  • Does anyone know what the repayment terms for the phone are/might be?

Just trying to figure out if this is a worthwhile deal vs signing up with Telstra direct on their $115 180gb plan (discounted to $65) and paying back the phone monthly.

    • $99 per month or $89 with $10 credit

      • +1

Any chance you can elaborate if the $10 credit? Thanks

      • $10 per month credit doesn't currently apply to the $99 pm plan (only $69pm plan).

  • S21 is best for money among the three to be honest, while the glass back is nice it is not as durable as the plastic back on S21 too

    • Depends what you're coming from and what you want.

If you've got an S20 the S21 isn't a big upgrade. If you were to go to a S21 Ultra though it's a massive upgrade.

  • So how much is the out of pocket cost to get the s21 ultra ? If you cancel the plan, I see people are selling the s21 ultra 256gb on Facebook for around $1400 so will see if it’s worth to sign up the plan.

    • see below, maybe you can confirm the calculation?

    • Those are likely Telstra/Samsung employees that could buy them for half price.

  • ok, so it looks ETC is $599 + $500 Voucher Fee based on updated TC and batrarobin.

But what bout changing the plan from the $99 to the $49? I don't mind keeping it if I can change it to the $49/month.

New TC has: "If you cancel, recontract or move to an ineligible plan then you will need to pay a Voucher Reimbursement" - so I assume that I can't. Anyone has experience with this?

    • +1

ETC is $594, the $599 is upfront payment

      $599 upfront + $594 ETC + $500 voucher fee = $1,693 for ultra if you cancel on day 1

      • yea that has been confirmed if you cancel, but what about downgrading from $99 to $49 plan?

        • In the past, downgrading plan is considered cancelling. Upgrade is not.

          • @CodeXD: i asked to 'upgrade' from JB plan to Telstra XL plan (180GB with $50 off pm), the chat agent refused and said its not an upgrade but 'change' from JB to Telstra, so no, at least based on my experience

          • @CodeXD: in the past, they do anything we asked for, changed from fixed plan to post paid no locking contract no penalty fee. go figure. this is the biggest telco in australia..

        • +1

whether you upgrade or downgrade, any change of Plan will attract that $500 voucher fee.

          • @batrarobin: ok thanks for the clarification everyone. I have just seen in the past with my friends that they were able to do this, but they mist be closing the loophole

        • I have no recent experience but yes this used to be possible “upgrading” the $65 plan to a $45 at JB.

  • have anyone recently canceled with updated ETC and did you have to pay $500 voucher fee?

    • read from page 1

      • yes, only 1 stated case, hence the question

  • +1

Called JB Nunawading…was told ETC is pro-rated cost of termination fee of $595 plus pro-rated cost of handset…..so it is not pro-rated ($595+$500 voucher)…
Will try calling a different JB to see if they come up with the same ETC…

    • huh? you said pro rated then not pro rated

      • There were few comments that the ETC is pro-rated $595 plus $500 gift voucher…
But Nunawading JB advised it is pro-rated $595 plus pro-rated handset (Guess S21 in JB is $1200 or something) which will be $595 plus $1200 minus the pro-rated cost….

    • keep us updated please

  • Damn if this is true about the 500 fee

That means possibly the end of good jbhifi deals… 😥😥😥

    • This deal is still a pretty damn good deal though if you are in need of a plan or don't mind signing up to a 12 month plan.

    • +1

it is still good deal, just stops people from ETC for short and it is fair anyway

  • Is anyone aware if the Samsung edu store accepts zip pay as payment?

  • Guys need advice. I have an s20+ with a crack in the corner of the screen. It's been my daily for two years. Is it worth upgrading to the s21?

    • I don't think a s20+ has even been out that long…

    • 2 years? Phone came out less than a year ago lol

    • See how much your phone worth trade-in, because your screen is broken, its not worth much but Vodafone is having trade in bonus credit of $500.

  • Can a boost mobile customer get this?

    • Can't port your number from Boost in, but can get a new number to sign up.

  • +1

so the jig is up, they consider the handset discount 'a voucher' even if no voucher is mentioned in the offer, then charge u 500 fee?

    that's the deal right?

    • The $500 gift card is mentioned in the middle of the page where the banner is, in $99 plan details.

      • different deal, a voucher is one u can spend on anything at jb, this doesnt mention a voucher at all on the actual s21 deal banner

        • yeah thats what i was confused too at the beginning. but lets agree they call both as voucher. you know what it means anyway

  • Hey All,
We are a small business and have telstra small business account. Currently looking to get 3 new mobile connections. Can we take advantage of this deal?

    TIA :)

    • +1

      New port-in/ customers only.

    • +1

Not for business. These JB plans are only for consumers.

  • has anyone taken a new service recently and then moved their other out of contract telstra number to that service? avoids me having to port out and port back in (and possibly waiting 30+ days)

  • anyone know if tgg has the same cancellation terms as JB, as they have the same deal going: s21, s21+, s21 ultra

  • $99/month and no international calls. huh…

  • Can anyone please confirm - does any of these models come with dual physical sim, and not 1x physical and 1x e-sim? TIA

    • -3

let me call JBHIFI for you….

    • +2

      1 eSIM and 1 physical

  • Is $10 port in credit available on this?

  • Hmmm I am a bit worry, for s21 base model even it is $0 upfront we may need to pay back $500 voucher if cancelling. I mean when they scan this in counter they will apply something to make it zero. That could be what they call voucher. Maximum is 500.

    Very risky

    • +1

It is only risky if you're planning to do a dodgy and cancel. Otherwise, you're pretty much paying for the phone and get free $99 plan with telstra. Even better if you can get $89

  • +1

is optus matching the offer with only the $65 plan at HN. Saw it in the unpublished deal. anyone have details?

    • HN deal for a limited tome only I think, best to ask HN store nearby you

    • +1

Looks like it's this one but it's 24 months instead of 12
      https://www.harveynorman.com.au/samsung-galaxy-s21

      • Even with 24 months this looks a better deal to me. Not for instant cancellation but for actually using the plan. Seems more in line with old plans they did years ago with free phone

  • +1

Does this potentially mean free phone and free cancellation?

    https://www.gizmodo.com.au/2021/02/telstra-is-scrapping-its-…

    • I heard from the customer rep when signing phone back in December that Telstra is moving to subscription model, similar to Netflix scheme.

    • no, it means Telstra makes sure you have to use direct debit aka you cannot stop them from charging exorbitant amount until it happens, then you can complain and beg for money back :)

  • Is the S21 Ultra the best value one here? I'm considering., from a Pixel 2 XL

Are people staying on their $99 plan? I think I pay around $45 for Vodafone with no phone currently.

    $599-or-$699 for S21U 128-256GB + $1200 aka $99 PM
That;s $1800????? Or is there a $500 voucher on top, so it ends up being $1200?

  • +2

I was in store today to get S21.
Can confirm if you want to get S21 256GB, you need to pay upfront $99.
Another thing is $10 discount cannot apply for this deal.

    • If you bought it, can you confirm that the $500 gift card appears in the invoice/receipt?

      • +1

it will…. remember the phone price is always higher (at $xxxx). if you pay less then they need to deduct that to make it zero (for $0 upfront for example).

      • +1

They generate the gift card of the phone value and that gift card makes outstanding balance to 0. For example, RRP is $1249 then they'll generate the gift card of $1249.

  • Does anyone know if we are stuck with the shitty Exynos or will we get SD. Checked Samsungs website and they no longer list it

  • Does anybody if this plan allows for esim?

I'm thinking to ditch by NBN and move to the 150gb plan and use the extra sim slot when I need extra data from another provider on a prepaid sim plan.

    • as long as it is post-paid, so yes, you can always ask Telstra for an eSIM (given your phone supports it, S21 series do)

  • Any usb c headphone or usb c to 3.5 mmdongle recommendations?

  • Why can't boost customer get in on the action? Now I'll be heading to optus for 12-24/month and they miss out.

  • +1

    TGG T&C is quite interesting…

    • Once connection has been completed the customer is eligible to purchase one and only
one of the Samsung iPhones in the table below.

How I wish I could buy 2 of those rare Samsung iPhones…

    • I wonder if the T&C are written by professional lawyers at all..

  • Has anyone started a new number and merged with the old number through using telstra online chat? To gain the new service and potentially bypass the port in from telstra issue?

    • i asked this yesterday and there was no response.
i asked in telstra chat today and they suggested it could be done. its always a risk though

  • Is there any info on ozbargain about how to port out then port in
I am currently on a Telstra BYO Sim only plan, But want to get on this

  • Went to JB HiFi (somewhere in SA) today to test my luck, clearly drew the short stick. The agent was less than useless, for example, he did know what an ETC was, then claimed to understand it perfectly, but could not find it in the JB HiFI details, and then preceded to repeat over and over that the minimum charge was $1188. I kept mentioning that was over 12 months not part of the ETC element. Anyhow he and his colleague made me doubtful enough not to proceed (even with all that has been written here and in the past). The long and the short of the story was that cancelling soon after purchasing could work, but then it may not. Also, something about the 'fine print you never know'. Maybe I try my luck with another JB HiFI tomorrow. One interesting point (at least for me) was that I did not need to port (I am already with Telstra). I will just be given a new number (this may have already been explained but I have just skimmed this node). I cancel this and then continue to use my old number.

    • You got lemon just go other jb

  • Don't get me wrong but this deal is worthless now after the jb added that 500 fee for random voucher cancellation namely

    • You are not wrong….

    • @USER DC you mean this deal is worthless now that people cant scam a free phone from the loophole, in reality this deal is pretty bloody good if you want the latest s21 range, it's roughly 10-20% below rrp & you're getting a 150gb 12m sim

      • Especially when your company paying for this 12 plan

      • The thing is that most people don't need 150 gb, i certainly dont need 150 gb per month, may be 2 -3.5 gb/month. most people only use like 5-10 gb /month especially those that only use phone mainly at home (work, home wifi) outdoor only data use which depends on your lifestyle.

and to be paying additional 100 $ /month for a plan that you aren't even gonna use that is total wastage of money.

the thing is that jb hifi website still has no mention of voucher cancellation fee.

but a few people have been stuck with that 500 dollar charge, so i am not really risking it.

        • i also went to telstra store they said they dont know how much it will cost to cancel the plan, instead suggesting that the minimum cost is 1188 (12 month contract) trying to force people to pay full either way if they have signed up or not regardless.

it's an industry wide problem no one mentions what the cost of leaving would be, e.g. gyms etc.

        • +1

User DC spot on. Many can't afford $2300 phone but thinking ok $100 a month is fine, bargain, cheap even I don't need that much data who cares I can afford 100. Just short term thinking, lifestyle goes first, Second would be Centrelink, then saving.

      • it was never free

people still had to pay the etc charges.

        which is technically phone cost.

if you haven't used service for more than a day you really justify saying that Etc of tesltra plan justifies 594 $ for 1 day of use ???

i would say that's more of a phone cost than service cost for 1 day

        • +1

most got it free or had to pay the etc, either way it was substantially cheaper then buying outright due to a loophole, these phones are $1400-$1800 rrp why would you expect to pay only $594 etc, , you said you asked how much to cancel the contract, only reason you would ask that is cause you trying to use the loophole, why would it be any cheaper then paying out the device, nobody at JB is forcing you to cancel after 1 day lol, simple telstra stuffed up in the past & now fixed it, whether you need 150gb or not the sim ends up free in this deal if you were going to buy s21 outright anyway, it's a win win with this deal unless you're trying the loophole which doesn't work anymore

  • +1

Can anyone confirm if they've cancelled and been charged the $500 JB voucher fee?

    • +1

      read page 1&2 comments

      • Thanks. Just re-read it. That throws a spanner in the works :/

  • I'm assuming you could use a gift card to bring the cost down on this? My wife needs a new phone but not keen on $99pm.
My last JB plan is due to expire in early April. I want to port out of Telstra then port back in later to get a gift card. Could we wait until then and use my gift card on a deal like this to make it cheaper?
