Can you use this without the mop function , and if no mop function is needed, is the Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum sufficient?
yes, I use it without the mop most of the time. The mop isn't going to replace scrubbing, and the water tank is pretty small, like a cup of water. Otherwise, it's a good work horse.
I've got the Xiaomi viomi V2 pro, it's quite a good vacuum cleaner for hard floors and decent enough for carpet. Although if you're looking for something in this price range, the viomi V3 has better suction than the V2 pro
Are these robovac useless for carpets?
The D9 turns out to be amazing on carpet.

I am also looking at roborock s5max.. d9 has 3k Pa suction vs s5max 2000 Pa so maybe d9 better at carpet?I just sent a message today to gearbit, the biggest issue for me is that after I map the house and a few clean later it for some reason thinks my house has turned 45 degrees, and remaps the house on angle over the original map. Frustrating, otherwise it’s a good machine when it works.

No. I have a Roborock S50 btw. I moved from my old one bedroom unit with fake wood lino and tiles to a new one bedroom place with carpet. I used to run it on Max (highest setting) and could go two cleans bewteen emptying the bin. With carpet the bin fills up quicker and it can't do my whole place in one go on Max power. Due to this I normally run it on Turbo (second highest setting) when I'm at work and then give it a go on Max every couple of weeks when I'm at home to empty the bin. Bit less convenient but even on Turbo it does a great job.

@capslock janitor: There are other threads on the same issue as well - Roborock support wont replace as its ‘not a fault’. So I was curious to check if anyone here has had similar issues.

Evovacs - too expensive and app/floor maps on Roborock is rated better!

S5 Max or the s6 maxv… S6 maxv looks like a good deal at $866 (with a $100 ebay gc).. Possibly best deal ever on the s6 maxv so far..?
s6maxv is $300 more for object avoidance only. s5max is very good price point for close to best vacuuming/mopping. i never need to mop anyway so could have gone with a xiaomi or s4 for $200 cheaper.
