I don't think anyone has a problem with affording the xbox, its just trying to get hands on stock :(
This is the one time I wish I was a telstra customer booo

    • Says shipping December but who knows when one would receive it.

      • Yeah, it says shipping "after" December 9th, you've scared me off with that description, Telstra.

I'll just wait for Amazon to get stock again for my faster load times on basically exactly what I already have

        • -1

I bought this on Oct 22 with ships post Dec 9th as a Telstra customer and I am already sitting with the Series X beside me as it was upgraded to launch day stock. So they are definitely trying their hardest

Anyway there is no games to play I tried playing Forza for like a few minutes and felt pretty bad in my opinion. Seems like there is nothing released for it yet and also it doesn't even support 120hz in my monitor for some reason, and there are no compatiable tv even released yet. The controller has double a batteries and the console doesnt even support bluetooth which I cannot understand.

my pc is good as its used for machine learning and I bought a ps5 also, probably will both be pointless haha. I literally bought something worse than what I already have with no exclusive games. What an idiot

          • @zilver: Depending on the HDMI standard the monitor has, it may only be able to process higher refresh rate via display port or DVI

      • I got mine today

    • i am… but i have no interest in game pass ultimate. so not interested in this deal

      • -1

The Game Pass is provided in the form of a 2 year code. You could, in theory, then resell that code if you felt so inclined.

        • +1

I haven’t received any code. You have to login to your account on the Xbox and claim Game Pass from the subscriptions section. It already shows up there for you to claim. No code.

        • I was told it was a code at preorder time, but in reality it’s a digital redemption option once you’re up and running in the console menus. It can go on any account, but you must log into the machine. Very hard to resell. Also becomes inactive if you cancel your contract early.

          • @Shenannigoat: It sounds like they're doing it differently to … literally everywhere else in the world then. Very Telstra. Elsewhere on the planet, it's just a two year code.

    • My local store hooked me up with a $15/month sim, which I intend to cancel now I have the console in my hands. My account had been inactive since December. They were fine with this.

    • +1

Yeah, I find MS a tad stupid giving this deal to company who locks it in to a % of people…

  • +22

Imo most people on Telstra phone plans wont have a problem with being able to afford an xbox outright.

    • +3

It was hard to beat $45/50gb JB SIM plan when I needed Telstra's regional coverage!

    • +15

gamepass for consoles is $10.95 of value/month there so the difference is not as stark as you have made it out to be.

In the 2 years you probably would spend more than the $260 odd on games that you are paying on this monthly subscription too

EDIT: comes with gamepass ultimate which is $15.95/month, so even better value

        • +4

perhaps it doesn't constitute an absolute bargain, if you already have the money in hand, at worst you're getting to amortise the cost of your xbox over 2 years, i think that's a good deal in any one's books

if you DONT have the money to pay up front and therefore have no choice, this IS a bargain. based upon demand, i don't think we'll see significant discounts on RRP for a fair while yet.

          • -1

            @peter05: It's not a bargain if you're a PC Gamer.
I recall making a post here, years and years ago, comparing a budget build PC and it's total cost compared to the consoles. Basically you got everything better AND cheaper from the PC, but you didn't get the convenience of a console.

I think the consoles are more competitive this time (great SSD, modern CPU, mid-range GPU)… but think PCs will still edge out if you know how to allocate your budget.

            • @Kangal: Are consoles convenient anymore? Seems they have just as many updates and installation time.

              • @Jenny Death: They've certainly become less convenient. And in some ways, PC Gaming has actually become more convenient. On the whole, for your regular Pick'up'n'Play (especially on the couch) the consoles are still king.

And there's other changes, like better backwards compatibility (direct for Xbox, Streaming for PS, and Retro download for Nintendo). As for introductory pricing, they're still easier to get into. However, the PC is king here.

I mean you can build a high-end PC (eg B550, r7-5700, 16GB DDR4, RX 6700xt, 2x 1TB SSD), and you can follow some tweaks online to get the optimal visual/performance. So you would be playing next-gen games at a higher framerate, higher resolution, richer settings etc etc. And you'd be doing so on a better looking monitor that's closer to your face (also ultrawide?). Controlling it with better peripherals (ie Kbd+mouse). Not to mention you have better online multiplayer (dedicated servers?), or the option to apply Game Mods.
….on top of all that, you could:
                - multi-boot Linux for whatever reasons
                - multi-boot OS X and run a couple iPad games
                - multi-boot Android and run thousands of Mobile games
                - play thousands of current PC Games
                - play thousands of older (2000 - 2010) Windows games
                - play thousands of web/flash games
                - emulate even older DoS games
                - do high-end emulation like Nintendo Switch, Nintendo WiiU, PS3, Xbox 360
                - do medium-level emulation like PS Vita, Xbox, Wii, GameCube, 3DS, PS2
                - do low-level emulation like PSP, DreamCast, PS1, N64, DSi
                - do retro emulation like GBA, S/NES, Sega, MAME, Atari
…..so we're talking about MILLIONS of games. But yeah quantity =/= quality.

            • @Kangal: don't agree with you here. the microsoft experience has improved so much in terms of cross platform play and cross platform gaming that you can basically supplement each other with the strengths of each.

I wouldn't personally blow an additional 1.1k just to play on a different platform but i think the value proposition is there for those that want a media centre experience in the lounge. as you have pointed out in your post below, yes you can get more features with a pc but they are mostly just relegated to desktop experiences, not couch/loungeroom ones

in addition i think you will find it hard to rival the value here, the PC parts you've picked are easily double the up front cost of this deal, without considering any inclusions of games etc. If you compare a PC that is in the same price ballpark of $750 i think you'd be very hard pressed to be able to build as good an experience.

overall you're buying into a system, which guarantees games you buy are compatible and will run well. horses for courses, some customers like just knowing stuff works, others prefer to tinker.

Having said all that, it doesn't mean that this isn't a bargain, it just means that you're not the target audience. As i mentioned I think it would be difficult to out value the proposition that you could pay just $46 a month and you're literally set for gaming for 2 years, all games included etc.

              • @peter05: You just said what I said.
A PC is still cheaper though, you have to factor in the cost of games and online. It's takes a couple years, but consoles get expensive. I love gaming, but have no time for it. So a console fits me better, but even that is very casual (once a month?).

      • I got 2 year gmaepass for $36 on a previous deal using VPN. Not worth paying this much

    • +2

Its actually $30 cheaper than if you bought a Series X and had a monthly GPU sub for 24 months.

Its a much easier pill for some people to swallow, not everyone can drop $750 on a console.

    • +5

      $1104 - $360 (24months of Ultimate Game Pass) = $744 which is cheaper than other deals….

      • +9

i think it's because in your post, you don't mention that it's for xbox + game pass ultimate.

the way you have presented it, it looks like you're paying extra $350 on top of retail for an xbox, to pay it over 24 months, but actually you're paying the exact same you would have paid, IF you wanted the xbox + game pass ultimate bundle, which actually makes it better iMHO because you're splitting it over 24 months

EDIT: in addition, why dont' we turn the equation back around. would you be happy to spend $46/month for entertainment? because this bundle commits you to a huge library of games and is basically you've paid for all your entertainment for 2 years. What is is equivalent to? going once to the movies if you're going with partner, or twice if you're going with mates. seems like a decent deal. In addition you don't have to pay ~$70 for games on release. if you buy 5 games you've basically offset the value of the subscription. yes you could argue that you don't get to keep them indefinitely so this deal would appeal more to the mid=>hardcore gamers, rather than the casual ones that play 1-2 hours a week tops.

      • +1

It is not $350 over launch. You have to subtract the 24x Game Pass Ultimate & 18000 telstra points.

        • -6

But it is a bargain? No.

          • @crc32: Not a bargain.

          • +4

@crc32: But were you wrong? Yes.

            • -6

@FabMan: Do you seriously think this is a bargain?

              • +1

@crc32: Not really, but this deal isn't $350 over retail. It is $4 cheaper I believe than buying XBox Series X and Game Pass Ultimate separately. Which you can pay in installments over 2 years. You'll get stock shipped in December (apparently) and don't forget the Telstra points, for whatever they do.

      • +1

Not sure if trolling or failed to read the deal correctly; Console $750 + 24 months of Games Pass Ultimate $382.80 = $1132.80 vs deal total cost $1108 over 24 months

Saving of $28.80 plus ability to pay in installments

OP should probably mention that it's only available to existing Telstra customers though

        • -6

Not trolling just pointing out that it's not a bargain.

          • @crc32: No, you incorrectly pointed out that it's $350 above retail

            • -6

              @blonky: Well, yes I did but I also pointed out that it's not a bargain…and it's not a bargain.

    • +2

Can we appreciate for OP posting for those who can't afford full amount upfront.

      Thanks OP

      • -6

Can we appreciate it not being a bargain?

        • Can you show how to get an XBox Series X shipped in December, Game Pass Ultimate and 18000 Telstra points cheaper than this?

          • -2

@FabMan: Can you point out to me how availability and being tied to Telstra for 24 months makes it a bargain?

            • @crc32: You aren’t tied. You can pay at any time

            • +2

@crc32: It is still cheaper by a few dollars than buying them separately so technically a deal, unless you can show a better deal? This is below RRP of individual purchases.

Paying in installments does work out cheaper when you consider by the 24th month due to inflation the $46 will be worth less than the first month. Plus your money could get a whopping 0.5% interest per annum sitting in the bank.

Actually having a product versus not having product has no effect on a deals worth to you? .

              • +1

@FabMan: No point explaining to this hobo who doesn't appreciate

    • All the console dads and mums downvoted lol

  • -2

This deal will get a lot of downvotes because its over RRP but damn man at this point i would sell my left arm for a series X right now, I cant wait till next year :(

    • Can't decide XSX or PS5 :|
      Can't get both.

      • +1

If i didn't have the xbox one x I would have got the PS5 because I like the look but I've already committed to buying 3 years of game pass on VPN and games so imma stuck

      • +5

        Do it, buy both 😁

        • +5

          Wife won't be happy :-)

          • +3

@congo: Buy a new wife on your spending spree

          • +7

@congo: Say one is next gen router.

          • +1

@congo: Same, its a tough call this time. I'm leaning playstation as that's what I did last time, and nothing i can see in the next year or 2 that's exclusive to Xbox is enough to win me over. But i do think there might be some interesting titles after that and game pass is tempting even if i think it is overrated.

          • +4

@congo: Put the ps5 on top of the XSX and say that it's just a stand

      • -1

Im usually an Xbox man, but think I'll go with the ps5 due to being able to upgrade the SSD to any brand as long as it's speeds are compatible.

Xbox can only be upgrade with a proprietary SSD which has put me of the xbox as I'm sure it will cost more to upgrade

        • -1
          • +2

@Jamiea: Full speed disk reading has always been like this. It only happens for game installs. Just care whether they speed it up for faster installs.

          • @Jamiea: I shall, I'm smart enough to wait for a later series ps5 console as I'm sure both Xbox and ps5 will have problems in their first generation of consoles

        • +1

The Xbox can use any SSD, just that Series X|S games can only be played off internal storage or the proprietary SSD. Xbox One games can be played off any SSD or HDD you plug in as long as it's USB3.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: …which ruins the fast loading times.

            • +1

@Zorlin: Watch the Digital foundry video that tests external SSD load times. It’s very competitive with native load times even though the games aren’t optimised with the velocity architecture. I’m hoping for external ssd sales soon.

              • +1

@Valowick: Digital Foundries stuff in general is excellent for clarifying relative features and dispelling myths.

        • That is a good point.. hmm..

          • @congo: You don't need to worry about SSD for now. For PS5, there aren't enough next gen games yet and there is only 1 NVMe SSD that claims to be PS5 compatible so far.

We've only seen Sony's internal SSD in action on next gen games (very impressive). For Series X, we've only seen Quick Resume so far (and it is quite good, especially if you switch between games a fair bit). It would be good for Sony to implement Quick Resume (to benefit legacy PS4 games), but I doubt Sony will. I've used Quick Resume on external USB HDD and it's pretty good. Sure, you still need to load the game once, but subsequent switch back to the game loads from SSD cache.

If you can only get one, I suggest you consider waiting for more next gen games becoming available and then decide. Right now, on my Series X, as I traded in most of my games to reduce the amount I need to pay for the new console, and most of the games I wanted to play on GamePass Ultimate, I already played previously on XBox One X, I am playing games in my not so exciting backlog on Series X. No USB-C cable, no voucher codes for XBox Live Gold, GamePass or GamePass Ultimate.

No ETA on my PS5 pre-order will be available for me to pick up yet.

      • +3

I've been with xbox since the 360, but I think I'm considering more and more the the PS5 because of its new controller…

      • +2

I'm getting the PS5 because I already have a pretty awesome gaming PC and there doesn't appear to be any exclusives that are coming to the Xbox that isn't going to the PC too. Gamepass working on the PC also is a pretty great deal.

        • I rocked both Microsoft and Sony until ps3, consolidated with ps3 for the exclusive games (liked them more) and did same PS4……wound up with a used xbox one off a mate and after comparing game pass to my ps plus options + the pc/xbox shared environment I wound up selling my PS4 and am sticking with xbox for the X.
Guess it’s each to their own but I really like the value the game pass provides, especially after doing the VPN 3 year deal on here. PS plus just didn’t cut it with the limited games per month etc.
But yeah only issue for my is stock and no real launch game on series X that makes the upgrade a must & I will miss Spider-Man Myles Morales!!! That looks great.
But I do want the faster load times on any current or previous gen games!
Also bought a 5 tb external drive to store game pass games, intending to shift the games I’m playing onto the SSD. I usually only play 2 game’s at once so that should keep functional.
Just gotta make one of these damn stock windows!!

      • PS5 is a must-buy for me for the exclusives and I'm really psyched about the controller.

The XBox SeX hasn't proven to be one so far. Still a fantastic piece of kit and that All Access deal is just amazing but there hasn't been a "holy crap I need that" moment for it. If I didn't have a chunky PC I might feel differently.

    • -6

It will get zero down votes because people here have a very odd definition of what bargain is.

      • +3

At least you get many downvotes because people have an accurate definition of what a troll is

    • The downvotes are strong today! I didn't even downvote the deal so why hate on me lol… booo

      • Because it’s under RRP.

    • +3

It's not over RRP. The $1104 total includes the console ($750) and 24 months of Game Pass Ultimate (~$380).

      • +1

I get that and I don't have a problem with the deal. But I'm going to assume that based on how popular the VPN deals for game pass ultimate are on here you won't be paying full retail value for ultimate. But if you don't use the VPN deal then this is a ripper deal, if u are with telstra

    • eh, i don't think its that bad, its a fraction more spread out over 2 years, making it easier for some, ill probably try get one through this in Dec/Jan

  • +2

December shipment thats a pretty good deal too with the ultimate pass. I would actually pre order one right now if I wanted an xbox series X

  • +2

Mine just arrived today. Good deal.

    • Mine just arrived too. Just finished setup, downloaded 3 games, updated Watch Dogs Legion and ready to go all night. What a lovely machine indeed.

      • May I ask when you guys/girls ordered the deal? Placed my order recently and wanted to get a realistic timeline.

        • I placed mine on the first minute of the first preorder day.

  • +4

If you're desperate for the XBox you'd be better off getting this deal and terminating immediately for $763.79 (1 month + $717.92 remaining on your console) than being tied to Telstra moibile for 24 months.

    • Minimum cost is $1104, not $763.79?

      • +4

Minimum cost is over 24 months. The $763.79 is the early termination fee.

        • Sorry you're correct - just read the CIS.

Not a bad deal in that case

          • +1

@antigravity83: Better than being tied to Telstra for 24 months.

            • @crc32: Yeah I'm with Telstra at the moment, but will leave when my contract expires soon… Hmmm…

        • early termination fee and you keep the console???
pretty good considering theres no stock available

          • @bennoz: Telstra doesn't have stock on hand either, it's a pre-purchase.

  • Technically it's a $37 saving over buying the console outright at RRP and two 12 month subscriptions at full retail.

    • +4

      $27.80 by my calculations.

      • -6

I'm getting downvoted for correct maths now.

  • +2

    OK

So I think this is a pretty good deal, outside of needing to be with Telstra (has anyone checked if a work phone is enough?)

Telstra 24X $46 = $1104 (~$1,100.83 PV ish - rates are low and term is short - it makes SFA difference)
    Outright Series X = $749 + 24 months upfront Game Pass $393.95 = $1142.95 (edit - paying 24 months at once is not value!)

So its a discount if you are paying full freight on GamePass and/or the series X which I assume we all will in the short term anyway!

    • 15.95×24 = 382.8

    • I was told that even if you port out of Telstra, your All Access Contract shouldn’t be affected. Confirmed it over email and chat.
