[Switch] Free-1943: The Battle of Midway (+Ghosts n Goblins til 25 Feb) via Capcom Arcade Stadium - Nintendo eShop

1240

Apparently this can be downloaded for free via the Switch console. It is a dashboard that comes with 1943 (free forever) and Ghosts n Goblins (which is free until 25 February 2021).

Link on the shop does not work yet but it can be downloaded fine from the console.
A UK account might be required but I am sure it will also be launched on the AU store later today: https://www.theaureview.com/games/every-announcement-from-to…

  • The Last one:

The full complete pack is $59.95.

    i kind of like this.

    captain commando !!!
I used to spend hours after high school playing this at Time Zone or Galaxy world !

Give me a physical copy and I'll buy it !

  • +1

This is great then I remember I already have these on MAME.

I get the same feeling every time someone brings up buying a tabletop machine, I want one, but I already have the game.

Ghosts and Goblins was a fun game but so ridiculously hard I suspect it was never actually tested by anyone at CapCom before its release.

    • +3

It was originally made as an arcade machine hungry for coins. I suspect that Capcom knew exactly how hard it was.

      • My inner cynic wants to agree but if software companies adopted this as a policy, the industry would no longer exist.

    • Well there is a new Ghosts n Goblins coming out on Switch on the 27th Feb :-) comments on the youtube vids seem to be, "yay now I can keep failing at getting past the first level"

Loving this! Apparently it’s coming to PlayStation Network, Xbox and PC as well. https://www.gematsu.com/2021/02/capcom-arcade-stadium-coming…

  • Anyone know if there will be a physical release?

I was watching the Nintendo Direct this morning and as soon as they announced the free 1943, I was thinking betcha someone would post this on ozbargain…

  • Well, I'm officially old, it's too tiny on the switch screen for me :D

    • If only the switch was capable of switching between portable and a big screen :P

Unless you have a lite… of course…. hahaha

  • +1

Anyone know how to insert the coin to start a game?

    • +1

      press right thumb stick

  • Nothing beats old videogame box art. Garish af!

  • God, there's a lot of my youth wrapped up in those first 2 bundles.

Tempted to get it, but I suspect they will not have aged well. My memories will be much better than the actual games these days, I think… :(

  • Love 1943! One of the best classic shoot'em ups.

  • I just downloaded it for free Ghosts n Goblins, which I'm sure has nothing to do with Ghosts n Goblins Ressurection which is out next week on the switch :-)

    • Man, I loved Ghosts n Goblins when I was a kid (used to play the arcade version, then later on the C64). It seems to get mostly forgotten these days in favour of Ghouls n Ghosts, though.

      • Did you beat it?

        • Nobody ever beat Ghosts n Goblins :P

          Not without cheats, anyway :P

          • @AngusD: I have seen it done. Incredible as it was but I guess at that time games were so expensive the few games people had and could afford were played to death which made them really skilled and good at them.
I came close once too but then unfortunately lost the flow towards the end. :-(

  • I like the freebies and its a fun little distraction, but I dont see myself playing this for more than an hour.

  • I just tried Ghosts n Goblins — a game I love and know very well — and the input latency is pretty awful. Poor emulation.

    • Did you try it with the black screen borders / no filters? Apparently that helps but doesn't eliminate some of the lag.

      • Yep. I did that before I started playing and that's the only way I tried.
