a 50 dollars one would be a good option too

OzBargain book deals should include "$ per 1000 words" in title so we can compare value. I think this deal would do very well.

so many free books from FB market place …

Hi syousef, totally fair enough to assume that. Because of the pandemic we have a massive excess supply of books that would have gone into our stores, but hadn't been able to. Thankfully we're getting back up and running in our Melbourne stores again, but we still have way too many books in our warehouse. We figured we could offer a good Black Friday deal and clear some room - two birds one stone. Rest assured that the selection in the box is good. We also have boxes with visible booklists on the website, if you'd rather know what you're getting (again, totally fair enough!).

Have you considered that it could be your attitude/time that's getting you downvoted?

          • -6

@staceyasinme: Yeah horrible attitude warning people not to waste their money on a bargain site buying something that's obviously likely to be low quality..

Have you considered that once you annoy someone for any reason, legitimate or not, they can follow you around and downvote?

Have you considered that the attitude on this board sucks? The last deal I posted was for a router. I included a review. I had one guy argue with me again and again that the review was useless and unnecessary, and another argue that the review wasn't detailed enough. I don't post deals anymore.

But yeah my fault for bothering I guess. I'm still seeing some upvotes from time to time and I'm still seeing some people find my comments useful, so I'll keep commenting at least for them. But the effort of posting a deal. Not worth it to be abused.

@syousef: The problem is that your warning was based on nothing else but your own assumption. You could have phrased it as if it was an assumption because maybe you bought from them before or similar mystery book deals rather than implying you actually know they are random junk books. Hope you can see the difference.

              • -6

@gdiddy7: Everything that can be used to pass the time has been selling for much more than it was worth before, with the demand outpacing supply. From computers to consoles to board games to puppies, IF you can get one it'll cost you much more than normal. That's no assumption. Now out of the blue come books at bargain prices in a lucky dip with very little detail on the kind of book included. Do you think they're going to be wonderful books, or do you think they'll be whatever dregs can't be sold? But go ahead, roll the dice, and if you have any money left over, come see me about buying a bridge.

@syousef: I don't know you and I have nothing against you personally, but man you sound like you have a very cynical view of life in general

                  • -3

@gdiddy7: Yeah, nah. Look up toxic positivity, because your one liner is a textbook example. Not wanting to get ripped off is not at all cynical. What is cynical is bundling a bunch of crap you can't sell individually and suckering people into buying it. Or taking a dump on someone for pointing that out.

Oh and btw when the store added new bundles that listed the books I commended them on it. How does that fit in with your narrative of me being cynical?

But keep on downvoting, people. I hear it warps reality to be what you want it to be when you downvote enough.

handpicked selection… fiction, non-fiction, history, cookery, lifestyle, mindfulness

    Trump biography
    Pete Evans cook books
    ….

    • Sounds better than hand thrown, but I bet a computer was used to work out how likely they were to sell.

  • +2

Nah, rather know what I am getting. Good for someone who has an empty bookshelf.

    • +4

Yeah definitely see where you're coming from, it isn't for everyone. The majority of our book boxes on the website aren't mystery boxes, if you'd rather choose by genre and know what you're getting. Have a good one!

  • +4

If you had $50 for 20 books & could select the genre (eg Adult Fiction) I think it would be very successful.

    • this is a good idea. Not remotely interested in the randomness of this…. who the hell uses cooking books still

      • +1

Noted re: $50 boxes! And in terms of not being interested in the randomness of this item, that's super understandable - we do in fact have boxes in the same vein as this one but organised by genre/topic if that's more your style. You can find them here: https://bookgrocer.com/c/stay-at-home-specials__2 (let me know if I shouldn't be posting other links in the comments and I'll take it down)

      • I don't use cooking books anymore, but they are lovely to look at :D Sad I missed this deal!

  • +1

Hint at some of the books…..

    • Guess the book
      For Dummies

  • +1

Took a chance and ordered, thanks OP

    • Will be interested to see if your gamble pays off. Report back when you get them.

  • +1

Could be suitable for local libraries, high school and aged care donations.

  • Do all boxes contain the same 100 books?

  • +1

Thanks for alerting me to the other bundles, they are great value if you are interested in that subject matter.

I got the gastronomy bundle. I'd been eyeing some of those cookbooks for a while now but was unwilling to pony up $50+ each for some of those books (eg. Igni, Orangum etc.).

    • See now THAT is better. You can actually look and see if there are enough books that you want that you should buy. You can even look up reviews, page counts etc.

    • No worries and thanks Fotato, happy cooking :)

Include "A Promised Land" and I'll buy a mystery box as long as I get Obama's book.
