Motorola Xoom 32GB Wi-Fi - $379 + Shipping (Link to EB in body)

70

LINK IS IN BODY TO AVOID BAN ON EB SUBMISSIONS(I don't think this would apply to the banning criteria as this is a great deal and not a still over priced video game)
http://www.ebgames.com.au/pc-154674-MOTOROLA-XOOM-Android-Ta…

Just found this on EB's website. Best price I can find locally. JB and Harvey for $400.
Not sure how much shipping is because their checkout process doesn't really specify (Don't want to put in all my details just to find out). So leave how much it is in comments if you are buying.
Good thing about this deal is that its more than likely gonna take a few days to get here rather that a few weeks from overseas.

and for the curious ones amongst us, shipping charges are (to Canberra):

Ship to my Delivery Address - Standard - 2-3 Business Days - $8.10
Ship to my Delivery Address - Express - 1 Business Day - $13.70

Use MADMONDAY to get free Standard shipping or $8.10 off for Express shipping

  • I have got it last week from JB hifi for $369!
    no Delivery no hassle :-)

  • EB Games are banned on ozbargain?

    • probably are just frowned upon? i havent checked prices at eb for a while now, but gamestop prices.are usually at a slight premium.

  • Just a thought… if EB links are banned (not sure why?) is it really such a good idea to blatantly try to circumvent it?

    • could be like macca's where they have requested they not be listed… in that case it could cause legal headachs?

    • EB was just stopped for today because of excessive Mad Monday posts.

      • Yes, this. The Mad Monday deal was posted 4 times.

Don't compare Direct Import prices with local prices, the items are not comparable.

  • been looking at getting a sony tablet s, anyone got thoughts on which of the 2 is better? both seem quite similar to me minus the infrared and ps games on the sony.

    • Never owned a Sony tablet but I can vouch for the quality of the Xoom, it feels as sturdy as an ipad, no flexibility in the body, totally rigid. Speaker quality is great, screen seems awesome to me (I have a SGS2 as well and see no obvious difference in quality though I do between that and wife's Nexus S)
Excellent speed, great battery life, connected to wifi and 3.20 was downloaded and updated within 10 minutes (3.22 being the very latest and last update for honeycomb I believe)
Overall I have zero buyers remorse and I normally do as I'm a total tech junkie and buy stuff like this on impulse regularly.

      • seems like a good tab, decently priced. i think the main differences are paying extra for sony so it syncs with most things i have (tv, ps3, etc) + universal remote + ps games. does the xoom have full usb port or just micro?

        • Just micro. That is a minus as my Archos 101 had USB.

    • I have owned the Asus, Sony, Acer & Toshiba. Of the four, I rank them Asus (1), Xoom, Acer, Sony and Toshiba.

The Xoom and Acer are very close, but Xoom wins out in my books, now that Moto are going to be owned by Google (prompt updates).

I didn't like the Sony shape, and it fely very plasticky…

Toshiba I'll never buy again, due to their long delayed, slow release of software updates.

I would definately get the Sony Tablet S over the Xoom. It's packed with features like wireless video/photo/music streaming from tablet to TV, programable universal remote, excellent screen quality using Sony Bravia engine, micro USB, SD slot, faster internet browsing, light weight ergonomic design, very responsive touch screen, and many other tweaks Sony have added to their tablet.

You can get the tablet S at the moment at JB for $554 plus get get a free $100 PSN voucher as a bonus which makes the tablet only $454. I don't know how long the special will last though.

The Sony Tablet S was Voted Best of Innovations for Tablets, e-readers and netbook category by Consumer Electronics Association for 2011-2012: http://www.cesweb.org/news/releaseDetail.asp?id=12206

      • i wanted the sony from the get go but no one ever spoke about it when compared to iconia, transformer etc. it may have just been because there were deals at the time of the sony release and no one wanted to look at a full price item.

so now im stuck between iconia, xoom and sony s. sony misses on the full usb, hdmi out, bad glass screen (i hear) and apparently the brightness isnt any good esp. outdoors.

on a side note, i just popped into jb and the guy there seems to say that the xoom and iconia a501 cant be updated to 3.2 android or ICS. dont know if this is true, but makes me want the sony more then.

Guy from JB knows shit. I'm typing this post from my 3.20 Xoom, as soon as I unboxed it and connected to wifi I was prompted to update to 3.20. The update also unlocks the memory card slot which was inexplicably locked down on 3.0. Also note that google and Motorola just partnered up (google bought them out) so expect ICS on all of the newer Moto's such as Xoom.

As Arcticfox said, the Sony was awarded for its innovative syncing with PS3 and Bravia TV. Not so much though for its poor build quality as reported by several users here in other threads. Both run 3.20, both have nvidia tegra2 dual core cpu, same ram also. Xoom wins on cameras, both 5.0 mp but Xoom has LED flash, Sony none. Also Xoom has 2.0 mp front facing camera, Sony 0.3 mp. Xoom 32GB storage with micro SD slot, Sony 16GB with standard SD slot. Xoom hdmi out port, Sony none. Xoom has 10 point multitouch screen, Sony has 8 point multitouch.
Theres really not that much between them but Xoom does have the better hardware features, Sony has PSOne games, remote control (who really wants to use a tablet as a tv remote??) and sync with Sony stuff.

The sony uses the Bravia engine which gives the best picture contrast and clarity. In regards to screen, just get yourself a $2 screen protector of ebay and you should be right. Sony comes with a full SD card slot (can use with micro SD as well using adaptor), do the others come with SD slots?

The sync can be to any TV or manufacturer not just Sony. I use the Universal remote (works with any device in the home and manufacturer) and wireless streaming feature all the time, it's so awesome.

The Sony won the CES award and based on the CES website, yes it does include engineering and build quality, which I can confirm is quite good - although not as solid as metal offcourse but it makes up for being light weight and portability:

"Entries for The Best of Innovations are judged on overall engineering qualities related to technical specifications and materials, aesthetics and design qualities, the product’s intended use and function, unique features and how the design and innovation of the product compares to others in the marketplace"

        • Also forgot to note that syncing music, photo's and videos with a PS3 are simple on any android system. I just synced all my free bandit fm free mp3 downloads (see bandit fm deal from weekend) from my Xoom (which I also got from an Ozbargain deal last week) using Double Twist Air Sync (10c Android app deal) to my PS3. Oh and I'm typing this on my Logitech bluetooth tablet keyboard (also posted on ozbargain over the weekend) That was a lot of Ozbargain'ing…

  • No more bloody Monday horrray.
