Was already a decent deal at $599. This additional $50 drop made it a no brainer for me, replacing the last of my two stroke garden tools. Free delivery is just the cherry on top. Skin-only tool (CS1610E) sells on its own for $399.

Includes:

  • CS1610E chainsaw with both 16" and 14" bar and chain.
  • 2x 2.5Ah batteries
  • Standard ego charger
  • …and don't forget the free hat!

If willing to spend another $450 on EGO gear, can take advantage of the $1000+ redemption offer for an additional free 2.5Ah battery. Can easily re-sell the extra batteries for $150+ on eBay or Marketplace. Can sold quite a few myself to make good deals even better.

  • EGO

    Is that a dirty word?

  • I was just about to lament the fact I already have 3 batteries, but the idea of selling these two to supplement the chainsaw is extremely interesting. I have a bunch of palms that I've really wanted to bring down too. Anyone got an opinion on this saw?

    Oh and free Hat!

    free Hat!

    free Hat!

    • I generally buy all my power tools batteries as "new" from eBay, typically people like me selling them out of kits or whatever else. Note though that EGO warranty is non-transferrable (which I found dissapointing), but your consumer rights should override that anyway, especially if you've got a manufacture date printed on the product and the product hasn't lasted a "reasonable amount of time"

They can stick a non-transferable warranty up their ego-hole.

      • I grabbed one. Thanks for the post. Saturday is a bad day to be a golden palm

Actually gave it a go on one. Holy shit - gone in the blink of an eye. Seriously impressed!

I bought the original one about 8 years ago for convenience whilst camping and 4wd trips. It was so far superior to any other electric chainsaw at the time it wasnt funny. It cuts brilliantly but chain condition is important like any saw. Out of the 6 ego products I have it easily does its designated job the best. The small battery makes it very easy to handle.

  • Tried ordering one of the advertised promo packs a few days ago. Got a call the next day saying there's no stock in NSW.

Anyone know if these promos are done on a regular basis? Gotta get in early on the next one.

Edit: to clarify, I tried buying one of the mower combos, not the OP one listed here.

    Regarding EGO. I purchased EGO 56V Brushless 450mm / 18" Chainsaw CS1800E kit, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/775392

    Experiences since May 2023:
1: the plastic is rough, not smooth. Meaning dirt, oil, wood dust, crap, etc sticks to it. Pain the arse to clean successfully, oil stains.
2: the single point chain tensioner is not good enough, cutting silver gum hardwood branches you do have to adjust the chain tension regularly compared to previous chainsaws.
3: the charger still has toxic odur coming from its circuit board, well it might not be toxic but it smells of burning PCB glue. I did contact support and yeah standard response to send it back under warranty. I just charge the battery outdoors.
4: the 5Ah battery is good for 40 minutes cutting hardwood, softwoods maybe 45-50 minutes.
5: plenty of grunt, quieter than a quiet two stroke whippa snipper.

It should of come with a chain file for this price. But no. Lucky I kept old chainsaw files to service the chain.
But considering the above this product range is not A-grade.
And that is the reason I am not considering a whippa snipper such as:

    • Thanks for the review. I was thinking about getting this for the few camping trips i do a year. Do you think it be ok for that?

      • Yeah should be good.

  • Yeah look, EGO is not necessarily the pinnacle of electric power tools, but generally speaking they strike a good balance between performance, quality and value, especially if buying during promotions which is all I ever do. I have two of their whipper snippers, a blower, and soon to be this chainsaw.

I've got their original cheapo whipper snipper which I bought off marketplace many years ago and it's been nothing but great. The battery, manufactured in 2016 has only now starting to die on me.

I've also got their commercial STX4500 with brushcutting blade. Also a very good machine, but the clamping mechanism for the handle is a bit flawed. The cam action action digs into the plastic and then no longer clamps properly. They did replace it for me, I just need to remember to tighted it using the wing nut AFTER pushing down the clamp lever; they shouldn't even have the cam-action lever to be honest.

Finally, their LM2135 mower. Only complaints are that it'd be good if they had a couple of lower settings, and the catching/cutting performance isn't always ideal, which I believe is because of the variable speed. There's a new model coming out that has speed control like the commercial mower so I think that'd address that issue.

So yeah, they're products are not perfect, but without spending a lot more money I don't think there's too many better alternatives. I haven't heard anything better about Greenworks or anything.
