i really like the Coles stuffing flavour, how's RR?

  • For TA to say it taste much better than Coles and woollies, you got give it a go :)

    Cheers!

    • How do they compare in size?

      • +1

Not sure about the size but generally speaking it should be a bit smaller than those woollies but as always it matter of luck I suppose :)

  • +3

Or you could wait till 8pm and get a half priced roast from Woolies. Which taste fine

    • +7

I got in to stores after 8 all the time, mine are never discounted

      • Really? The two closest me both do

    • +5

Yeah I remember my local Coles used to discount it to $3 for a whole chicken after 8pm but then the staff there “reserved” all for themselves….

    • +2

they're ok but can be a bit dry when they hit half price.

    • +2

Local Woolies takes literally a dollar off when it's like 6 hours old, no thanks.

    • maybe be a little on the grey side but wont kill ya :-)

    • The policy according to one employee I asked is that anything they roast has to be discounted 50% after its been sitting there for 3 or 4 hours.

So just check the oven time on the bag. If its past that time, take it to the manager and ask for it.

  • Ahhhh Red Rooster. Brown on the outside, pink in the middle.

Got a bonus Red Rooster story.

Ordered some Red Rooster for the fam. Would have been a big old roast dinner type arrangement with peas and corn and mash etc.

At the counter I was surprised if they asked if I (alone) want this to go or dine-in?

DINE-IN? On my own? Is that the kind of clientele this place is attracting? A roast dinner family meal for 1?

Anyway, i've put it on the bucket list.

      • +2

Maybe they thought the fam was getting out of the car? Or maybe they're just pre-programmed to ask that question. After a while, they just punch the order in without thinking.

        • +3

I asked and she said that some people actually do eat it by themselves.

    • +3

"Brown on the outside, pink in the middle."

There's a joke there but i'm not going anywhere near it .

      • Damn Casper!

  • Foiled by the Red Rooster line :(

  • +2

Smaller in size compared with ones from Woolies and Coles IMO but yeah I like it more though.

    • how's the filling/stuffing compared to Coles

  • +1

Costco aint too bad for the price as well

  • +5

    Is this a boot sale?

    • That was pre covid Australia.

      • Ok so thanks to covid places aren't transporting cooked chickens in boots of cars anymore, whoohoo!

  • +3

I had Red Rooster for the first time in like 8 years. Good lord is has gone down hill…

i had soggy corn.. i mean how is that possible
    Dry and salty chicken
    Pineapple was stale

  • Thanks OP, is phone fine?

    • it's not a voucher. are you proposing to barter your phone for a roast chicken?

    • +1

If it's not, I usually find that a restart/reboot fixes the issue.

  • Yeah red rooster stays roasted and taste better not like that soggy piece of $hit sitting in that bag for hours on end in the supermarket.

    • what about Costco chicken?

  • +4

Dinner sorted tonight. One each for the Mrs and me. Lashings of gravy, peas and corn, banana fritters, and the pièce de résistance, pineapple fried rice. Yummo.

    Thanks OP.

  • Same every day at Coles Woolies etc

    • RR chickens taste better IMO

  • Good deal but Red Rooster isn't anywhere near me :(
    Damn the Red Rooster line!

    • +1

Do you live within the Chargrill Charlie's line? (Obviously more expensive chooks though.)

      • LOL nope not that either! That sucks :/

  • Not a negative comment, But i experienced dry and bland chicken twice at Redrooster, am i in bad luck?

    • Red Rooster is not for you.

  • Dinner sorted 1 Chook and a loaded Chip's and large peas.
There might be a little leftovers for tomorrow

    • It's Ozb, if there's not… we understand. :)

  • Lunch snack sorted!

  • so for $24.79 you can get two chickens and a coke… roasted, not fried.

  • Totally depends on the franchise with taste and quality. Gotta pick the good ones ;)

  • Coles and Woolies have Lilydale/Macro free range roast chickens for $10/$11. Is this also free range?

  • +3

Got one, asked them to cut into quarters - lunch for most of the week sorted.

  • Does this need to be preordered or via the app or something? I havent ever actually ordered from red rooster store (in store before, only delivery or airport etc). How does the roast chicken work, is it pre made and you walk in and order it like kfc?

  • My nearby Red Rooster sells whole chicken, chips and large gravy at 15aud.

  • Local charcoal chicken much tastier, otherwise coles or woolworths is the same

  • Back in the day, when I used to stuff the chickens at Red Rooster first thing in the morning my fingers used to go numb. Worst part of my shift.

    • I worked at a regional chicken shop as a teenager. Nothing like getting the (mostly unfrozen, but still really bloody cold) raw chooks in the morning and having to pull out the necks and loose fat deposits before filling it with stuffing.

  • A little off topic….

Does anyone know how to delete your account on the red rooster app or website ?

The same question applies for Oporto and 711 app.

I can easily do it on Maccas , Uber eats and doordash

  • Is this Kosher?

  • +1

thank you. apparently this is every Monday and Tuesday, got one and it's not bad. the chicken falls apart and is very Jucy

  • +1

Has anyone found the chicken getting smaller in recent years?

  • -1

Just tried one, normal price is 12.95.
    If there is a red roster near you, you can give it a try;
    Otherwise doesn’t worth it.

  • Interesting, I got one last night. Tastes nice fresh / warm. I was a bit surprised at how small it was though,I had remembered it and pictures being a lot bigger in the past. Woolies and Coles chicken i think is a lot bigger unless they have gotten small too. But i think red rooster tastes better. I had thought it may come cut up but it came whole, i guess as someone reported on here ,you need to request for it to be cut up.

    Thanks, TA.

  • Wish to God the franchisor of Kenny Rogers Roasters Restaurant would franchise theirs here and there would be some interested franchisees. 🍴

That would be really sumthin'. Just wishfully thinking though.

    • i remember going into one in Vic in the early 2000's. It was completely empty during the lunch hour.

  • Is it expired? My local (ormond vic) said it wasn't running anymore
