    Good deal!

  • My experience with Harbour ISP is a disaster. (in 2013, maybe they are better now).

    • Generally been good for me - support has been quick and helpful on the couple of occasions we've had downtime.

Do find their bundled modem to be pretty unstable though - typically need to reboot it once a week or so

Also find like someone else mentioned further down the spread that I often get 1.2-1.5x the advertised speed, so no complaints there.

    • besides seeing a drop in service once a month for about 3 hours (regularly) between the hours of 4am-9am

their service has been overall good for me .. but I'm on their 67.00 a month plan so I don't know the guaranteed speeds.

There is still $79 activation fee?
Also + $10 for static IP
    Also + $15 postage fee

    • +1

      jeez…. maybe not then

    • you're forgetting the
+2.50 if paying manually .. don't know what it is actually called.

I don't want them to take out via bank account each month automatically and pay it after I've reviewed the bill.

why not skip the static and sign up for a free dynamic one (like DynDNS)?

Cannot vouch for Harbour, but got the equivalent (now expired) deal on Uniti and cannot rave enough about the Opticomm network. Not uncommon to clock 1.5x the "theoretical" maximum speed.

    • Weird, I on the other hand can't seem to get even 100 mbps on my phone. Been trying to get it sorted since day 1! Are you using wired LAN to get that speed?

      • No, that's just running 5Ghz wifi on a 5yo laptop in the same room as the router. It drops once connected through a satellite mesh node, but still reliably above 100mbps.

        • Right. It is weird then. Did you use their provided router, or your own?

          • @sh4hp: Uniti provided NetComm mesh router. Big step up from iPrimus POS I had prior.

I think that deal is still accessible: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/589572

    Contract? Nahhh

    • It's Opticomm network. I believe all providers on it lock you into a contract.

      • +1

Nope. I know the few that had Opticomm offered initially (exetel, leaptel) is contract free.

        • My mistake, I just went and checked Exetel, Leaptel and Aussie Broadband Opticomm plans and you're correct, you can choose No contract options. I'm not sure if it was LBNCo previously then, as I was helping a friend and I when I checked out all the providers available at the time they only offered contracts and they were expensive too.

          • @Cousin IT: I actually signed a 12m with Exetel. They upped their package prices and i wanted to retain my existing $90/m so they agreed to the discount if i locked in for 12m…they haven't been too bad if im being honest but now that Aussie are an Opticomm ISP, i can't wait to try them out. I've only heard good things about them.

OP, I think you should include [Opticomm] in the title, as this plan is only available on Opticomm network. Also going through the process it appears that there is a $79 activation charge and 2x $15 charges (1x Shipping and handling and another described as a one off cost), this info should be included in the description.

    Charges shown here: https://imgur.com/a/tGv5LR9

    • doesn't it all just go back into the same nbn network?

also HarbourISP is now owned by uniti group ltd.

I went back to check my bills if this was a "deal" and saw an email detailing of the new way they are going to bill me starting in feb. facepalm

(for me it is not a deal.)

      • +1

No, NBN is separate to Opticomm, LBNCo, and the other Fibre providers. They are actually competitors.

      • Opticomm is NBN done right, for greenfields estates. Not exactly an NBN competitor as it's usually one or the other.

Uniti group seem to be in the process of quietly acquiring most of the private fibre networks, with the exception of TPG.

  • +1

    I wish i could get 250mbps

  • +1

    25 up is embarrassing

    • It would be on NBN where theoretical > actual, but this is Opticomm where it's the other way around. Actual up is consistently closer to 40.

  • Thanks OP

So would this be eligible for the NBN FTTP free install on a three year business contract ?

    • +1

No this offer is only available where Opticomm is installed. NBN FTTP and Enterprise NBN is not the same thing even though both are FTTP.

      • +1

        Thanks

        • Do you want to know more of the differences?

$0 Enterprise NBN build fee isn't guaranteed.

  • How do I tell if I'm in a OptiComm fibre area? The OptiComm site isn't easy.

  • So… I joined yesterday. The Sales staff sent me a sign up link after the call and I registered.

20 minutes after sign up, my Internet with iPrimus went down. It was too big of a coincidence for me to think outage and unfortunately iPrimus’s call center closed at 8pm Melbourne time (terrible on their part) so I called Uniti to ask if potentially my service was connected. The staff said nope - it’ll probably not be available until tomorrow afternoon and be confirmed my order was “pending” … okay.

An hour or two later, my Internet with iPrimus was still not up. I called again to ask if this was possible and don’t think the guy even checked but he said there’s no way we are connected; it takes a few business days.

Come morning, still not Internet. In the entire time I’ve been with iPrimus outside of network wide issues I’ve never been without internet for that long. I called iPrimius who confirmed everything looked okay on their end.

So I called Uniti to ask again, who confirmed yes my connection was active, however I never got an email, or text message to state my service was active (really frustrating)

I can’t remember why but she transferred me to another lady, who tried to set my internet up but couldn’t get it working. so I was sent to “level 2” (whatever that means ) and after an hour with the new man, finally got it working after they checked with a different team (call center staff kept giving me the wrong password)

speeds are good. With ethernet cable I’m getting approx 170mbps for a 250-25 plan during off peak hours. Hopefully my experience with their CS improves though.
