US iTunes $100 Giftcard for $80 at Bestbuy (Digital Delivery)

290

Best-buy Black Friday Sales.

$100 dollar gift card cost $80 US + $5 Sales Tax for international buyers. I have tried with my Australian based Credit Card and it worked. Saved me the trouble and premium of buying from dealers for US itunes gift cards. Took 15 minutes to receive that.

Choose the online delivery option, and when check out fill in the billing address that Bestbuy has provided for International buyers, plus a US phone number you wish (basically anything you have) and pay with your Australian CC! (Note no paypal accepted).

For those who are interested in getting itunes match, please note that you need a credit card (with US billing address) on top of the giftcard to do that.

Not as good as Good Guys or 5% less than the woolie deal, but given that music and apps are cheaper, you might be better off, you guys can do the maths and feel free to comment on this.

edit: Thanks to Cryptowitz and Todger's tips, you could possibly save the $5 sales tax by entering an address in one of the states without sales tax, bringing the total down to $80. That's another saving of 5%, bringing it level with the Woolie deal.

There are a few States that dont charge the Sales Tax, including New Hampshire, Delaware, Montana, Oregon, Alaska. For the list of states without sales tax, courtesy of Todger: http://thestc.com/STrates.stm

For OP who are wondering why you are charged $6.60 for sales tax, I recommend that you check your order status again under your account. I was initially charged $6.60 for sales tax and it was later revised to $5.

Works like a charm! Cheapest I was buying from mike iTunes was $125AUD for a $100 US!

  • Dont know what address you used for the Sales tax to get $5 when I use the Texas address I get $6.60.

BTW you can order 2 X $50 cards to get same discount

Handy to know for the future so even at "normal" prices you can buy cheaper than some of the consolidators. And a tad more secure

    • did you check your order again? it was initially $6.60 but when i checked again it was revised down to $5

  • "[ For those who are interested in getting itunes match, please note that you need a credit card (with US billing address) on top of the giftcard to do that.]"
Not clear about what you mean by this?
Can I set up a US iTunes account using the just the Giftcard details - then download songs & video from the US iTunes

    • Itunes match is an addition to itunes, best see here for more details

CUPERTINO, Calif. - Apple has turned on its iTunes Match service — although it's two weeks late.
The $25-a-year subscription promises to match every song on a person's computer and store the tunes in an online account on distant servers known as the "cloud."
The songs can then be downloaded or streamed to other Apple devices without needing to physically connect them to the computer.
Songs that are not recognized can be uploaded automatically. The service promises to function with multiple computers used by the same person by eliminating duplicates.

      • thx

  • works a treat - yes 6.60 sales tax but this is still way cheaper than other online retailers - thanks hank_y

    • No worries :)

  • What benefit does this U.S giftcards have compared to the Aussie gift cards?

    • Access to the iTunes US store range of additional apps and US pricing which is often less than Aussie pricing, also iTunes match service.

If you have ever tried to download apps that are US only, its difficult to do, even free apps in the US store by default require a US credit card or US store giftcard. The OP has posted the best and most affordable way of obtaining access to the US store, it normally costs a premium on eBay and its difficult and costly to get a US pre paid debit/credit card.

      • Doesn't iTunes determine your location based on IP address?

        • You determine the store when you first log into iTunes. To access/change to the US store you would have to log out of the Australian store and select US store.

Doesnt depend on users IP address.

        • I've tried doing that, when I try to access US TV shows it still says "not available in your region".

        • @Crown, how exactly do we do that? -puzzled-

        • Which bit are you having troubles with? Which iTunes are you accesing, iTunes on a Mac/PC, or iPhone/iPad?

There is also a lot of info on google about changing stores.

      • Although as the OP rightly suggests you do need to do the sums on what you are buying. With often higher discounts offered here on itunes cards vs the US, it might be net cheaper buying here.

Books given the restrictions and pricing being dictated by the local distributors which does affect itunes bookstore prices, are far better being bought from the US, just like the hard copys are.

This deal does give you the advantage of having both stores, and as US itunes discounts are not easy to find at anytime, its a bonus. I was travelling there recently for 4 weeks and never found a discounted card.

Everything else cheap, BUT no itunes discounted cards

  • I just noticed that they sell PSN cards as well, http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+Computer+Entertainment+America+-+PlayStation+Network+Code+for+PlayStation+3+and+PSP+(%2450)+(Downloadable+Content)/1415688.p?id=1218256566354&skuId=1415688&st=psn&cp=1&lp=4

email redemption, this means digital delivery, yes?

    • email redemption, this means digital delivery, yes?

      Would say YES.

With the itunes cards you select the cards with the "(digital delivery)" in the title

      Then further down it says

      Sent via e-mail for redemption

And that is sent by email as thats how I got my codes.

Can't you use an address in Oregon? I'm pretty certain there was no state tax (at least when I was holidaying there).

    • +2

I just tried with an Oregon address and it works. Only $80 (no sales tax)
thanks to the OP for posting this bargain

crap, i just came to post that :p

Same thing applies for US itunes account. Use a tax free state (New Hampshire, Delaware, Montana, Oregon) for the address otherwise itunes will charge you sales tax on top of your purchases.

There are a few States that dont charge the Sales Tax
The States denoted White are the ones eg New Hampshire, Delaware, Montana, Oregon, ?Alaska?

      hth

      • Well lucky me cause IL aint white. I thought there was no tax on digital services.

        • heh maybe your right about digital services, but that would mean they are rorting International customers who follow their 'explicit' instructions and enter that Texas address! hmmm

  • Thanks for posting OP. I used an IL address and also paid only $80 (no sales tax)

  • Thanks to the original poster for this and to cryptowiz on the Oregon tip. I used the Oregon State Penitentiary as my address I was going to put in Charles Manson but thought I might trigger some FBI alerts so used John Doe instead.

  • this is fantastic. many thanks!

In regards to itunes match.. Do you absolutely need to supply a credit card? Is a gift card sufficient enough or does it come up and ask for your credit card details too?

    • +1

Yes it requires specifically that u need to have a CC because it automatically renews the service, a gift card is not sufficient to Apple I guess. A tip: CC from one of Australian banks can get away with the US address requirement ;)

      • A beautiful tip indeed, thanks!

  • Just letting you know that I ordered this and many hours later have still not received my code. Others are reporting indefinite delays and hours on the phone with Best Buy. Just a heads up, sounds like they are snowed over the Black Friday sales. http://www.forums.bestbuy.com/t5/Holiday-2011/iTunes-code-Di…

  • I used Best Buy's international billing address at first and was charged $2.06 tax.

  • Just tried using an Oregon address, seems to have gone through alright, thanks for posting

    • Got the code and all good, no sales tax, you beauty!

  • Is the offer gone? Cant seems to find that deal anymore. Damn missed out.

Also how do folks here change countries in iTunes? I have another account, which is US based. This creates all sorts of issues when transferring the apps during iTunes sync.

Would changing the country (ie. Aus to US) be better?

    • When you're in iTunes, scroll all the way down until you see the Australian flag in a circle. Click on that and you can find all the countries that are available. Alternatively, you could just sign in with your American Apple ID and click OK which will take you to the US store's homepage.

I personally only buy music, TV shows and movies that Australia doesn't offer. All my apps are purchased with my Australian account :)

      • Got that thanks.

Issue I've had previously with buying stuff from another account is the iTunes sync and backup. As much as I despise iTunes, I still use it for backup purposes. It seems that I cannot backup the apps from another Apple ID (makes sense I suppose).

  • Update on sales Tax.

Bestbuy sent an apology for charging the sales tax. And are going to refund the overcharge. Even better.

    Nice
