I wouldn't touch these things, they've switched out the NAND using slower and poorer quality ones.. not once, but TWICE now - making them way slower and less reliable versus the early reviews you might read.

    Don't support ADATA.

    • Oh really? I did not know that! How long has this been the case? I have only heard good things about these drives. I chose this drive over the WD SN750 because of the better reviews, they were essentially the same price. Looks like I will be returning this when it arrives.

Yeah i had bought an adata then read the reviews of bait n switch.. pretty bad. Cancelled order immediately. Wouldnt trust these guys at all. Im going wd or samsung now.

Im negging the deal, so others dont buy. Nothing personal OP.

It's a shame they did it, because the pre revision SX8200 PRO was a great buy, mine has been rock solid and performs exactly as expected (as it should with the EN controller and Intel flash). But knowing they are a company that will just change the hardware without changing the advertised specs or even announce a revision publicly is behaviour that just should not be supported.

@witheredcouch: Also to be fair people praise WD for being such a good company but they essentially did the same thing with their Red NAS HDD Drives. Anyone who is into mass data storage will tell you the same thing. They changed their CMR drives for SMR below 8tb (i think?) without telling anyone they did it. SMR reduces performance significantly with extended read/writes which is exactly what NAS drives are made for.

          • @witheredcouch: same here got mine ages ago and it's fantastic.

        • Kicking myself I did buy the sn750 now, it was around $185 (or less) on the weekend. I ordered this for around $181ish, thankfully I just checked and it hasn't shipped so was able to cancel. Now just need to wait for the sn750 to some back down in price, its at around $200 at the moment.

        • Not a problem on the neg. I had no idea things had changed regarding this drive. I will keep the post active to increase the awareness :-)

Yeah, bad company with bad consumer practices.

Here is a nice article that explain the changes

they are swap out the rams for slower ram and also swapped out the controller for a slower controller as well..

  • Yeah, I have a 2TB one and am lucky to have the original controller. Have been very happy with the drive, but don't really want to support ADATA's poor consumer practices in just switching out the internals and not telling anyone, pretending it is still the same device. It's a shame as I probably would have bought another otherwise.

I stopped buying them awhile now. Annoying thing was I had 4 original 2tb ones but had to claim warranty on one of them. Was given one of the latest inferior drives!!!
