We have this machine at work and it has been doing the ground too fine issue for a while. Cant seem to clear it.
Delonghi repair centre quoted $250 for repair, IF they find more issue it could cost around $400 from what they told me
2020 couldnt get any worse
Pull out the brew chamber bit in the middle, undo one screw, scrub portafilter with toothbrush, blow with pump / compressed air if you have it..put back.
Could also be the grinder itself clogged. Only held on by a few screws and reasonably intuitive to pull apart (don't break the drive belt at the bottom).
Outer plastics are a push up to remove system. Not much to them really.
30 mins and it should be clean as new.
Have couple of hundred dollars, what's the best coffee maker within that range? Thanks
Used Rancilio Silva or Gaggia Classic for espresso, Moccamaster for drip
The kmart one, second hand on marketplace or gumtree.
I haven't come across a coffee machine that wasn't an endless money pit, especially the expensive ones. I recently threw one away that was over 10k brand new. Every few years it needed repaired, about $1500 worth. I got $1.50 for it as mixed scrap at a recycler.
Thanks for the heaps up guys !
I had this model and returned it as it did not make hot coffees with the built in milk attachment. They would be 50 degrees or less and on this model you cannot adjust temps of the milk etc. Because I paid extra for the auto milk option I decided to return it for another machine. They took it back under warranty as it was also giving inconsistent flow between the 2 nozzles on the (sort of) group head.
Thank for this - was looking around for their milk attachment heat range
There is a temp setting but not sure if that's only the coffee and not the milk.
Only coffee and it does not compensate enough for milk based drinks such as a cappuccino
I should not have been surprised really. It dispenses a full cup of milk in about 20-30 seconds (from memory). When heating using a steam wand in my current machine that takes about 60 seconds for the same amount of milk.
There is no way on this consumer machine that it could heat milk that quickly given its technology.
One of my workmates has a very expensive machine ($2k+) and that has a milk temp adjustment. I just assume it has a bigger heating block or can regulate the flow but not on this machine.
@leyton01: When I rang delonghi the rep told me that it is set to 50 degrees C because "that is the way most Italians/Europeans have their coffee"
I didn't buy that excuse.
You'll find that the main complaint with these types of machines, no matter who makes them, is that they don't make a hot coffee with milk. I've read countless reviews and that's the one common denominator if you have an auto milk machine.
I went for the Melitta Caffeo Solo & Milk machine which is all auto except you froth your own milk so you're guaranteed a hot coffee.I have a similar machine ECAM.23.460.S. The work around for hot milk based coffee is to pre-heat the cup. We initially used thin glasses and it wasn’t an issue, we changed to thick ceramic cups and they sucked the heat out of the coffee.
Hope it's better packaged for shipping than their Brita water filters :)
i had this machine for a few years now and is an excellent machine. I paid around 800ish and it takes a while to heat up. Only one boiler so, when you switch between milk and coffee it takes awhile. Also, using the frother maker you can manually heat up your milk
Don't buy it use your cash for a real Machine
Have one of these. Not hot enough. Needs 25 seconds in the microwave after brewing. There are 4 settings for heat but none make it hot enough.
Wouldnt buy another.
I black list Delonghi since while ago, had this "ground too fine error" all the time and it happens to all Delonghi machine, good luck.
