Man having the patience to wait for next gen cards is getting hard..

    • What are you waiting for?

      • +18

        4070 and 7800 it seems

        • +3

Whose nut sak do you have to squeeze to get a 3070 at rrp?

      • +8

        3060 / 3060 Ti / Whatever AMD can produce around the $500 - $600 bracket.

        • +1

          Hang in there!

          • +1

@Diji: Thanks bby. Can't wait to play Half Life Alyx properly

        • I'd be happy if the 3060 range is around that price, but seeing the 3070s at $900+ range makes me doubtful, not at launch anyway…

Edit: More than happy to be proven wrong, in fact I'm hopeful.

          • +1

            @snackerjoe: yeah agreed.
3070 should be US $499 and performance is as a 2080ti

But im not so sure that its worth waiting around for.
3060 should be what? US $400, $450? who knows how it would perform, but i reckon around a 2070 Super since the 3070 is like a 2080ti.

So you will be paying around au $6-700 for 2070 performance. Not sure if its worth it.

A 5700xt launched at US $450. Only now are we seeing deals for this card AU $500

so thats like a US $350 card performing at 2070 Super levels.

Im thinking that if you can wait 6months to just hold out, but a 2070 super or 5700xt @ AU $500 would be better.

            • @locosam: For me at least I think it's worth waiting since I need a whole new build so I might as well wait and see what Intel brings and then compare and evaluate Intel, AMD, and NVIDIA all at once. :)

            • +3

@locosam: Yeah in general it's a terrible time to but computer equipment. Prices have been badly jacked.

Take for example the Ryzen 3600 chip. Camel camel camel shows the price over the last year, (in USD) to be as low as $150 in april, and currently $270 ..

So the price now is 80% higher than it was, despite being half a year older in tech, and despite the newer generation already being launched.

In a normal cycle the price would be lower than the low from half a year ago, and would be discounted when newer generation launched. So it would be well below $150 (us) .. but instead it's it's $270 .. in other words it's TWICE THE PRICE

There's $$$ reasons for this from covid etc, but mostly I believe it's because people are bored, and buying shit for something to do. I mean really, your old computer doesn't play awesome games already or do what you need to do? Then maybe your computer could be fractionally faster and save you 5 minutes a day of work .. but you will spend a day (500 minutes) or easily more researching, buying, setting up, transferring, doing tax on purchase, dealing with problems, warranty returns, etc .. so there's bugger all time saving or even time lost by changing it up.

So I'm trying to hold out and avoid paying twice the price .. I'm waiting till the prices come back to being really a nbargain not a ripoff.

ps this is not targeted at this particular deal, but rather at price of computer parts in general lately

              • @bono: I did notice a couple of monitor deals which still would have been good prior to covid but in general i agree with you.
Not to mention that videocard prices have been insane the last few cycles.
A 2060 super at au $350 would do me just fine, but as the prices are closer to what this is ~$500, whats the point when you can get a 2070s.

So im just waiting for a good deal on one of these midrange cards, but otherwise like you, im just going to wait it out.

            • @locosam: The 3070 pricing is really weird here. It should start at $809 based on USD conversion + GST, but there is only one card at one retailer listed at that price (a Umart Inno3d low-end model, which as expected is out of stock). Most of them are $950+.

Meanwhile the RX 6800 is listed at $950 and the RX 6800XT is $1050, both of which make the 3070 at $950 look just silly.

I assume in Jan-Feb when launch madness dies down we will see more retailers offering 3070s in the $800s but until that's the case it just doesn't make sense.

              • +1

@aelix: 3070 at $800 AUD will not happen for a year at least, the performance to price ratio is just too good for retailers to sell sub $900.
They know what they have and they are not going to give it up, 2070 supers were $800 the whole time they were listed before the 3070 came out.

                • +1

@rflash101: The RRP for the Founders Edition 3070 is $809. That's what Mwave was selling them for during their raffle before their stock was depleted. The markup for third party vendor cards is outrageous in this country, then there's the scarcity factor. These cards should be no more than $900 for the fancy cooler versions.

              • @aelix: Converting the US price into Au and adding GST is not how they work out the prices.

Shipping, import duties, transporting from the ports to all the distributors and then vendors. It all adds cost.

                • @[Deactivated]: Do you think these things are made in the US?

                  • @bejahi: No but the costs for importing are not static between countries.

If you think doing a simple currency conversion and adding GST gets you the equivalent price then you have no clue. If your justification for that method is "they are not made in the US" then you have no clue.

Are we being gouged, absolutely, should the price be a simple us to au $ + gst not a chance in hell. To imply this when you have 0 idea about the costs involved is why people have unrealistic expectations on pricing.

            • @locosam: Yeah this is exactly what I'm doing. Replacing an ancient gaming rig and going for 5600X CPU, B550 and 16GB ram but 'only' an 5700XT.

However I'm waiting to snaffle the 5700XT for sub $500. The new AMD cards are just too expensive, as once again AU is getting shafted on price.

Then maybe 2-3 years down the road I'll upgrade to something better. However, I'm happy to run stuff at non-Ultra quality, which makes it an easier decision.

              • @Draycen: The way prices are trending I'm starting to think I might even just upgrade to a Ryzen 3000 and RTX 20 series, and then jump to the next AMD platform (since this is the last of the AM4 support).

        • 3060 ti is reported to be at least as powerful as 2080 Super, stock is going to sell out crazy fast at inflated prices.

This 2070 might be a good idea I am wondering.

Edit: looks to be not much better than the 2060 Super, def wait for 3060ti on this one.

          • +2

@Jimbuscus: This card not being the super variant makes it not a particularly good deal.
Considering a 5700xt was selling the other day for under $500 last week.

if the midrange nvidia or amd is going to be this price and 2080s levels, then its worth waiting for

  • +3

Is this deal or no deal fellow ozbargainers?

    • +30

Maybe if it was the 2070 Super. But since it’s not, I’d say wait

      • +1

If it was the super this would be a cracking deal. Even the crap ones are $600+

        • +3

Decent supers were mid 500s recently. In comparison this isn't such a good deal.

          • @Budju: Yeah I remember considering buying one and thinking 'Nah, surely 3070s will be in stock at fair prices soon'

            What a fool I was.

            • +1

@Merlict: Hmm yea maybe, the 3070 prices are a joke right now.

At least with the new radeons coming out it should alleviate the supply issues and we can get something soon.

    • Good deal if you want something -now- .

No backplate so it's pretty ugly, for the shallow among us

    • Computer parts at this time are no deal generally ..

ake for example the Ryzen 3600 chip.

So it would be well below $150 (us) .. but instead it's it's $270 .. in other words it's TWICE THE PRICE they should normally be.

So there are zero true bargains to be had on computer equipment this year since April.

  • Would this be noisy given how small it is?

Oh I just realized it isn't an S. I'd rather spend $100 more and get the 2070 SUPER.

    • I have one and yes, IMO it's loud under load. They're really only good for really small builds where you can't fit something larger.

  • What’s the difference between this and the 2070 Super?

  • +7

My heart skipped a beat when I thought it was the Super variant.

    • Not holding my breath for 2070 super deals, they seem to be pretty sold up

      • -1

Just picked up a EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 Super Black Gaming 8G for $699 from Umart :)

        • -1

Ouch 3060ti will be out in two weeks and blow that card away for less money

          • @latenight: Good luck getting one.

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: The 3070 launch wasnt too bad some cards were sitll in stock at mutliple stores the day after launch. Fingers crossed the 3060 Ti launch is similar.

              • @latenight: You've given me hope! thanks!

          • @latenight: Not sure about less money. The rtx3070 was advertised as $499 in the US. This ended up as roughly $950 on average here.. So if the 3060ti is being touted as $400 in US.. Then I reckon by logic it will be at LEAST $750 here.

    • I went holy crap and then noticed no super on there

  • +3

    Waiting for $200 1660 super 😁

    • +15
    • +5

      Matches your name perfectly
      WaitingFor1660SuperForever

    • Well I guess I'm next in line after you because I'm waiting for 1660 Super to drop to $ 150

  • +3

Pretty much the cheapest so far for this card/compact 2070 to fit into a small ITX case (<12L) (those that bought the SG13 from previous CentreCom deal might be interested?).

  • +1

Is this suitable for a 1440p set up?

    • Sure

  • +3

3060 Ti launching on 2nd Dec hold strong.

No confirmed pricing but id guess $650. A card that will beat a 2080 super for that price is worth the wait.

    • Is there leaks on performance yet?
I dont see how they can get a 3060 for that price performing at 2080 super levels when the 3070 is around a 2080 ti.

Im thinking it might be more closer to a 2070 super levels of performance

    • Hey thanks for this, I was (somehow) totally unaware and ready to pull the trigger on a 5700XT. So will wait and see the specs and prices on this first. Presumably there'll be an AMD equivalent too.

      foreverwatingneverbuying

      • #foreveroutofstock

  • Guys, I currently have an i7-4790 and my 1060 3GB is a bit of a bottleneck I think (usually ~100% usage while cpu is a lot lower). I was planning on getting the 2060 Super as that seems like a good choice without being bottlenecked much by the i7-4790, do you think the 2070 will work is it too good for my CPU? My monitor is 1080p 144hz.

    • I wouldn't stress too much between them, the 2060 Super and 2070 are pretty close. Get whichever you find a better deal on.

    • Yeah 4790 is quite a bit dated. Consider getting 5600x which will give you much better potential for future gfx upgrade.

      • :/ i just retired my 4790… Still using my R9 270 loll stupid gpu releases with no stock and super high prices…

        • +1

Yeah it's insane. With no hope of getting rtx 3080 or 5800 xt this year, price for last gen will hold for a few more months I guess.

          • @aveeno bb: Yeh the demand and low stock totally destroyed my “prediction” of at least lower current gen pricing… To be honest I could have had a 6800XT as I have access to a distributor who had one for me, but at over 1k i passed on it and came to terms with a long wait and hopefully a price war between nvidia and amd in the new year… My current build is now nearly 1 year in the making… Insane when my last build (as u can tell very old lol) took matter of days to source and put together Lolll

    • 2060 Super and 2070 (non Super, which is this card) are virtually the same performance wise, so if you aren't limited by space in your case, I'd just get whichever is cheaper.

  • I'm surprised there is still stock left for 2070, since it was superceded by 2070 super for a while now.

Like others have mentioned, there is quite a difference between 2070 and 2070 super. 2070 super for instance, is much closer to 2080 than 2070.

    • +1

This card actually came out 6 months after the 2070 super launch for whatever reason

      • itx form factor would guess :)

  • Silly question but this will also work with larger cases no?

    • +1

Course it does work fine. Smaller cards like these are generally noisier than bigger cards due to less number of fans generally means have to work harder to cool down.

    • +1

Yes. Longer triple fan designs cool a bit better but not seeing any at this price

      • Fingers crossed there will be a 2070 super sale tomorrow

        • Why tomorrow?

          • @scud70: Aus black friday

            • @Poohybear: Oh… Thought that was next week… Well my company is doing the sales next week lolll

              • @scud70: Yeah official day is 27th not 20th. So it is next week. However lots of places start some deals earlier.

  • Damn this deal looks so tempting

  • i think this is same as 2060 Super

  • is this good for a <$500 GPU in a mid tower case?
Other option under 500 would only be 2060 as far as i can see

    • I can confirm that the 2070 is indeed better than the 2060.

  • thanks! bought 30 mins ago along with the Kingston A2000 and the i5-10400F. all set for my 144Hz 1080p setup

  • -1

    the temptation!!!

  • Just wait for 3060ti which is around the corner. It will further drive the prices of turing cards down

  • For a RTX 2070 card, this is an OK price. If the size is not a real issue for you, meaning you have other full-size options available.

The thing that makes this compelling is the size, for those building in ITX/SFF cases. The limited size means limited options. I've not seen anything faster than a RTX 2070, in this form factor (~190mm in length).

  • Very much agree with RNDM in terms of it being perfect for smaller systems. It is also a very well made card according to the following review, with adequate cooling to allow a further 10% boost through overclocking (without requiring a voltage increase):

    https://www.thefpsreview.com/2020/04/27/asus-dual-rtx-2070-m…

Considering the build quality allows for some meaningful overclocking (over the already overclocked factory specs) almost makes this a 2070 Super in a small form factor. As mentioned in the review, the 2070 Super is based on a different reference design which may make a similar size unachievable.

I bought one half an hour ago to go in my Thermaltake Versa H18 Micro Case. I dislike larger cases so, if you are like me, this may be the best value (and fastest) card you can put into a small system.

    • I dislike larger cases so, if you are like me, this may be the best value (and fastest) card you can put into a small system.

Modern compact cases are better designed, and all but the tiniest will happily take a 'standard' sized GPU.

      • It would be possible to put a longer gpu in my case but, in my experience with micro cases, the airflow and thermals are not ideal and the card becomes obstructive in terms of putting in storage and drive trays etc. For example, in the case of the Versa H18 micro case from Thermaltake, any GPU that extends into the SSD placement area may create an obstruction. Regardless, cases reflect the organisational and spatial preferences and priorities of their owners (if a custom build). I prefer good airflow and easy access to the components.

  • This card was really purpose built to fit Intel NUC 9 systems. It just happens to be a compelling option for other SFF builds.

  • +1

Seems like a great purchase tbh. It is within 5% of the 5700XT and still has DLSS 2.0 and some barebones raytracing capability. None of the new GPU's are going to be available for months, especially at MSRP. I don't see there being a meaningful price drop for last-gen GPU's anytime soon.

  • Bump

  • price back to $569, bought one yesterday thankfully
