3090 is $1500 more than 3080 so pricing is fair if not cheaper in relative term compare to the 3080 variants posted yesterday

Actually, Crysis which was the original inspiration for the joke was originally released in 2007.

Worth noting that the 3090 FE edition runs cooler than the 3080 (according to reports) so this card may lead to a quieter but more powerful system, comparatively speaking. I wouldn’t buy though as the Big Navi GPUs will be announced tomorrow, and new AMD cpus shortly thereafter. Plus a custom built pc will end up cheaper dollar wise.

    • +2

In regards to custom built PC. I think someone did rough math and if you go without LED's it ends up being like $300-400 cheaper and you have to build it yourself with no warranty and no windows.

      • +7

What the hell are you talking about? Every single custom PC I've built has warranty on every single part and also have windows.

        • +8

Yes you have warranty on individual parts, not on the entire PC. If it malfunctions it is up to you to remove the part and return it to be repaired.

Perhaps what you are saying is you own windows and you installed it on your custom PC. I find it hard to believe your hard drive you bought from Amazon came with Windows installed in it.

          • +6

@MrMoo: Removing the part is easy. Figuring out which one to remove on the other hand, hours of fun!

            • @TheContact: That is ultimately the worst part about building your own PC. If you end up getting a dud piece from the start it'll set you back a lot of time trying to figure out which one.

          • +2

@MrMoo: I'd rather only have to return a single part for warranty than having to take my entire computer back with the high possibility of them wiping the data too "just because".

Also I meant physical Windows, no it doesn't come pre-installed with Windows. But I've been using the same Windows 7 key for who knows how long.

            • +1

@Tacooo: It comes with 1 year on site warranty. Which means they will come to you to fix it. No need to ship entire PC Back.

Fair enough, most people already do own a copy of windows, but for some, especially those who are upgrading and don't know how to build their own PC. They won't be able to figure out how to install windows on boot up. You would be surprised what people can't do lol. I used to work experience in a PC store about 10 years ago. People would come in because their PC was slow, you would basically defrag and virus scan and charge them $100 lol.

          • @MrMoo: Our household has both an Alienware Aurora laptop and M15R3. Dell service is fantastic. LED's glitched out and they sent some out to replace the whole front panel. I can vouch for their service so far.

        • +5

A custom PC with this calibre would probably cost $4500, but you're missing the on site next business day support and Alienware is still Alienware for a reason

A 3900x and 3090 from Techfast is already $4249 but only has 16 GB RAM and no extra HDd with repair taking a month if something wrong occurs, well worth the extra dollar for Dell

          • @ln28909: But how often do things go wrong? Honest question as I’m wanting a gaming pc for ms 2020, after being on a Mac for a decade.

            • @JeBs: Same as buying any sort of insurance, you should never want to claim it, it just there for you to be covered

Like say for example the 3080 were having random crashes but a software update fix it, if it were a hardware problem then you wouldn't be in good shape with Techfast

Though I would say, if you're not a hardcore overclockers and regular dust your pc, it would generally be issue free

              • +1

@ln28909: Never had an issue with a Mac over a decade, apart from dead battery after years which is normal. Now I wonder how reliable this Dell would be. I think the excellent Dell warranty (quick turnaround) is great for mission critical applications, but as a gaming machine which I won’t use everyday, the superior Dell warranty terms are not useful to me - and you will pay extra for the privilege.

    • Does it def come with the FE card? I can't see anywhere that it mentioens that?

EDIT: Reading the Toms reveiw it has a custom 3090 card to fit in the case not a FE card

  • As good a deal as this one:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/576418

The price difference is basically for the 3080 vs 3090.

  • thank god it has a power cord

That PSU caddy is very clever, then they kinda blew it by making the rest of the case bulky anyway

  • Review at Tom's Hardware gives this thing 4/5 but says it's too loud and needs a redesign: "Alienware needs to redesign the Aurora from the ground up to allow for better airflow and reduce fan noise."

  • Looking at benchmarks the 3090 gets 5-10 extra fps than the 3080 at 4k ultra settings.

    Not really worth.

If not for gaming, then perhaps the 3090 is worth.

    But for gaming, not really.

    • Actually on MS Flight Sim 2020 at 4K, the 3080 is around 8 FPS quicker than the 2080 ti. I guess the 3080 is not worth it either then.

It would seem the game is not optimised to use multiple cores efficiently as yet. Once that’s fixed, even a 2080 ti could be more than enough for this one game at least.

But no, I won’t be buying this noisy Dell PC.

      • I haven't compared 2080ti against 3080, but what I do know is that the 3080 is not 1500aud+ more expensive than a 2080ti.

So, proportionally, the 3090 is even less worth it.

      • +1

I suppose it looks more like a type C USB port

  • I wonder how good the 3090 will be in Alienware's prebuilt given their previously poor OEM cards used in past generations.

  • More than you can afford pal…. Alienware Aurora R11 Gaming Desktop i9 10900F 32GB RAM 512GB SSD RTX 3090 24GB.

Ok so I did a dumb comparison. Obviously I don't know the Mobo (assume z490), Case/Cooling/PSU/mouse/keyboard so I use placeholders for all them since its dumb overpriced Alienware stuff. Came up close lol.

  • Good work. Except this Dell comes with no liquid cooler of any sort. The 2080 edition at least had it as an option. Can anyone confirm whether adding liquid cooling to this Dell is even possible? I’m guessing yes, but it would be very difficult. I don’t like noisy PCs.

Also is the Dell warranty one year? If so that’s a joke.

    • It has a CPU liquid cooler standard.

The one year warranty is on site repair which is great.. but it should be way longer for sure

      • Sorry, you're right about the CPU liquid cooler. Warranty of 1 year for a machine with a RRP of $7200 is appalling and ought to be illegal. Our statutory rights means they'd (most likely) be forced to service this machine at the two year point and maybe further.

  • I'm not sure I agree with Dell's listed RRP of $7,282.00, but if you want a unique-looking prebuilt gaming computer with the latest technology, then this is it at an acceptable price!

  • so I wonder what do you all think about this deal after big navi announcements and RX 6900 XT? Do you expect 3090 go down in price in the next couple of months to compete vs AMD card?

    • +2

      That relies on two things

AMD living up to the marketing hype, and Nvidia actually producing enough 30xx cards that they don't sell out instantly

    • +1

More likely than not, as to not 'alienate' those loyal customers who paid a premium, they'll probably launch a 3080Ti/Super/<insert other suffix> at a price point somewhere in between 3080 and 3090 with enough wiggle room to add more suffixes in the future.

That being said, longer term, the pricing for retail customers like us will probably fall just by virtue of supply/demand and the inability for retailers to sell things at RRP once the initial demand is satisfied.
