Weber One Touch Silver Charcoal Barbecue $199 from Bunnings

190

Weber One Touch Silver $199 from Bunnings. Advertised in the Courier Mail and confirmed by a friend in the Carseldine store. Normal price everywhere else is $299 and they are very seldom discounted.

For those that don't know the Weber OTS and OTG Kettles are acknowledged as by far the best charcoal/heatbead barbecues, mine is 10 years old and other than some slight surface rust in places still looks 100%.

Advert says limited stock so act quick if you want one!

Edit: Confirmed in NSW too so hopefully all states

Edit 2: See maverick's comment below for the difference between this and the regular OTS

Yes it is in NSW aswell
    Awesome price.. $299 elsewhere!

    • Thanks mate updated the OP

      • Hi Martyn, the statement in your original post, "Normal price everywhere else is $299" is unfortunately inadvertently incorrect. The $299 model has different internals to the one Bunnings is selling.

No-one seems to have answered the most obvious question:

Why is this particular "One Touch Silver" selling for $199 as opposed to the normal "fixed" price of $299 at every other store?

      There are 4 reasons:

      1) They have not been brought into the country by Weber Australia. Bunnings imported these Kettles directly from the US and therefore any warranty issues have to go through Bunnings who will then pass them on to Weber in the States.

      2) The grilling surface is the cheaper plain steel grill with no hinges for adding more briquettes as opposed to the nickel plated grill which also has side hinges for adding more fuel - cost difference approx $25.

      3) It doesn't come with charcoal baskets for the coal or briquettes - cost difference approx $35.

      http://www.weberbbq.com.au/AccessoryDetails.php?id=29

      4) It doesn't have the Weber Australia cookbook - who really cares - but Weber put an inflated cost of $45 on this hard cover book.

So they are the 4 differences. Some you may think important, others not so.

But please don't think Bunnings is providing a $100 discount. There's no actual discount, they are just selling a slightly different model which annoyingly carries the same base name of "One Touch Silver".

The 2 Kettles have different model numbers:- 741001 for the US Version ($199 at Bunnings or US$85 in America) and 741024 for the AUS version ($299 fixed price anywhere in Australia).

      Hope this clarifies things.

      • Wow ,
        That's a lot of investigations !

        Good one Maverick,

Just the reason I flock to Ozbargain !

      • Brilliant, this is fantastic info!

  • what is difference between one touch and the other weber kettle which normally retails for $199??

I bought the normal $199 one second hand off gumtree, only used twice for $50 and it came with bag of heatbeads. These things are amazing, cooks the best food with a great charcoal flavour. I suggest buying on gumtree you will only pay 1/4 of the price.

I also have Weber Q which is gas powered, best bbq you can buy on the market.

    • The lid height on the compact is smaller so you can't fit larger cuts (or beer can chickens!) and the depth of the kettle underneath the grill is also smaller so your coals are closer to the grill, not a mjaor issue but not a good thing for indirect cooking…

    • Q:"what is difference between one touch and the other weber kettle which normally retails for $199?"

A: The Weber Kettle that retails for $199 via Weber Australia stockists is called the "Compact Kettle". http://www.weberbbq.com.au/ProductPage.php?pc=k61597

Apart from the already mentioned reduced height/volume and the grill surface being closer to the briquettes, the "Compact" was conceived (according to Weber) to reach the $200 market and is therefore manufactured in Asia as opposed to the US. This also means it has a limited 5 year warranty instead of the standard limited 10 year warranty on other Weber charcoal kettles.

Also, like the 741001, the "Compact's" grilling surface is the cheaper plain steel grill (less rust resistant) with no hinges for adding more briquettes.

Hmm, might be time to use those Bunnings gift cards I stocked up on from that Yellow Pages offer… I love stacking discounts. :)

  • Heaps available at Townsville Bunnings. Just bought one, thanks for posting!!!

    • Hi, did yours have the sticker about the stock being imported from US? Also didnt come with the cookbook that the Australia model has?

      • Yeah I just went to look at my box and realised that it says this product will not be covered by Weber and the warranty is going to be covered by Bunnings. I am guessing this is why it is this cheap.

  • Lots available at Fountain Gate, Vic.

  • That's a good find, as many say Weber essentially price fix.
I was shopping for one only a month ago and called about 8 shops, all with the exact same price and they don't budge.
Webers are great, Kamado much better but more cash.
Charcoal BBQ only way to go!!!!!

    • Plus they're very thorough promoting the brand on certain websites with a chorus of how great their quality is, how you'll never cook meat better on any other brand and that the inflated price is justified.

  • Heaps in Mornington too.

  • Pardon my ignorance, but can this replace a normal BBQ? Does it have a steel plate or is it a grill only?

    • well it is charcoal cooking and takes much longer. I am not sure if they make plates for these, dont think so. But what do you really need a plate for apart from onions, which you can just do in a little pan on top of the grill.

if you want something more like a normal bbq then you should be looking at the Weber Q's which are the best value BBQ on the market and make great food. They run on gas, I have the Q320 it is a great bbq.
