Best price I have seen, camels seem to agree, sold by Amazon AU.
Surely someone out there needs 24 cores to run a bunch of VM's or something….
EDIT: Down to $1,150.39

Will it run minecraft?
It'll host a minecraft server with 30 players and 30 chunk render distance. Maybe.
I'm 99% sure it can do much more than 30 players haha
Edit: Did I just get swooshed? I think I did..
Just a bit
cheaper than 2950X!
Not worth it at all. The 5950X Australia RRP is $1249. It has a near identical Cinebench multi-core score, and over 30% higher single-core score in Cinebench.

Maybe higher like $1350 for 5950x? As 3950x was $1250 for couple months after release.
Possibly given demand will likely be very high at first, but honestly still worth it, given the huge increase in IPC performance. It just makes a lot more sense to buy the the new Ryzens.
Unless you need crazy high PCIE lane count you’re spot on.
@[Deactivated]: spot on mate.
Depends on the build. For a server/workstation build I would probably get the 2970x over the 5950x because of the number of pcie lanes it supports (64 vs 40). Running multiple HBA cards, SSDs, GPUs would be pushing it on a 5950x.
64 PCIe 3.0 lanes vs 40 PCIe 4.0 lanes, big difference in bandwidth there.
Comparing TR4 and am4 isn't the same. TR4 will have more pcie lane support and quad channel ddr (up to 8 dimms) Workstation oriented.
TR4 is only PCIe 3.0 though. If it was TRX4, I would definitely agree with you.
With memory bandwidth, I cant really say. We need to see some more benchmarks to say for sure.
I figured someone with a lesser Threadripper & TR4 board would be interested.
Hmmm yeah okay that is a fair point. Could be a good deal for someone looking to upgrade an existing TR4 system.
If only AMD released 5970x, would be the best of both worlds. Otherwise 5950X looks certainly better in most cases. The only few cases I can think about 2970WX to have advantages - to put more RAM or 4 GPUs, AM4 motherboards with 4 slots or more are rare.
Does it support MMX Technology
No. It’ll struggle doing anything you throw at it which requires MMX. Recommend you look at AMD K6-2
What an oddly specific, old-tech question haha. You piqued my curiosity!
Exit: lol K6.
No need for a video card then?
Mmm maybe not, but the 3990X can do without a gpu!

That's a very fair price, but I'm hoping 3970x will be on sale on cyber Monday.
I'm pretty sure 5950x will have at least the same level of multi-thread performance and much much stronger single thread. Also, X570 can beat X399's connectivity. The only advantage of 2970WX in my opinion is up to 8 memory slots. I'm using 3960X at the moment.
EPYC Milan should drop shortly, Threadripper 5000 series due for launch Q2 next year, so April-June timeframe. Significant improvements in efficiency, IPC, clockspeed and even a bump in core count, along with PCIe 4.0. If you absolutely gots to have something in the next few months, then this isn't a bad deal. But the step up to the 5000 series will be well worth the wait IMO.
Now $1,136.91
I like.
