Purchased similar like this few days ago.
$14.90 60Gb 90 days plan. Wish I wait until today.
    Anyway it’s a good deals.

    • +1

Any idea of the chances they'll update this plan/activation code automatically for this deal? I just bought the 60Gb/$14.90 deal and it hasnt even been delivered yet…

      • +1

I asked them the same question since I am still waiting for the SIM card to arrive for the 60GB plan. They said they can't upgrade the plan but they can cancel it (and refund me later) and I just have to place the order for the new plan.

        • +1

Makes sense as it's a different plan completely.

    • "evo" don"t dispare, first time I have seen this deal ever come up as far as I know. So no one saw this one comming.

Good deal as saves portig after 30 days for some sim hoppers.

  • +1

    omg kogan no.1

  • +1

Bummer, my Boost plan ends mid January. Wonder if I should just port over a month early to nab this deal or wait for another between now and then.

  • Is it limited to 40GB per 30 days or can I use as much of the 120GB as I want in a month?

    • +3

      40/month

  • Wait so can I get it added on to my current number?

    • +1

If you are with Kogan already, then you can't add this. Its for NEW customers only.

      • +2

I read on here that if you've ported put of them for >30 days you're considered a new customer again, do you know if this is true?

        Edit: answered below, sorry

  • Previous VIC deal worked on subsequent recharges despite requiring new customer, are new Kogan deals now strictly on new service only?

    • +2

That was an exception to the rule, these are nearly always only possible to apply to a new service.

      • Thanks

  • +1

Vodafone is notoriously slow where I live, I'd rather have Boost. YMMV.
Good deal though if you like Vodafone.

    • +1

      Thanks, I like Vodafone

    • If you live or use your phone in areas that have good coverage then Voda is good value with these deals.
If you are not it can be painful. I find Optus (Catch Connect) to be far better.

  • Still have an additional voucher from previous purchase (I didn't realise when you order 2 vouchers only 1 sim is sent). Anyway to get a free sim? Trying to save the $2

    • i chatboxed them saying i never received the first sim, they happily sent out another one for free. 2 days later my original sim arrived too. oh wells. aust post being extremely slow now? so the spare sim is doing nth really atm for me.

    • I’ve ordered multiple vouchers plenty of times before, they’ve always sent one sim per voucher.

  • Am new to the porting in/out process with Kogan and reading previous threads have left me confused;

What's the current best way for someone who is currently on Kogan on one of these 90 day plans (which is expiring next week) to get into this deal?

    Thanks

    • +1

port out to any other deals (e.g. amaysim 1 month) then port back to kogan after 30 days.

      • Do we need to register with Kogan with a new email address?

Also, we get to port in back with the same phone number right?

        • +2

Neither you have to, can be the same email, can be same or different number, if the same number should need to port out for 30 days.

      • +1

amaysim offer only 28 days plan :(
Is this still enough or does it have to be 30 days exact?

        • I'm not sure how strict it is, but you can port 2 days after the plan expire, just disable auto recharge.

        • 30 days exactly

  • How long the porting normally take?

    • took me 5 mins…..

    • yeah took me <5 mins also.

  • Trying to buy this now (10:30ish 9/11) but Kogan not taking credit card payment from either of my two cards, sigh…

  • When you purchase the voucher. I see you get an email stating:

" Please visit the Activation Centre to redeem your voucher. Your SIM card will be on its way soon"

Is it ok to redeem it once the SIM arrives? I'm porting over.

    • correct

      • Sorry another question if you know. I have the SIM card now.

I read in the email this is a 'port over plan'. So I need an existing mobile number to port from? It is odd that the activation page gives me the option:

Would you like to use a new number or bring an existing number from another provider?

Wondering what would happen if I choose "use a new number"?

  • +1

    What happens after 90 days?

    • +12

      visit ozBargain

    • Port out

    • Why isn't this specified in the deal or on the Kogan website.

There is literally NO information that tells you how what happens after 90 days!

do they just charge your credit card $139.90 for the next 90 days?

      • +2

turn off auto recharge you will be fine

      • +1

This is why they offer cheap plans like this. It's up to you to go to your account settings and disable auto recharge.
        It's not hard.

  • Hah almost fell for this, I'm trying to churn off Vodafone, I'm sick of their coverage.

    • Works great for some, depends on your location.

  • +1

30 days plan will have 60GB soon.

  • Cheers OP, fits in perfectly with my Boost swap on the 10th Dec :)

    • As above but my one finishes on the 17th
Boost was good but noticed calling out wouldn't call out most of the time.

  • +1

Now Catch is gone what's the best deal to go back and forth with?

    • +1

Didn't realise they said bye to their cheapo deals. Sad :(

      • +3

They realised people are bouncing back and forth between Kogan and Catch lol

Just buy cheap starter packs from Woolies, Coles and Aldi when they come up. I've been churning every month, works fine.

    • +1

I tend to churn now through belong (when on sale) catch 30 day and kogan 90 day….haven't come unstuck yet.

      • +9

        $14.90 = 3 months = Kogan 120Gb
$20.00 = 3 months = Belong 82Gb ($40 SIM on special) - note this can be stretched to 4 months if you don't need a decent hit of data
        $14.90 = 3 months = Kogan 90Gb (assume normal size)
        $20.00 = 3 months = Belong 82Gb

        $69.80 = 12 months, 374Gb

        • Thank you that's brilliant

          • @BizzleBargains: Free 4 Months Circles.life - 80 GB
            Free 2 Months Amaysim - 60GB
            1 Month Lycamobile - $1 30GB
            Optus 1 Month- $5- 35GB Data
            Kogan 3 months- 9.90= 60GB
            1 Month Vodafone- 9.90 =50GB

            12 Months= $26, 315GB

            • @AnirudhD: Replace optus and vodafone with kogan $4.95 - 40GB.

            • @AnirudhD: you are king now

            • @AnirudhD: How does one get four months for free with Circles.Life? When they launched in September 2019, sure, there was a four-month free trial period. But now, in November 2020 (and beyond), I am not aware of any four month free access to Circles.Life.

Likewise, how does one now in November 2020 get two months free with Amaysim?

Lycamobile's offer ($1 for the Unlimited Plan S, 40GB for 28 days) expired at the end of September 2020, so I do not now how you are getting it now. Please share!

              • @new2onlineshopping: I just gave a glimpse of how I am scoring heaps of data without spending much. I started my Circles.life service from Dec 2019 and then moved to Amaysim for 2 months - I had an electricity connection with them so they gave it to me as a complimentary offer. I just do sim hopping now and then.

    • +2

I’ve reverted to Belong as the Catch alternative, works out pretty similar.

    • vodafone optus and lebara goes on special for new customers at coles and woolwoorths all the time grab a $5 sim for a month port out and port in again after a month

    • Depends what you mean by 'best'. If you mean 'with porting' then my 'best' solution is to… stop porting.

      a) Get $4.90/40GB/30 day Kogan SIMs every month and take the new number on the new SIM. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/543472

      b) Port to Amaysim. While you still have credit, login to your account and change to the "As You Go" plan. It costs $10 per year to keep active. Set it to debit your bank account/Paypal automatically. Continue giving out that number for incoming calls. But use the monthly $4.90 SIMs above for outgoing calls. So people still call you on the same number, but you call them on the new Kogan SIM/s every month. Send an SMS explaining it's you to the few people who don't answer unknown numbers. They'll get the idea eventually. (If not it might be time to get friends with higher IQs, or who respect your hobby of keeping more of your money for yourself.)

So Amaysim is for incoming calls, and Kogan is for outgoing calls and data.

Doing 'b' also means you then have 2x SIMs on 2x different networks. So if one goes down you can still make calls on the other. And if you (cough - me) forget to buy a new Kogan SIM before the previous one expires, you still have internet access with Amaysim to order/activate the next Kogan SIM (though obviously you might wind up paying Amaysim more than $10/year if you forget enough times).

      • How does voicemail work here?

        • +1

Sorry I'm not sure what you mean because I don't use it. Maybe this has the answer? https://www.amaysim.com.au/help/mobile/getting-started/how-t… - unless you meant do you still have access to voicemail, which = yes, because Amaysim would be your permanent number for incoming calls, it costs nothing to access voicemail, and you'd only pay more than the $10 per year if you call out or use data on their SIM.

          • @[Deactivated]: Amaysim link says voicemail access isn't free.

" If you’re on AS YOU GO you’ll be charged at the low rate of 15c/min for Voicemail access."

            • @Cheaparoo: Oh ok. Can you record your own message on voicemail? If so change that once a month and give the new Kogan number (if Kogan has voicemail too). e.g. Maybe record something like: "This voicemail is temporarily borked. You can leave voicemail at xxxx-xxx-xxx instead. Please note this second number is only temporary until my main voicemail is fixed. So don't change my number in your phone. That number again is xxxx-etc."

I just either answer calls, or leave voicemail disabled and turn my phone off when I'm unable to answer it. Callers receive a recorded message saying the phone is offline and to call back later. (I wish everyone did that. If I phone someone it's because I want to talk to them. Then. Not left hanging in limbo wondering when or if they'll call back.) ;-)

      • About to sign over to Amaysim $10. I can't find details regarding the sim card, do they send a new sim out? or does it just change over with current physical sim card.

        • Yeah they send a SIM. (If it ever arrives. I ordered one ten days ago.) I think I read in another thread you can get a SIM from the supermarket instead for $2 if you need it earlier (assuming they didn't activate it, that you selected 'port' instead). Probably find them at the help desk, not on the SIM/gift card racks.

  • Just wondering, can I have more than 1 service with kogan? As I just ported my number to kogan last week and want to porting my 2nd number with this deal.

  • amaysim offer only 28 days plan :(
Is this still enough or does it have to be 30 days exact?

    • 28 days, accurate to the minute.
So, if you activate 01-Dec-2020 at 11:00AM, your plan expires 29-Dec-2020 at 10:59AM.

      • Making it 13 amaysim months in a year.

  • Almost all operators are increasing data allowance across plans. General rule of increased data consumption Y-o-Y.
120GB is excellent. Probably the way forward for all telcos. Amaysim and Lebara too have bumped up their sub-$30 plans to 50GB from 30GB. All higher plans have increased data allowance as well.

  • My amaysim plan is expiring today, so I have ordered this one. How many days does this usually take to arrive?

It's showing in the account Expected dispatch date: 18 November 2020

    • You might have already got the 'voucher' in your email. This is to be used during activation. Usually Kogan SIMs may take 5-7 working days for delivery depending on your area. However, you may buy a $2 SIM from 7/11 or Colesworth and activate it right-away using the voucher you have got in your email.

  • +1

I guess this is good to port out of Telstra with and then port back in a few months down the track if one of those good cash back things pop up…

    • +1

Sure is, or you could just sim slut around forever and save even more money.

      • …. This is also likely hahaha

      • Or even cheaper, and easier: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/579525#comment-9584823

        You'd pay $14.41 for the same 120GB over 3 months instead of $14.90. Use a different email address for each new Kogan order and get 2% cashback from Cashrewards. So $4.90 x 3 = $14.70, but $14.70 x 0.98 (2% cashback) = $14.41. Or $14.41 divided by 3 = $4.80 per 30 days for 40GB.

My linked post shows how to end the hassle of checking dates and SIM hopping. Option b is what I do now. It's easier, less stress trying to find where to hop to next, stops paying more on months when there are no cheap SIM hops to be had, and beats 99% of the deals posted here (except for rare one-off deals like the $0.99 SIMs that sometimes come up once a year).

And the Amaysim $10 for 12 months = $0.82 per 30 days. Total cost of both = Kogan $4.80 + Amaysim $0.82 = $5.62 per 30 days. You keep the same phone number (if needed). No SIM hopping. No checking expiry date. No buying more expensive plans when nothing is available. All you have to do is stay with Amaysim and order new Kogan $4.90 SIMs for data.

        • Can we substitute Amaysim $10 Optus network with ALDI $5 limited Telstra network for a $5 saving? Or is that problematic?

          • @henestto: I haven't looked at Aldi lately, but I do recall there was some reason Amaysim was better for what I do/described above. But considering Amaysim just sold to Optus, maybe I should look again lol.

You'd have to compare. But I think from memory you can keep a number active on the $5 Aldi SIM for a year without recharging? If yes that means you have a $5 SIM for incoming calls, which is cheaper than the Amaysim $10 per year. But what happens if you forget to activate a few Kogan SIMs before the previous one runs out of data? You need a way to go online to activate Kogan SIMs. It's ok if you have another way to get online. But it LOOKS like with Aldi, once your $5 runs out, you have to purchase a recharge. Their cheapest recharge appears to be $15 and lasts 30 days. If this is all correct, then Amaysim would be better because any Amaysim credit lasts 12 months.

Edit: Oh and I think at the time Aldimobile data was 5 cents per MB. Amaysim data probably costs similar. The $10 Amaysim credit is obviously twice Aldi $5, so has twice the data. Again it takes about 20MB to activate a Kogan SIM. So $5 Aldi has about 100 Kogan activations worth. But I probably figured an extra $5 was worth it over 12 months, to have a buffer if I needed to use a little data to order a pizza now and again, not need to recharge so soon, and no porting out and back in after a year.

    • My thoughts exactly!

  • This and Boost the only two prepaid options that include visual voicemail, correct?

I don't think I could go back to dialing up a number and receiving sms notifications of voicemail like a god damn pleb.

  • Anyone going to be the recharge guinea pig and see if it works on existing plans? :D

  • +1

Would be perfect if it was 120GB all usable at once.

    • It's virtually the same cost as 3x $4.90/40GB/30 day Kogan SIMs. So just use those. (See my two posts above.)

      • I bet 30 days plan will have a data increase later when 90 days plan is sold to its target number. Hold on If do not urgently need it.

Telsim has a plan of 60GB/28days for $5 atm, which is a good reason for others to match up.

        • Yes. You'd only order Kogan SIMs as you need them. Order during business hours and you have a new activation code in minutes. I only priced 3x SIMs to show the costing for the same ~3 month period.

Can the $5 Telsim be ordered over and over again (does a new order/SIM = new account/customer)?

  • Do you need to use 40 GB first month? or can I use 120 GB 2nd & 3rd months?

    • no - its 40gb per month - no rollover

  • When is this on sale until? Can you buy it right up until 15/12/2020?

  • Telstra should never have been privatised.

Changing providers to be ripped off is terrible customer service and the incredibly low productivity in a foundational sector like telcocommunications where every household and every business is affected has severely damaged the economy to use thew words of Professor Rodney Sims, ACCC head.

  • No0b question here: I'm on the 1 year Kogan $120 80gb plan, which doesn't run out for another 200 days yet (80gigs is heaps for a year for me, as I work from home and just use the NBN mostly). I guess that means I've gotta suck eggs and sit on that til it runs out.. No porting for me.. Is that right?
