Motorola Moto Tag Bluetooth Tracker: 4-Pack $165, 1-Pack $49 + Delivery ($0 C&C/in-Store) @ Harvey Norman

This is following on from the previous deal. It's not an ATL, but still decent prices if you are after Bluetooth tags that work on Google's Find My Device network

Google launched their competitor to Apples Find My network earlier this year.
3rd party tags have finally started being launched in Australia.

Motorolla's Moto Tag is considered to be the current best offering in the Google/Android ecosystem for a few reasons:

  • UWB ready (Ultra Wide Band), when Google finally launch support for UWB over the coming months. All the other trackers currently launched don't have the UWB hardware in them.
  • Supports Apple Airtag accessories/cases, etc due to the same dimensions
  • IP67 Water Protection
  • Replaceable batteries (CR2032)
  • Bluetooth 5.4 with Bluetooth Low Energy Range of up to 100m

Top tip:

It's worth noting that by default Google's find my settings on android devices are very restrictive, where it will only work in high traffic area's. It is recommended you change your settings to 'With network in all areas' under the 'Find your office device' settings option on all Android devices. The more android users that do this, the more accurate the Google find my device network will function. • Any real world reports of battery life from a single CR2032?

    • samsung tags improved battery life form Gen1 to Gen2. (they added option to disable UWB via settings, which increases battery life)

      • Is that really improvement by disabling such a feature like that?

        • Not every android phone has UWB support? My s23 doesn't.

    • +1

I've had mine since the 23rd of December. Been using them while travelling the US and no issues so far.

      • How good is the tracking? Curious to see if it can be added to google home routines

      • You'd be hoping for ~year long battery life though right? That's what I get from my old Tile on the same battery (CR2032ol).

  • I have used Tiles for years.
    I have the Samsung tags
My wife has apple air tags.

They all do something better than the others.
I actually have an air tag atrached to my samsung phone so i can find it using my wifes iPhone
I would not buy Tiles again even though they are handy sometimes.
When within a few metres the air tags actually tell you how far and what direction to head

I'm not technical so will this work on all Android devices? If so I'm very interested in how much better the wide band will be

    Cheers

It's the wide band that allows this to have directional tracking like Airtags.

    • +1

Yes, Motorola Tags work with generic Android devices.

Samsung Tags only work with Samsung Galaxy devices.

      • Learned this the hard way…

  • Is the "With network in all areas" setting visible to all?

  • So can these be detected by both iPhones and Android phones?

    • No, those won't work as Airtags.

Even other tags that support both tag networks won't be able to be used in both networks in parallel. They might get detected as unknown tracker but that's it

      • Which tags can be used in both networks? I know there are tags that can come as Android or Apple, but I'm pretty sure they're specific models? You can't switch between them?

        • +1

Correct, as far as I've seen so far trackers from Pebblebee which are "universal" can do either Apple Find My OR Android Find My, not both at once.

I'm not sure if it's an Apple or Google requirement to be a 3rd party developer, but it would be nice to have both networks acknowledge the tags ID at the same time when in range.

          • @camshandez: And at that price and size, you could just get a set of air tags and a set of fancy smarttags… Doesn't make much sense.

It's most likely Apple walling off the competitors, let's be honest.

  • Been looking at Pebblebee's to replace my Tiles that seem like a dead product at this point given it relies on the Tile network that no-one is buying into now. But these are slightly cheaper…

    • Tile is committing economic suicide by refusing to adapt.

      • Yeah, I don't get it… I like my tiles and they saved a lost wallet for me, but I'm struggling to even justify putting a new battery in them because I don't see them being a good option long-term. lol

  • All the other trackers currently launched don't have the UWB hardware in them.

Samsung's SmartTag2 has been out for a while…why is this better?

    • AFAIK Samsung SmartTag2 requires connection to a compatible Galaxy smartphone or tablet Android 9.0 or above with over 3GB of RAM. These are universal and work with any android device > android 9.0.

      • Seems like a reasonable and somewhat trivial limitation given its 2025…

OP should remove the erroneous information in his post.

        • Not sure what you're saying is reasonable limitation… But needing to have or buy a Samsung device to use their trackers is a pretty large limitation for most buyers.

Maybe OP just needs to say "All the other google find my device compatible trackers currently launched don't have the UWB hardware in them."

  • The tracking is completely dependent on how many devices are reporting the locations right? So if any iPhone detects an Apple itag it'll report it, so it requires a solid network of devices.

What devices will be reporting the location of these? Any newish Android device? Any anecdotes on how well they track outside of your home?

  • I use chipolo. have been happy with them :)

  • Supports Apple Airtag accessories/cases, etc due to the same dimensions

    Interesting

  • Upvote just so I now know this exists. Thanks OP.
