estimated delivery late Feb early March
Seems upgradable to 16gb too, nice.
Why Dell Takes a long time to deliver.
In my experience they are often under promising and over delivering. And they also seem to be made to order.
I thought only i had this with them. My s2721q took one and a half month
It's very hit and miss. I find custom order as still quick (1 week), premade 48hrs, but promoted like 1-3 weeks. My work orders alot off them and we were warned about this
good for a school laptop?
Maybe a bit big. 14" might be better.
Also it has a heating issue, though manageable.
They keep putting this laptop on discount :/ I wonder why.
I got it during black friday (worked out cheaper as I got a coupon but you could use cashback if you didn't have coupon for about $540) and called them about the heating issue.
They pretty much just made the CPU go from 100%->99% which helped. It's still kind of there though so I suggest a laptop stand.
AMD had an official power management profile for their processors a few years back that you could download from their site under the processors support section. Don't know if that would do much different to the 99% trick, but you can still revert to that if you want.
Right click your battery icon, select 'Power Options'. 'Change Plan Settings' on your selected plan, 'Change advanced power settings'.
Expand 'Processor power management' then set 'Maximum processor state' to 99%
How is this compared to ThinkPad E15 Gen 2 which is about $300 dearer on the Lenovo student store
from my research this Dell have 220nits screen and E15 with 250nits ? and Thinkpad has better keyboard
would only be using it for excel and chrome so id hate to spend unnecessary money
Waiting on a response to this room looking at the flex on Amazon too
currently using it. No heating issue and working perfectly.
only issue for me is can't get to work VMWare MACOS on it. Rest all good.
But I have added all available warranties on to it for long lasting as I have ram upgrade, battery upgrade, storage upgrade as well for bit long-term office use.
From my experience at work the Thinkpad range are a much sturdier (particularly keyboards) than the cheaper Dell range. Have far less issues with the Thinkpads as a whole.
Some good deals in the Lenove student store at the moment.
Is this the best laptop you can get for around this price point ? I could extend my budget $800 if it's worth it
I did a lot of searching for a whole day, ebay. amazon, dell store, lenovo store) (with student discounts enabled), major refurbished resellers, used places like gumtree. This is the best laptop you can buy get at this price imo.
Looks like a good deal but I swore off dell since the last laptop I brought stopped working way too soon. The specs are excellent but I would pay a little extra to have a more sturdy body so it doesn't just fall apart.
like what alternative?
Can i add another 8gb ram on this laptop in the future or no?
yes you can, and another ssd/hdd
Is it worth upgrading it to 32gb or it wont make much d8fference?
Unless you're doing some specialized computing work, 32 GB is overkill and won't make a difference. The stock 8 GB should be fine for a normal user (even if you want to open a few chrome tabs). If you find that it isn't sufficient, you can always add on more memory. That seems to be the logical choice, instead of buying the extra memory now when you don't know you'll even need it. Here's a good video on memory requirements: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OT-qAQLGkGo
HUAWEI Matebook D 15, 15.6 Inch 87% Screen-To-Body Ratio, AMD Ryzen 5 3500U, 8GB+256GB
Thoughts on this for $859?
seems like roughly the same laptop for $300 more, havent looked into it too closely though
Yeh waiting for the Lenovo flex to come back in stock. Build of the Huawei is better but don't think 300 better
Received order today slightly different to spec's listed.
System Model: Inspiron 3505
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 3500U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx (8 CPUs), ~2.1GHz
Model: KBG40ZNS512G NVMe KIOXIA 512GB
Bigger drive, quicker than expected delivery. Not bad :)
your cpu is also faster
Likewise… Was just looking at the invoice a couple of days ago and noticed the different CPU and SSD.
According to Dell's site this model is worth $1099. Not a bad score for the mother in-law (who I bought it for).
Gone up in price since the last deals posted pre Christmas.
