    Crazy Deal:

    Contract = $348 - $25 = $323 (25CREDIT)
    Sell Phone = $300~

    You've only paid $23 for a 12 month, $29 contract !

    • -2

I don't understand. You want to SELL the phone and KEEP the Vodafone contract.

It should be the other way around. You buy the phone at a total cost of $348 & throw away the vodafone sim-card.

      • +2

Huh, you would keep the phone and throw away the SIM?? I will give you $10 for the plan!!!! Clearly you are not a bargain hunter, as you would throw $180 a month of free calls down the drain!

    • +1

      Nah..!

$329 unlocked & delivered on eBay.

No contracts or other jumping through hoops with useless Vodafail.

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HTC-DESIRE-Z-ANDROID-MOBILE-PHONE…

It's only a deal if MBC works.

    • +1

You reckon this phone could be sold for $300? Good deal though.

  • +3

Is this a better phone than the Incredible S or the Nexus S, as described in previous Ozbargain deals?
E.g. an option for me is to buy the Nexus S for $250 (after moneybackco) and pair that with the Woolworths mobile offer. That works out to $350 for a "one year plan", with more data than on Vodafone.

    • Have you held this ? No I presume…, nuf said ! ;)

    • it's slower and smaller. Desire Z is only 800Mhz and crappy screen. Physical keyboard is the only redeeming factor

      • Ignorance…, Read up Lad / Youtube is ur best friend too… !

      • So doing as Elijah recommends and selling the phone locked to Vodafone for $300 is extremely optimistic.

        • Unlocking is Free for "pretty much" everything on a VODAFAIL Cap !… ;)

        • Post paid phone, easily unlockable, free, at vodafone website.

      • What he (Spawnpoint) said is correct, I don't understand the negs.

The hummingbird chipset in the Nexus S is alot better than cpu/gpu in this.

      • I just got my Nexus S and it kind of has a crappy screen, my old HTC HD Mini has a better one.

    • I was about to do the same and actually have stocked enough Woolworths vouchers for a year. I even called Vodafone this evening to cancel my contract, as my HTC legend 12 month plan ends next month. Hehe, i may end up with another HTC.

      • How did u cancel your contract with 2 months pending? Do you pay extra for breaking it?

        • I called to cancel, but in the end was told i just need to port out before the last billing date (which is 15 Dec for me) and the contract with Vodafone will then be automatically end.

        • Sorry, i should have said that my plan actually ends on 14 Dec. So i am already in the last billing month.

        • lol. thanks for telling me that. I was about to call vodafone to cancel my contract which is ending after 2 months.

    • I'd say not as good as the nexus, unless you specifically want the physical keyboard. That being said, it's still an excellent phone, and outstanding value at this price. It is a fairly heavy phone (and quite thick due to the keyboard), however.

  • +6

    "25CREDIT" promo code still works

    • +1

"SAVE10" will save you more, if you already have a plan with Vodafone.

      • What about NRMA discount?

  • How does this compare to Motorola Mile Stone 2?

    • Weaker processor (800MHz vs 1GHz), but the Desire Z can be overclocked to 1.8GHz (stable at 1.7GHz) which is crazy huge. It's also cheaper than the Optus deal.

      • The CPU is still a SnapD with an Adreno 205 GPU(Most expensive gaming phones use…), the S-LCD is sharper does appear brighter and less saturated, but more responsive and clear !, the camera is superb, the build is fantastic,

Simply buy it and you'll know and I doubt you will want to sell it tho !

P.S I couldn't afford this last year or so…, bought the Defy ! lol

        • || Adreno 205 GPU(Most expensive gaming phones use…)

Are you living in the past by some chance? Tegra 2(ULP GeForce GPU), Mali 400, SGX 540, SGX 543.. Those are some of the better GPUs. Not Adreno 205. lol.

        • looks like Elijah has this phone. Raven is right, the adreno 205 is last year's tech. Even the newer Adreno 220 used in the sensation is better(obviously)

        • -3

@Raven Is that relative to this price bracket ?, SHOW ME ONE ! then talk the talk…

E.g hav u heard of the "Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY"… ?

If I already had this phone, why would I buy it again ? lol

        • +2

          yes

          (Most expensive gaming phones use…)

better GPU than this Adreno 205. Stop contradicting yourself. The price bracket you just stated was most expensive phones which are th Galaxy Note, Galaxy Nexus and the iPhone 4S, all which use much better GPUs

        • +2

          @Elijah:
In this price bracket Nexus S has a better CPU and GPU.

    • Milestone 2 is an absolute horror to use. I've owned one of these and it was really terrible. You would be better off with the Desire Z.

      • I had the Milestone previously, good build quality, but RUBBISH TFT screen !

        Milestone 2 = Battery Drunk ! & Not worth it…

  • Can anyone confirm that MBC still works?

    • Yes, $84 cashback would make this a deal.

      Otherwise…

  • Just bought. this is a very good deal, regardless of whether MBC pulls through :)

  • is the included 200MB a one-off or per-month?

    • +1

      That's per month.

  • Good phone, but I will NEVER go near Vodafone again

  • Great phone, I have it for a year now and cannot complain about it. I used friends Nexus but still liked Desire Z. It's camera (especially for video recording) is amazing. Keyboard is a plus.

Just another elaboration if it helps its LCD is separate then the front touch screen (unlike many other phones). If anything goes wrong its easy to change it. Once I stood on it and broke LCD, front touch stayed intact. All I had to do was order LCD on ebay for 32$ delivered, watch a video on YouTube and change the LCD on my own.

On Vodaphone I believe update is available for 2.3.3 otherwise you can always use one of the images available online.

  • Not compatible with the new 850 network I presume?

  • Damnit. If i could have gotten some confirmation about moneybackco, would get this instantly :S

  • the phone plan $29 * 12= $348
if you are existing vodafone, you can get 10% off, so $2.9 *12 = $34.8, then the total cost down to $313.2
if you can combined with $25 credit bonus, then the total cost down to $288.2
and if you can claim $84 from mbc, then total cost down to $204.2

finally, if you can sell above $204.2 on ebay after ebay cost, then it is your profit + benefit using the sim card credit

    • +1

I don't think you can use both SAVE10 and 25CREDIT, as only one promotion code can be used.

      • that's why i said "IF"

  • Planning to buy it.

Anyone here tried to use the MBC rebate? does it work?

    Thanks

  • How does this compare with the HTC Sensation? It's been reduced down to $0 as well but on a 24 month $29 plan with 1 month free. If you weren't worried about being locked in for 24 months (which is a big stipulation I agree) would anyone recommend it?

I'm currently with Optus on a $10 BYO plan with various bundled things and am yet to make the leap to a touchphone or to another carrier. It's either get a new phone or buy myself up on woolworths prepaid for the next year!

  • I called Vodafone, as I had 2 month on my 24 month plan. After hesitation they cancelled the plan, to renew for 12 month. Together with 800MB plan for 4$ I am quite happy with the result.
