also even after 2.5% cashback still not a deal.

  • The Kogan and Kmart stick vacs have a larger suction and battery capacity @ $149 (according to the specs anyway).

Anyone have the Kogan or the new Kmart Ankor version (not the old one)?

    • I have the new kmart vacuum ($129), Does the job but not 100%. Well i don't have pets yet.

      • Cheers,

        This one?

        https://www.kmart.com.au/product/cordless-stick-cleaner---wh…

Can't find any suction data on it?

        • I’m sure the Kmart one would be much better than the Dyson……..not!

@Coops1: Kmart have some cracker products lately. I pulled my partners $800 Dyson apart (as was a fan of ole Sir James) and was trying to work out why the Dyson's performance was absolute rubbish compared to my 20yr old Kirby I bought for $100.

My mind was blown on how rubbish the actual performance side of the engineering was. What I realised is Dyson are brilliant at making an unbelievably super cheap to make (almost all plastic fasteners) vacuum and selling them at high prices. Kudos to Mr Dyson…but performance wise..very poor.

Dyson have put a fair bit of r&d into their high RPM DC motors, but drop the ball completely with flow dynamics etc. One of the models sucks from one end of the power head, not the middle….seriously!!

From what I read the v7 -10 Dyson's are around 17 Kpa suction, the Kogan around 23 Kpa.
So on specs, yes the cheaper brands are looking better at this stage. Kmart model looks similar to the Kogan. Choice findings are probably similar, I don't have a subscription though.

Batteries in the cheaper models are unlikely to last as long, but they are easily replaced and cheaply these days ($20 from and Aldi drill pack…good as lithium cells get).

So I just want the highest performing vacuum… brand doesn't bother me.

            • @tunzafun001: What do you make of Vacuum Wars' testing then? He seems to be convinced of the high end Dysons to perform.

              • @fractalsonfire: I'll check it out, cheers.

                I went to Kmart/ Big W today.

Kmart - $129 They didn't have the new white model (motor / filter on top - better idea), only the prior black version (motor below). Noticed it has a foam pad filter, then a paper filter, then another foam pad. Not a great filter system. However, if you replaced the first filter with a round (about the size of a cup base) piece of metal flyscreen, then it would be much improved. Powerhead was easily cleanable and powered by a motor (not using the suction air that I saw in a Dyson DC49).

Black & Decker Stick Vac - $195 - Absolute rubbish. From the ribbed 90 degree bends through to a paper filter only. Steer well clear.

Dyson V7 - They only had one Dyson on a display stand and had glued everything shut + put a few tech screws through the lot into the stand. So cant tell you much about it. Can see they use a mesh filter first (remembering the kmart version just used a piece of foam). Fins on the powerhead weren't as good as the Kmart setup. Thats about all I could see. Bit of a red flag to me screwing and gluing it shut, but maybe theft is an issue at that store.

                So jury is still out

        • Yes, but like said, does the job. But not 100%. It has max mode too

  • higher cashback with catch?

Wasn't that a pricing error though?

Pretty disappointed with the Dyson sales (or lack of) for Black Friday this year

    • Yeah same, was really hoping the V11 would be on offer.. considering they were more discounted not even a year ago. My DC59 is on its way out.

  • the v10 often goes down to $650 - 699.
    (motorhead though, not absolute)

  • Any V11 deals anywhere?

Pulled a friends Dyson apart today to fix it. Couldn't believe what I saw. The turbine inside used to drive the powerhead brush was cracked in half. No stress on this part, except for the rubber belt that connects the turbine to the brush.

It appears the belt has shrunk, pulling on and breaking the plastic turbine in half.

Now if this wasn't bad enough, the plastic turbine is attached to the metal shaft with…glue. Not even an attempt to mould the plastic into metal in anyway. Just glue, for something that drives the powerhead brush!, Not fit for purpose if I have ever seen it.

But it gets worse, the glue they used must not have set when they put it together and leaked down and left a raised bit the turbine has always rubbed against. It was all scuffed and melted.

That's two Dyson's from two I have pulled apart. They are built crap.

Dyson selling these for $$$ is a genius… No wonder he is knighted.

    • I guess the real question is how old are these units, and are comparable units in the market just as likely to have these wear and tear problems?
If a $300 Kogan lasts 3 years, and a $600 Dyson lasts 6 - which do you take?
