Uncle Roger would not approve of cooking rice in this. Aiyah
Uncle Roger is yet to cook rice though he keeps promising.
Fun Fact: Sistema are looking for qualified people to dust off their 50% off signs in Woolworth’s and Coles.
How does the microwave rice cooker compare to a cheap rice cooker from say kmart?
The Kmart one ($13 from memory) is better than this.
The best of all is the Japanese-style ones. I have one from Aldi & it does white, brown, & sushi rice as well as makes soup.
ColonialBoy is correct, the rice cooker makes tastier rice than this. However, I have found there is one situation where this microwave rice cooker is perfect: getting dinner made in as short a time as possible, while your kids are going nuts and having tantrums.
I throw about 2 cups rice in (washed of course), 3.5 cups of water, yeet that sucker into the microwave for 11 minutes, stir fry some random fridge things in the wok, and when the microwave is done, dinner is basically ready. Clean up is easy too.
When the kids are a bit older, I'll pull out the trusty rice cooker again…
How is this any different from just putting in a bowl?
These have lids
I have one of these things. It has 2 lids; an inside one that builds a bit of pressure, and an outer one that reduces splatter and has little handles to pick it up when hot.
I believe this 2 lid system allows science to occur within the rice, leading to faster cook times. Or something like that. I'm not a rice scientist.
Well spoken, sire.
For anyone that rikes lice in a hurry, this is the nucks duts…
I find that rice cooked in microwave taste different to rice cooked in rice cooker. I don't really like microwave cooked rice.
I'll stick to the old method of using a saucepan. Throw in 2 cups of rice then poor 3.5 cups of hot water. Stir with a spoon for about 1 minute to stop rice from sticking together. Turn stove onto high until the water just starts to boil. Turn the stove onto the lowest heat possible and put lid on saucepan. Let rice cook and check after approx. 10 mins. When you can't hear water bubbling at the bottom then leave lid off for approx. 1.5 mins. Top of rice should start looking fluffy. Turn stove off and put lid back on for approx. 2 mins. The steam will prevent the rice from sticking to the bottom of the saucepan….can't go wrong. No sticky rice and nice and fluffy.
Past rice cooker deal
For $9.90 with the microwave container it's not a bad deal, considering the rice cooker is normally $11 by itself
Just a word of caution: mine barely fits in the microwave. If you've got a small microwave check it'll fit lol
