  • Haven't used water flossers, are these actually good and effective than traditional flossing?

    • +1

I'd say for most people they won't do as thorough a job as physical floss.

But since using water, i use physical floss much less often.

FWIW water flossers can be really messy with water and mouth gunk spraying everywhere, so I use mine (portable type) as part of my shower routine now.

      • part of my shower routine

With the water running? That seems like a waste of water.

I go into the shower, nude, floss my teeth, do the floss, then turn on the water.

        • Tomorrow's Juicy challenge - floss your teeth whilst doing the floss

Anyone who hops in the shower before the water is warm is a sadist.

I brush my teeth in the shower while the water is running like a normal person.

    • No, you will still need to use physical floss

Just a general comment - having had both a mains powered water flosser (not this model) and a rechargeable handheld unit, I recommend the handheld type to anyone that asks (and judging by this post, everyone that doesn't ask as well haha).

    • I recommend the opposite as the rechargeable hand held units have way too small water capacity meaning annoying refills to get one round of flossing done.

Try piksters interdental brushes if you want something fast and friendly on the go.

The real question is whether the Panasonic model is worth the $60 premium over a Waterpik (on sale)? Main con of the Waterpik seems to be longevity with models dying after 1-2 years.

      • Maybe I'm lucky and my teeth don't need as much flossing, but the smaller tank isn't an issue for me. I'd say i refill every two uses.
Plus since I'm in the shower anyway, it's not hard to refill.

        • Same here. I have a portable one with 300 ml capacity and i can always complete a flossing round without refilling.
          I wouldn't buy a smaller one though.

        • Haha damn my uncorrected overcrowding :)

  • Haven't actually tried this model but I would still suggest it over Waterpik, which for me just has kind of a flimsy cheap feel about it. Hard to explain but I would assume Panasonic would be better in that regard.

  • this is overpriced. the xiaomi one is around $50 iirc

  • I've been using a portable one (battery powered Philips) for many years and really like it.

I purchased a Waterpik about a year ago from a Shaver Shop special and thought it would be better. It turns out the big desktop ones have the same pressure, but they can't be used in the shower easily as the portable one can. I never use the desktop one as a result and keep using the portable one.

Portable ones are also generally cheaper and don't take up precious counter space.

  • Not much of a discount. Selling for the same price at Harvey Norman $149.
