It is weird, I couldn't believe what I was reading when I was researching tablets. It's what led me to buy a second hand Samsung tab s5e. It's not just Netflix though, it includes almost all streaming services.
It's called widevine, and unless the device has been certified (which allegedly can be done without charge or royalties paid to the company), they don't get a certificate included on the device that allows the device to decode HD streams.
I have this and it's great because of the excellent speakers and popout stand. Perfect for watching stuff when sitting and eating.
Anyone know if the Jan 2021 update fixed the HD netflix / amazon prime. If it was fixed I'd buy this in a snap, but not supporting hd when its capable is a shocker.
Not sure if this is the right place, but there is a hd amazon prime modded apk if anyone is interested.
This vs. S6 lite?
Personally I would buy the Lenovo Chromebook Duet, and this second.
Intredasting. I would have thought the s6 lite would have been better than those.
Does the chrombook run android apps as normal? Is there any advantages it have over regular android?
I have both. Duet comes with a nice keyboard with excellent quality. S6 Lite you can buy the official one, but it connects via Bluetooth rather than a proprietary connector like S6, and quality is only okay.
Duet will run most of the Android apps normal.
One other advantage is that if you use Chrome on PC, or use Google apps such as Google Docs or Sheets, Duet will give you something very close to a desktop or laptop experience.
I would say S6 Lite feels a bit more snappy, and is great for media consumption if that's your main purpose.
The ChromeOS Duet enables you to access work accounts via a browser, when on an Android tablet it would force you to use the app.
Haven't been keeping up with google assistant stuff. But does this have an app drawer? Or does it have the simplified google assistant style software
This or tab a7 just to mainly use for browsing and basic media viewing?
Tab s6 lite is better.
a7 only has 2gb of ram which is shite
Tab A7 2020 has 3GB ram and running Snapdragon 662 which is better than this tablet cpu.
Officework have Tab A7 on sale now for $297 for 32GB Wi-Fi version.was about to ask the same question and meaty has answered, thanks
For watching video I'd go for the Tab A7 given this one's limitations with Netflix and possibly other services with certain DRM requirements. The A7 is also pretty strong in the speaker department, even if this one may have it beat in that respect (hard to know without a direct comparison). Also has 3GB RAM, contrary to the above comment.
Fine for browsing, though if that were the primary use I'd rather a 16:10 or 4:3 tablet.
I thought officeworks was cheaper?

This unit is good for watching online movie. The speaker is main reason for that. It's been upgrade to Android 10 in the 1/1 and it's good. One of the main drawback is the front camera, it's terrible. The rest is ok.
Got this a few weeks ago for my 8yo son (used Suncorp gift cards to get it for $285). Got the Duet Chromebook for my 10yo daughter. Correct choices.
My son is perfectly happy with watching his TV shows on it, playing his games, using face recognition and talking with it… "OK Google". This is a decent tablet and (IMO) better value than the similar Samsung and Apple options
The Duet is "better"- especially at roughly the same price on Amazon (and including cover and keyboard) - but it's not as simple as a tablet. My daughter was annoyed with MS's attitude towards Chromebooks meaning no Minecraft without Linux (which I had to do). Minecraft isn't perfect on a Chromebook, but she will get more use out of the Duet - keyboard, Lenovo USI pen (was $40 on Edu store), more power, regular updates for much longer than Android.
Good point. Chromebooks (and to a lesser extent iPads) tend to have a much longer lifespan than Android ones. At least in the past.
Can the chrome book run Netflix at hd playback and Disney Plus at hd playback.
Same price everywhere (HN, GG, OW, bing lee).
Chipset looks a shocker and according to support sites the Netflix app doesn’t support HD playback, only SD (which is a bit weird but apparently very common. Netflix have to certify a device to allow HD playback). Besides that looks pretty good.
