  • Annoying trying to work out this or the ax86u

    • +1

Was thinking the same until I remembered I was on fttn

      • Just wondering what's the problem with FTTN, I'm on HFC so never experienced these problems.

      • +1

To get this working on FTTN bridge your VDSL2 modem to the Asus router.

  • i wish i saw this earlier and could use with the Shopback 10% deal yesterday

  • I'm still working out whether I should buy it. My RT-AC68U is now out of warranty and while it's working fine the range on it could be better, and the 8 LAN ports are what I sorely need.

    • i have the Asus GT-AX11000 router and it's fantastic.
802.11ax speeds are good, and 802.11ac clients also benefit from a better chipset.

    • I have AX88U as main router and AC68U as Mesh node. The AX88U range is significantly wider and speed even on Wifi 5 is better. Max I could squeeze out of AC68U is around 525Mbps and on AX88U it's 650Mbps for Wifi 5 and 900Mbps for Wifi 6.

Assuming though that you have Gigabit NBN, otherwise another AC68U for $160ish from Binglee for Mesh maybe better.

My AC68U purchased from Sydneytech 2 years ago died about 3 months back, and ASUS gave me a brand new unit (manufacturing date Jan 2020).

      • I'm on FTTP 50mbit but the main issue is the large number of IOT devices, some of which need to be hooked to Xiaomi Mi Repeater dongle otherwise they drop out frequently.

Double storey house and it's mainly the devices upstairs that need just a tiny bit better signal strength, they will work fine if they have just 10% more signal to noise ratio

Does ASUS AI mesh work fine with asymmetric device setups?

        • +1

It does, not perfect but it's doing what it's supposed to, best to run Ethernet cable as backhaul between two units. I used to run a single AC68U but with the more smart home devices I added eventually I had some drop in and out of connection so I bought the AX88U for Mesh setup. It's been working great since.

I'm on Gigabit and the setup runs well enough that I can download FFXV at 100MB/s on Ethernet connected to AC68U node while everyone else in the house have no issue with their wireless devices connecting to either of the units.

          • @Bigboomboom: Hi mate, what's your internet plan? You may have the fastest internet among all users. Did you use wireless backhaul for your asus aimesh or using Ethernet cable? Thanks

            • @HappyBargainer: ABB Ultra Fast 1000/50 since the beginning. I use Ethernet backhaul as it will be most stable and also allow the AC68U to maximize its wireless bandwidth.

              • @Bigboomboom: Lucky you to get such high speed. In your case, you can easily utilise the AC68U as you are using Ethernet backhaul. I have to use wireless backhaul due to no wiring around the house. So I have two tri band asus routers.

              • @Bigboomboom: By the way, did you contact Asus directly or the seller SydneyTech for the warranty issue? Thanks

                • @HappyBargainer: I contacted ASUS for RMA and sent it to them for warranty. After it was deemed not repairable, they issued a replacement notice to Sydneytec who sent out a replacement to me.

                  • @Bigboomboom: Thanks for letting me know. I bought one of my asus from someone and I do have the initial receipt. Not sure how to deal with in this situation. I believe that there is a bug in tri band asus router. One of 5ghz wifi keeps missing or disappearing. I found loads of users complained about the same thing online. Not sure if ax11000 has the same bug.

  • Can anyone confirm if I can use the voucher along with some gift cards? I had the $50 voucher from ebay plus and it wouldn't let me use it together with PLUSBF20

    • No you can't. Voucher for signing up to eBay Plus can't be used with discount coupon. I used mine on a non eBay Plus item as that one I know never get discount.

      • Can I use the discount coupon together with a gift card (not the signup bonus)?

        • +1

Yes you can. I have done that plenty of time before.

Giftcard is treated as cash and you are eligible for cashback using Giftcard too.

  • Does anyone know if a new model will be coming out any time soon??

    • Rumours are for ASUS to bring out Wifi 6e in 1st quarter of 2021.

      • Damn I might stick with this one….just tempting cause I wanna buy it but I am not planning on using it until I move out of home lmao

        • Have you read this article?
          https://www.cnet.com/news/asus-just-unveiled-the-first-route…

Any ASUS WiFi 6 hardware we buy today is already obsolete.

          • +1

@DoctorCalculon: Looks like a dead Replicator.

            • @Banj0: Was it Stargate SG-1 or Atlantis where those damn replicators were chewing through entire planets and space ships?

              • @DoctorCalculon: Don't recall them in Atlantis…but plenty around in SG-1.

          • @DoctorCalculon: Any modem/router you buy today is already obsolete. Same can be said about anything in tech.

            • +1

              @KangaDrew:

Same can be said about anything in tech.

Yes. Same can be said for cars or any piece of technology.
My comment was in relation to the fact that Wi-Fi 6E hardware from ASUS is just around the corner, and so the obsolescence will be much sooner than later.

              • @DoctorCalculon: Not worth the price it'll be IMO. WiFi 6 is pricey enough as it is. This router checks all the boxes for me while future proofing for WiFi 6. Once devices use WiFi 6E as standard, something else will have taken it's place three times over etc etc.

                • @KangaDrew:

                  Once devices use WiFi 6E

I stand corrected. Such adoption will take years to build up. Then we will enter the same cycle with WiFi 7 being around the corner.

          • @DoctorCalculon: still worth it though??? hmmmmmmmm

  • +1

Awesome, almost forgot to check the prices on these. Looking to replace my old Archer D7. This is a much better deal since it’s free postage eBay plus for people in WA

    Cheers!

  • Well damn, you mean I didn't need to drive to Bing Lee today to save $6 postage?

Already hooked mine up anyway. Relatively seamless once I figured a few issues out.

  • Been waiting for a price drop on this for the last few months. Glad I held out, thanks OP!

  • Seems to be out of stock. 😫

    • I got one of the last ones. There were only 2 left when I purchased mine (that was about 30 minutes ago).

      • Not many stock of these units around at the moment thanks to COVID.

        • Yeah I've been waiting on it to come down for months now since moving to a new apartment with FTTP. Amazon has had it for $549 for ages but they price jacked it today to $569 and then "reduced" it to $519 to make it look like the discount was $50 vs $30. smh

Try your luck at Bing Lee.

      • And it’s gone….

        Sigh :(
