First off, yes this is a bad site. You need to create a free account to see the prices.
As it's limited availability I'm not sure if every state can access this deal, as a general rule with blackwoods if it says delivery will take 21+days then it's probably out of stock for you but won't tell you until you actually go to pay (like I said terrible site).

Having said that this is a good deal for anyone already in the Dewalt eco system
The skin alone sells for $529 at Sydney Tools and Total tools and the battery retails for $179

  • I purchased this at this exact price 14 August this year. I believe it is a great price for this model which was a plus with the 6Ah battery, as it would compliment my other flexvolt range of DeWalts.

I had an Ego prior to this which I had to return due to it stopping half way through a cut. So I bought this half hearted, pushed on by the price and many good reviews, but in the end, I cancelled the order.

Sifting my way through all reviews, I came to the conclusion that this was not for me. I wanted something for the homeowner usage, small branches and the like around the home, which it reviews well in. But for going out further to grab a trailer load of wood or needing something reliable to take down a reasonably sized tree, going by reviews and the way it is built, I don't believe it is up for it.

I think the main issue I had with it, besides the drawbacks of how long you could use it on one battery and the flimsy bar, but is similar to the Ego, it has no metal bumper spikes. Just a ripple of plastic which has limited purpose.

    • You should check out the new 18” Ego, its a more powerful motor than the 16”, has metal bumper spikes and reviews very well. Im not actually buying this dewalt as i want the Ego 18”

      • They are an improvement but they still have the same flaw as the 16 inch. Stopping half way through a cut. See this review which explains it well.

They are great homeowner saws, but still aren't a substitute for anything more.

        • The review states (at the top in style) that they are referring to the 16 inch version. Go and watch the chainsaw comparisons vids on youtube and you’ll see the issue is largely gone

          • @donkcat: I see. The fact was the motor stopping in the middle of a cut was relatively rare. I remember looking at the time, I could only find one other review that had the same problem. Even Ego themselves were stumped.

The warranty was a right pain. They sent me to what appeared to be a run down TV repairer who, after a month or two, returned it with a replaced motor. The issue wasn't resolved at all. I doubt the motor was replaced to be honest.

The other issue I had with it was the 5ah battery just suddenly dying. Going red like it was getting too hot. I would wait and then it would be green and go a bit more to die again. I tried another battery and it did the same thing. See a similar reviewer with the issue here.

So while it is a new model, there are so many factors which would stop be going back.

            • @OldBugger: It's interesting, I really question if you just got a lemon.

All electric saws will cutout, it's a inbuilt protection to prevent the motor and battery from overheating. So I think both your batteries and motor was cutting out to protect them. It's interesting you say it was odd it was happening in the middle of the cut because that seems to be when the motor is under the most stress and cut out. The 18" from the reviews seems to hold up so much better than the 16" before cutting out but you aren't the first review I've read that hasn't been satisfied with Ego's handling of the warranty.

Hopefully the Dewalt holds up better for you, really the Dewalt, 18" Ego and the Milwaukee are quite close in terms of performance and were the best rated.
