  • same price as amazon now

  • I think I got it from Amazon for $849 after Christmas but that might have been with a coupon.
Have to say very impressed. The fluffy head with the light especially is fantastic, although it does encourage you to vacuum a lot more.

  • +2

    Yep, this deal sucks

  • +3

We've had ours for 3-4 years and I'd pay full price again (around $1499). It really is a fantastic unit, with a battery life that suits us well (~130 sq.m house) and not too heavy for the wife. Great personal experience.

  • +4

The laser makes vacuuming sooooo satisfying

    • +5

So true, but when I try to spot vac, I keep going and end up vacuuming everywhere because the laser keeps showing dirt 😂

  • Excellent price, I got it a few months ago when JB had it on sale but it was more expensive than this, would 100% buy again awesome vacuum cleaner.

  • +5

You’ve got to absolutely need a Dyson vacuum right this minute to buy it at this price. The newer and better Gen5detect Absolute often goes on sale for $750-800.

    • I’m waiting for such deal again.

    • +1

won't you notice the extra weight? Doesn't that factor into the decision to buy?

      • I chose the v15 over the gen5 specifically because it's lighter and has a trigger rather than a button for easier 1 handed operation

      • +1

It depends on your fitness level I suppose, but for me the on/off button on the Gen5detect was essential as it’s much less practical to use a flexible hose attachment for spot/car cleaning with a trigger vacuum like the V15 or V8. With a Gen5detect, I can just turn it on & leave it on a surface and I’m only holding the attachment itself which weighs nothing.

If weight & handling is your main concern over pure performance, it’s worth considering the V8 which only costs like $350, weighs 2.5kg and is much better balanced than the current Dyson vacuums that are very front heavy. Having said that, no-one who has used the Gen5detect in my household has complained that it’s too heavy, including people with wrist injuries.

    • Is it actually better? It's only rated 4.3/5 but the V15 is rated 4.6/5 by all the reviewers on Google.

      • The Gen5detect has much higher suction in boost mode, runs quieter and has longer battery life. Those are measurable qualities and on top of that, there’s some minor improvements with the included accessories too.

If you read the content of the reviews instead of just looking at the overall rating, you can see the complaints people have aren’t unique to the Gen5detect, if the same person reviewed a V15 they’d find the same issues.

  • Keen to hear thoughts on the weight of this vs the Gen5detect, which is a little heavier. For long vacuuming jobs, surely you'd notice the extra 400g? which is like 13% heavier

    • Even testing both at a local JB the gen5 was noticeably heavier than the v15. Also the v15 is trigger rather than a button which is awkwardly placed, and can't be reached while holding with one hand (so have to use two hands to turn it off and on)

For those reasons I went with the v15 and love it

  • Is Dyson still competitive in the stick game?

    • +2

That is like asking if Tesla is competitive in the EV game, or Apple in phones. Sure there are cheaper options, some might even be better in some metrics, but Dyson is the market leader for a reason (suction vs weight, battery runtime, battery longevity, warranty support, parts availability, laser etc etc).

      • 5 years ago they were the only reliable cordless stick. Things change quick in tech, I would've thought the Chinese companies had stolen the lead on value like they have on EVs and phones.

        • +1

No, the Chinese companies can never take the lead because they aren't selling it for a rip off. The product leader has the be the one that rips off people the most by selling it as a "prestige" option that you must buy. It'll generally be 10% better than the next competitor, they can justify selling it for 100% more money. However, Apple is unique in the sense that their products are inferior but they still manage to sell it for more money. Amazing marketing, definitely world class leading.

  • The newer Gen5detect was cheaper than this before.

  • $10 cheaper on Amazon if you don't have Myer gift cards. https://amzn.asia/d/bcxI3rS
