Nespresso Krups XN2003 from Amazon Italy: about $100 Delivered

Hi guys, I just ordered this Nespresso machine from Amazon Italy. Was inspired to search the European Amazon sites after the Spanish Nespresso deal. This is very much the entry level into Nespresso - no milk frother is included (I suggest getting the $20 milk frother from Aldi!).

It comes to around 76 euro with delivery included and tax removed (as you are exporting from the EU). This is around A$100 at current exchange rates.

All Nespresso machines produce exactly the same quality coffee. The more expensive machines have bells and whistles - e.g. automatic coffee levels, etc. So if you are after a basic machine that produces good quality coffee, this is the one to get.

Compared to the $80 Expressi machine, I think this is definitely the way to go. The Nespresso coffee pods are more expensive, but the quality is better.

From all reports, the Aldi milk frother works fine, so it is definitely much better value than the Nespresso Aerocino (which around $100). Some purists will scoff at these milk frothers and prefer steam-based frothing (I'm looking at you Skamp from Whirlpool), but I personally think these frothers produce great milk froth.

I waited until I got a shipping confirmation before posting this deal. Delivery is meant to be express, so hopefully it will arrive sometime this week. I will post again when it arrives.

According to reports from the Amazon Spain deal, Krups machines come with an international warranty, which is fantastic. The only thing you need to worry about is getting an Australian plug (voltages are the same).

EDIT: 2 year international warranty confirmed by booklet in box - provided by Krups Australia.

Anyone know where I can get a milk frother other than Aldi? I'm over in Perth where there is no Aldi unfortunately :(

    • If you don't mind the extra step you can heat the milk in the microwave and use a $2 battery operated frother from ikea. Works very well and is quicker too!

    • +2

pay me the cost + delivery fee and I'll send you one?

    • +1

Don't need a special milk frother - use a cheap french press, like this one.

I used to froth my milk with my Mokita's steam wand, but now I just microwave some milk in one of those, then pump the press a few times. I get better, thicker microfoam than with any other method I've tried. It works brilliantly :-)

  • Try eBay for the Aldi frother. Otherwise, there are other brands selling similar things - check the electrical section of department stores. They are more than $20 though…

  • I've been very curious about these machines, after trying a friends fully automatic Nespresso unit.

I'm wondering though, does the manual water sizing method produce inconsistent results? It'd be a waste to spend all that money on the machine and pods to have varying coffees when you use different mugs and cant gauge extraction size properly.

Has anyone got any thoughs/feedback on this?

    • De'longhi ESSENZA (a higher level than this one) has two water level controls, long cup and short cup. it is consistent. i drink everyday in the office.

    • i have an existing manual Nespresso machine and I'm very happy with it. The only issue is that you have to stand next to it when it's pouring coffee (20 seconds of your life you won't get to multitask with).

    • i believe DeLonghi is having a 50$ cashback at the moment, and you could get a pixie for around 225 after cashback.. thats got a milk frother aswell.

a friend of mine has this machine and after trying it a few times, the coffee seems very consistent. =)

good deal. but i reckon it is just bullshit about "The Nespresso coffee pods are more expensive, but the quality is better." what is next, something like "you get what you pay" again?

    • Um yes, you generally do get what you pay for. The difference in price isn't all quality (George Clooney needs to be paid), but quality is a big factor too.

      • Sara Lee released compatable pods for nespresso on Europe under their brand "Douwe Egberts", for about half the price of the nespresso pods. I think they're being sued by nespresso. I've had the Douwe Egberts coffee in different forms and it's not bad coffee.

I would say a very large portion to the cost of Nespresso pods is intellectual property rights…not the quality of the coffee.

By the way - great find by the OP!

Nespresso's monopoly ends very soon and understandably they are worried about it but there is nothing they can really do about it all but try.

The vast majority of its most important patents have expired and some of the last ones on its capsule expire next year.

What does that mean to consumers?

It means that there will be lots more competition and more choice. Manufacturers will be able to design and build machines that can use a nespresso capsule. It also means that others can start offering nespresso compatible capsules for helluva a lot less.
This means that the nespresso brand would be dragged into price wars and essentially become competitive (both on the machine and the capsules) which is not something nespresso wants (obviously) as most of its large profits come from supplying cheap ass coffee in capsules and overcharging horrendously for it.

So what can it do then?
They can buy the smaller alternative brands/pay them off OR try and sue them on some grounds. Its monopoly days though will be over.

The Nespresso pods are about 70c for 7g of coffee, IIRC? So $100/kg.
I'm sure you can buy some damned fine beans for half that rate. It will take a few kg of beans to pay for the grinder, so it depends how much you drink, and if you like making your own coffee.

  • I wonder it the Cruesset (I know I spelled that wrong) casseroles, etc are cheaper from France. I looked at the French Amazon site very briefly, but got tired of having to translate everything.

    • +1

Use Google Chrome and install the translator extension. Translates every page on the fly automatically.

  • How much are these locally?

Also delivery from amazon eu very fast. I bought somhing from amazon germany and it was delivered via dhl in 4 days and i could track it.

Is your delivery able to be tracked from italy?

    • I don't know if you can get them without the Aerocino here - with it, they are no less than $280 after cashback.

Status is "in shipping" so no tracking info yet.

  • Nice find, I just bought one though at the good guys. Just wondering where do you think the best place to buy the pods is from? I have bought some from the Nespresso site- but just had a look on the Amazon Italy site and they seem much cheaper there. Any good suggestions?

  • This looks good

  • +2

if it wasn't for the podded coffee bit I'd get this.
it's not just the expense of pods, i prefer path of least packaging with my daily consumption.

i suppose you could rig up some sort of reusable refillable pod or something.
but that's probably going too far.

    • +2

You can take the used pods into Nespresso and they recycle them.

  • Aldi Expressi machine is back on wednesday - there will be a line

    • -4

luck me. i sold my unopened expressi last monday and even made a little profit.

    • +1

So do we have to queue in the morning when the store are about to open to get one of this badboys ?

    • +1

My local still has leftovers from the first round?

      • +1

chatswood has some left, miranda too, hurstville had some too
        no milk frothers though

  • Do you have a link to the spanish deal you mention?

  • Thanks! Been waiting to get my hands on one of these and this is definitely a bargain!

  • +1

For anyone that cares ( I dont as I use the expressi from Aldi)

    http://www.kogan.com.au/shop/ez-press-coffee-machine-nespres…

Its a nespresso machine with a steam wand for frothing milk.

You could search around for coupon codes or paypal(cashback) deals and may be able to get it cheaper that way.

    • I've read bad reviews about this, so beware

    • +1

Let me guess, Kogan uses genuine Krups parts inside? :)

On a serious note, a friend of mine bought one a few weeks back, and hates it. The steam functionality is a whole lot of hot air.

      • -3

Not sure about you….but I thought that you kinda need hot air for it to be classified as steam.

        • +2

Nope, steam = 100% water in gaseous state. No air required.

        • @endotherm LOL..clearly I didn't mean it literally. I meant as in for the device to produce steam. I kinda thought all/if not most coffee machines with milk steamers had to produce a 'whole lot of hot air' to generate the steam for the milk. Guess I might be wrong.

      • +1

        Sony guts!

        • You don't mess with the Kogan! ;)

    • CNET didn't exactly give a glowing review of it

      http://www.cnet.com.au/kogan-ez-press-taste-test-339326287.h…

      • Quite unprofessional and not fair or impartial in the least bit.

Also was quite obvious that most of them didnt know what they were talking about and the testing methodology was flawed.

But 1 thing seems to be consistent and that is expect some coffee grains.

Personally, I wouldnt buy the Kogan when there are other options around and more to come in the new year.

  • +1

These would be of interest for netspresso owners.. reuseable pods to put your own coffee in.

So I can fill it with my favorite brew… Nescafe Blend 44 :)

Thanks for posting mjs, just bought one. My local Aldi (Brunswick) didn't have the frothers but they reckon they will have some in a few days and give me a call.

Out of curiosity, how did you find this deal?

    • +3

Since the Amazon Spain deal, I've been searching for a cheap Nespresso machine. Looked on amazon.de, amazon.es, amazon.fr and amazon.co.uk. Not all the machines are shipped to Australia - it's a case of trial and error.

My local Aldi said they don't think the frothers are coming in until next year!

    • Please let me know if you find any aldi milk frothers in melbourne coz i really wanna buy one as well. Thanks

  • +1

how does the international warranty work?

    • +1

I emailed Krups Australia and got the following reply :

"Krups international warranty is honoured in Australia.
Please note that if you do have an overseas model which should need to be replaced, then it will be replaced with the local Australian equivalent model.

I have attached a listing of service agents in Australia who will be able to assist."

Does anyone know if this comes with a 1 or 2 year warranty? Is it an international warranty?

      • 2 year international warranty confirmed by booklet in box

  • major price gouging on ebay for the Expressi milk frothers… what are you guys using as an alternative? Any good deals out there on the Aeroccino 3?

  • e bay has refillable podsto suit nespresso machines they work well and you can use your choice of coffee

    • Have u bought them? just curious, never thought of buying it cause the pods r not cheap. Do u have a link to the seller? cheers.

      • It depends if the model has the cartels in cylinder or not, see the following e-bay listing.

        http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/390357480364

I'm guessing this will be a post 2010 model and have the cartels, so these are the ones to buy. I've enquired a bout cheaper shipping, $41 is a rort!

  • Just ordered one, now to visit IKEA for a milk frother!

    • UPS shows it will arrive by COB Friday - that is pretty fast shipping

      • I ordered on Monday morning too. Amazing how many stops this package is making on its way here!

      • Mine is still in Germany… must be stopping over for xmas.

  • If anyone is still hunting around for one

I just picked up a milk frother from Robins (Ripoff) Kitchen on special for $8. Looks better and is better made than the ALDI equivalent.

    • is it the electric type (e.g. like the aldi one) where you just pour milk in and it does the rest?

  • Mine is showing arriving by COB tomorrow. Last update was that it left Frankfurt.

    • ah taking the scenic route is it? :-P

      • It's arrived! About to unbox.

        • Nice! Mine is still holidaying in Dubai after visiting Germany. Where did yours go after Dubai?

        • Just received it 5 days after ordering. It appears the Dubai to Melbourne leg is quite short. Quicker than shopping in Australia.

  • It went from Frankfurt to Sydney. 2 year international warranty confirmed!

  • i live in adelaide they don't have aldi milk frother
can anyone help me to get one and post to me?

  • mine is funny, kept going thru dubai melbourne dubai then melbourne lol

  • Refillable black coffee-duck pods for this machine. 3 for approx $17 AUD delivered.

    Anyone find a better price?

  • Why not just buy directly from Coffee Duck you get 4 for about $20 delivered. Just be careful as Nespresso changed the patent on the New Nespresso machine after October 2010.

Does anyone know if the Krups XN2003 has a smooth or grooved pod Cylinder ? The grooved cylinder will crush most of the generic pods to try and stop people from using their own coffee. The pods will also Jam in these new machines and very difficult to remove. You can not use the old empty generic Pods in new models like the Citz.

    • Thanks I've bought from them direct, the machine has a grooved pod cylinder so I bought the black pods. I'll post back on my experience after they arrive.

  • Spreets have a group buy on reusable pods today

  • Can anyone confirm how much delivery was for this item to Australia?
    or was it included?

    • It was 20 Euros flat fee so if you ordered 1 or a 6 it was the same fee.

  • Just circling back on the coffee duck black reusable pods, the arrived today and I've successfully used them on this machine. They work well.
