  • Thanks OP, was looking for this. Got one.

For anyone debating this or the previously posted 5800X

Spoiler: in most cases the 5800X performs better, but not all.

Just sharing some feedback regarding why userbenchmark shouldn't be used as a reliable source of information:

      https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/g2x49q/userbenchm…

That website is heavily criticised in the tech community, feel free to YouTube and/or Google for more insight

Thanks for the tip, I figured the ranking was baseless

Ok so followed the thread, check this one out:

The only thing userbenchmark is good at is search engine SEO and getting the top rank in Google. Their performance comparison is useless due to using a obscure algorithm and not real world applications.

If you have applications that will use more than 8 cores, the 3900XT will most likely be faster due to the 4 additional cores.

If you use applications that are mainly single threaded or support up to 8 cores the 5800X will be faster.

@shellshocked: They they sure do that.
            Consider me properly chastised people.

The other thing that makes it hard is the fast that each core in the 5800X would be 30% or so faster due to IPC gains which is the astounding improvement.

So 1/3 less cores than the 3900XT, but they’re each able to perform more work

        • No worries.

To be fair, a lot of people aren't aware about the biased scores userbenchmark states.

I only found out through a WAN show stream on linustechtips youtube channel.

  • Why not use passmarks comparision function?
    https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/AMD-Ryzen-9-3900XT-vs-A…

as mitchins says, 5800xt has stronger single threaded performance, whereas 3900xt takes overall perfomrance crown due to higher number of threads. Video/Audio production, rendering, go for 3900XT. Gaming, go for Ryzen 7

For a second I thought this was a 5900x, got mega excited. Need coffee.

    • I'll one up you. Actually ordered one thinking it was a 5900X. Realised my blunder 2 days later… Now I can send it back as soon as I get it. 🙄

On that note - Anyone know how's the returns process for items ordered from Amazon UK via AU? Should I initiate the return now or wait to receive it?

  • Don't understand why people are having issues in getting the 5600x, plenty of stock over at Umart where I did a walk in and picked one up in store (also available from their website). Also is the free Far Cry 6 AMD promo applicable to the 5600x?

    • Not in stock atm (as of now)

It seems that 5600x does not come with free game.

  • tbf, the 3600 did just as well as the 3900xt in single thread (gaming) I had/have both
but watching the ease that the 3900xt does the same thing is very impressive
I expect that the 5000 series chips work about the same way, and that they will all work slightly better than the 3000 series in single thread application
