What does "blue" mean in this description? Can't be cherries.

    • +8

Blue is is generally understood to be cherry-blue-style clicky switches.

    • +3

Cherry Blue switches. They are heavier to actuate and make clickety clackety sounds when typing. Blues are good for typing, red is good for gaming, brown is in between.
      https://youtu.be/PXCKHoiNu1o?t=15
There are more switches, but blue, brown and red are your main 3

      • +9

I woulnd't consider cherry's king anymore though, just mainstream, Panda's, Glorious and newer Kaihl's are so damn good

        • Are they really? 🤔

          • +4

@donkeydoc: I have a few exxy keyboards (Corsair etc) and recently bought a couple of cheapies from amazon for $60 odd dollars.

They were amazing, the corsair is a bit nicer, but not $150 nicer.

The cheap mechs have come a long way.

            • +2

@Franc-T: Which ones if you don't mind sharing?
I'm looking at redragon, e-element at the lower end or to go a bit higher for a ikbc/durgod

              • +4

@Blackfyre: If you can stretch it, I would say splash out on a durgod. I'd also recommend Leopolds at Mwave starting from $150, depending on how small you want to go, although the full-size ones are only $10 more if you need the numpad. Silent Red is acceptable for office use if you're looking at switches.

                • @nsta8487: @nsta8487 - Are the Leopold's decent for gaming? I'm considering the FC980M

                  • +1

@Slurped: I don't know sorry. I use a Leopold FC900R in the office and a Ducky One 2 TKL at home. I would say it depends more on what switches you get than the actual board, although overall the Leopold is heavier and feels a bit stiffer.
It does suck a lot when looking for a new keyboard that there aren't places (that I know of at least) where you can go and try any brands that aren't the Corsair or Logitechs in JB.

Kaihl switches are only decent with a fair amount of lubing but they are NOT on par with genuine cherry mx by any measure.

    • +6

Blue equals loud clickity clacks. May piss of others working or living near you

      • +1

Can't be more clicky than my Kaihl Bronze. They click both on the way down and up.

        • +10

          I replaced my keys with 104 mini-staplers. I win.

    • +1

I tried the blue switches and they're pretty bad

  • +36

im getting this for work just to annoy people :)

    • +7

I've been constantly told to stop typing on my brown switches when having a discord meeting. Can't imagine the destruction a blue one can do

      • +5

It's super annoying listening to somebody type with blue keys.

      • +7

RTX Voice will take care of that for you!

        • +3

Just checked out. Nice stuff to have indeed!

          • +4

@xyzzyxyzzy: You can also run RTX Voice on incoming audio to cancel out noise from other people. It's fantastic for online meetings!

      • +2

rtx voice - been using it to mute clickity clack during meetings, or the newer version nvidia broadcast if you have a rtx card.

else google meet has a decent noise cancellation built into the settings too.

      • +1

Wait 'til you EXPERIENCE ALL CAPS ON A MODEL M

    • +16

my colleagues waited until the Christmas party before making their opinion of my brown switches very clear - with the noisy typer "ensuring everyone knows you're very busy doing all the important things" award.

      • +3

I have o-rings on my Browns. I asked colleagues and they didn't seem to mind when I asked.

        • +2

Wait till you hear what they're saying around the office water cooler…

          • +6

@eug: If someone tells you they don't mind when you ask, then they don't get to be annoyed behind your back.

    • +1

Lol someone at work got me this for KK gift….everyone hates me now but my productivity is way up

      • +1

Why would it increase productivity? You're just enjoying typing more?

    • +2

I've seriously been considering that for a while, finally one at the right price for it hahah

  • +7
    • +4

wow. Pretty noisy. I might get this for work too.

    • +2

If that key click sound dont want you to beat your coworker with that very keyboard then you are deaf.

    • +1

      Bro that's Casula. lolol

      • +2

Yeah. Surprised he didn't get shanked on the way in.

    • Wow @ that Fixed rainbow shit backlighting. Seems like a real price of junk tbh

    • +1

900k views on shopping for a kb. Who is this guy?

  • This or Kogan?

    • +3

According to the comprehensive review video posted above. Kogan.

    • +7

      Both will be regret

    • I had two Kogan one fail in the space of a few months. Gave up getting replacements on the second.

      • +3

I've been using a $39 brown RGB kogan one for about a year now - no problems.

If I'd known I was going to be working from home for a year then I'd have gotten my better keyboard from the office, but the kogan is doing fine at home

    • I wore a Kogan (with browns switches) out in just under three months. I'm used to a Model M so I guess I'm heavy handed.

      • I have an early Kogan with actual Cherry MX Brown switches. It has been 4.5 years and still going strong. I'm a heavy typist too.

  • +6

I don't think you should get this.. Save your money and buy a decent mech keyboard for $60

    A cheap decent one like
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Redragon-KUMARA-Backlit-Mechanical…

    • My cheapies haven't lasted a year without having issues

    • This is much better value than $25 for the Kmart keyboard!

    • +3

My 6 year old high end mech keyboard just died after 6 years (actually only one key, but upgrade anyway). Good bang for buck IMHO.

Also saw cheap mech keyboard in reject shop if anyone still wants to go cheap.

      • Also saw cheap mech keyboard in reject shop if anyone still wants to go cheap.

… now that’s a sentence I never expected to see.

    • +3

That's a 60% TKL plank though, it's only about half the keyboard of the full sized Kmart one.

      This is a closer comparison:

Is there a version with a num pad? My wife needs…

  • +4

Wouldn't recommend. This missus has this and within weeks it developed phantom/duplicate keypresses pretty frequently. It's pretty junky. Just spend the dosh and get something branded.

  • +8

My 2yo loved it. He's 3 now and says he wants a second one….

  • Off-brand mechanical thing? Pass

  • Tempted but I love shit stiring everyone with my labelless keyboard.
I just use it for gaming on my gaming PC so its not hard to get the right keys.

    • +3

I used to mix up all the keys on my work keyboard. It was amusing watching people trying to type on it. :)

      • Then casually say "oh I see you can't touch type… shame"

  • You can buy this keyboard as a weapon for self-defense and call yourself a keyboard warrior.

    • Probably not cause this keyboard will break very easily.

  • +1

This is the shitty one. The $39 one is the one you want.

    • +1

The major difference in function appears to be that the $39 one has a context menu key; well worth the extra cost for my usage.

  • I'd wait till the Kogan RGB mechanical keyboard drops back down to $30 again

  • +2

I am unsure if I am the only one who hates the clickity clack noise. I prefer the silent ones…

  • I got one of these……

They started to call me Upper Moon 1.5 after awhile……..(demon slayer fans will understand)

    • +1

      Who's "they"

The same people who started clapping I'm guessing

  • Bit off topic but has anyone tried this Kmart GAMING microphone?

    https://www.kmart.com.au/product/adjustable-gaming-microphon…

  • What's a good cordless keyboard?

  • How does this mechanical keyboard compared to the $100+ ones? I thinking of getting a mechanical keyboard for work

    • Spend a little bit extra and get a proper one. You might want to order a key sampler from ebay to test which type of key switch you like.

      • its for work so I don't want to spend too much money at all
