  • If this is similar to the 653B then the Plex hardware transcoding is quite good.

    • Bought one and installed it last week, it has a Celeron processor that can do 4K encoding apparently.

I wonder how is this compare to Synology?

    • +1

What stopped me from buying a Synology is the limit of only two free camera channels in their surveillance software. Whereas QNAP's QVR Pro support 8 camera channels for free. Extra camera channels for the Synology are not cheap.

If you are not using it for surveillance, and you dont like to tinker, then the Synology is probably the one you should get.

      • thanks, didn't know that
I was under the impression Synology offered 8 camera licenses
went to Synology website & confirmed only 2 camera licenses on DS920+ :(

what do people think of their feature & reliability(heard that QNAP easier to broke)? kinda new in NAS :)

QNAP has had many security issues in the past

  • QNAP TS-453D-4G also great price at $839.00 plus $45 wish card

      QNAP TS-453D-4G $839 - $45 = $794
      QNAP TS-653D-4G $995 - $150 = $845

for $51, surely it worth that 2 extra bays
