  • Can be had significantly cheaper from China.

  • Around this price quite regularly on Amazon not sure it’s a great bargain. Then it got me wondering if it’s at all accurate or just a random number generator. After some research I purchased this one from AliExpress for around $20.

There's no need to make them produce random numbers, pulse oximeters are very cheap to produce.

I've had patients come into the emergency because their new cheap oximeter was showing them scary numbers. There's really no point in buy oximeters unless you understand how to use them …

      • Many are cheap and quite often inaccurate. They need to indicate a profusion index to ensure the reading is even close to accurate.

    • Not random numbers but Contec make a variety of oximeters - some are more accurate than others. The tech evolves and quality of components and the underlying software varies. The one you linked is fairly basic.

      • Yeah basic but seems to be some good evidence it actually gives an accurate result and ultimately that’s what you want. No point have a non basic one that gives the wrong results. I’ve not found and evidence real saying whether the zacurate is accurate.

        • I wasn't suggesting the zacurate is any more accurate. I'd say they're fairly similar. Look up oximeters used for altitude training and why a perfusion index is important. Same deal when testing for hypoxia. Low perfusion at the site can give completely inaccurate readings. Units with a Pi are only a bit more expensive but provide significantly more confidence in the report.

  • Anyone know if these work with Sleep As Android?

      It's not a Bluetooth monitor, so no…

Just a note for anyone who wants to buy this for their little one, it will work but they have another model with a smaller finger chamber for under 12s.

    • finger chamber

      🤔😂

  • I would recommend avoiding any oximeter without a perfusion index reading. This unit isn't much use if it shows a false positive when you're experiencing hypoxia.

  • Any recommendations for the ones with Pi reading and shipping from Australia?
