Not sure I'd put much trust in an MSI lappy anymore

    • Interesting that amd complied with msis request, that seems so petty and childish.

MSI had requested AMD make me take the video down.
Just to clarify, AMD were on my side here.

    • Reminds me of a recent reddit post.

I bought an MSI monitor based on that glowing review. Then, once I got my monitor and found a massive flaw with the port selection and posted a reply on the review informing others of the massive flaw. The OP took offense and said I was a minority and kept asking for where I saw the other reviews of the monitor (most likely they'll try to reach out to those individuals and get them to remove their posts). Also tried to lie about their association with MSI saying their only association was that they bought a couple of MSI products. Even though it was so obvious from their replies.

Alas, I updated my reply a few days later outlining more flaws I found with the monitor and provided my honest opinion of the monitor - which was that it's a cheap monitor, not worth it, even at the discounted price and the other 2 options I mentioned were better options in every aspect that mattered.

If anyone is looking to buy MSI products, my recommendation is to stay away.

MSI products are OK. They are budget products at best, but what really ruins it, is the fake reviews.

      Interesting, thanks.

  • Should see if it can be upgraded to 16GB RAM too.

    • +3

      Yes, 2 RAM slots inside.
      Up to 2 x 32GB = 64GB.

Once you get the laptop, first thing you wanna do is uninstall Nahimic. It is the bane of a lot of my laptop's issues.

  • Does anyone know what the warranty is? And if extended “premium” warranty is available? (“Premium” being on-site repair/replacement).

Very tempted to pull the trigger on this, as I have the Spend $400 and get $80 cashback from my AMEX.

    • I would probably just contact MSI Australia customer support

Is the USB type c 3.2 capable of displayport 4k 60fps?

Best deal ever on 1660ti with 144hz screen laptop

    • -1

Won't be such a great deal once you realise that the screen is probably one of the cheapest budget screens on the market and performs like the cheapest budget 144Hz screen! Or that the 1660Ti probably runs at some very slow clock speeds.

I wouldn't take anything from MSI by face value. Anyone looking to buy, do your research. Read the tiny print and find out the exact details - ignore the fake reviews on the interwebs.

I am tempted, but I prefer the Ryzen 7 4800H CPU.

Did some research, I think it better to wait for the new ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 15.6" 240Hz R9 4900H 2060 (GA502IV-AZ035T).
These are currently around $2500. Maybe during the NY sale you can get them for 10-20% off?

  • This is actually quite a good price for GTX1660Ti which is comparable to RTX2060 MaxQ.
    Comparing to Zephyrus G15 GA502 240Hz Ryzen 9 4900H/RTX2060 - $1950 (with Asus cashback):
    https://www.centrecom.com.au/asus-rog-zephyrus-g15-ga502-156…
You would be saving around $550 for a weaker CPU.
    4900H is 25% faster in multi-core?

Upgrade to 2070MaxQ is about $50?
Upgrade to 16GB is around $50?
    Upgrade to 240Hz screen?

So the Zephyrus G15 is about $300 more for the extra 25% in multi core performance?
