  • I'm so tempted too! I read that the 3090 version is loud as cooling is inadequate, does anyone know about 3080 version noise? Keen for silent as possible.

    • Based on the Dell Website, 3090 is an extra $2,083.40 on top

LTT did a review on the 3080 version of the R11 with the PCIe cooler. Seems to function well ?

  • how much do this parts add up?

including a comparable PSU, case and mb?

    Thanks

    • +3

I did heads maths and around 3300 to 3500 as it I cluded 1000w power supply and case and windows

      Very good price actually

      • so around $300 for labour, brand and warrenty?not too bad but not a huge bargain either.

        • It's pretty good value if you don't know how to build a PC. Similar prebuilts on other sites would probably cost you $4k+ Easy.

      • +1

        Good head maths.

        I configured equivalent for $3300 (https://bit.ly/31KPN0Z + $1139 FE GPU).

(Not associated or affiliated with that retailer)

        • Also need to add a AX wifi card

          • +1

@huey: That motherboard includes an Intel AX201 M.2 module + antennas

            • @AnotherHuman: Minimum price for 3080 should be $1300 for the Galax, FE is unobtainable at the price

              • @ln28909: Fair enough. So with a $1300 Galax + shipping takes full system to just under $3500.

So around $330 extra for the Alienware (which also includes onsite warranty + support). That's not too bad.

The case should cost significantly more than $55 dollars. This kind of build quality should be at least $200

        • The Alienware also has a water cooled GPU. That would add a couple hundred extra at least.

          • @Autonomic:

The Alienware also has a water cooled GPU.

            Nope, that's an optional extra.

            • @AnotherHuman: Ah you're right. Not as good as I thought.

              • @Autonomic: can I ask how you figured that it is not included??

                I see it says:
                Chassis
Lunar Light chassis with High-Performance CPU Liquid Cooling and 1000W Power Supply

so it seems like a liquid cooling?

                • +1

@bigsov: That is a CPU AIO cooler

                  • @Mouse123: thank you, it makes sense.

I see people here and on other forums mentioned that there is an option to get liquid cooling for GPU but I have checked on the US website and could not find an option for liquid cooled GPU for 3090: https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/cty/pdp/spd/alienware-aurora…

                    • +1

@bigsov: On Dell AU site there is only 1 custom option for Liquid Cooled GPU

                      • Liquid Cooled NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 2080 Super™ 8GB GDDR6 (OC Ready)
                      • @noob999: got it, so basically there is no option to get 3090 liquid cooled now.

I wonder is this machine customizable in terms of cooling? Can I buy a good cooler and install it later if I am uncomfortable with the noise?

You can build a more flexible PC for $3.3k. These are all normal prices too, not counting any specials. To be honest the CPU is overkill for just gaming - a 10700k or even 10600k is a better choice.

Better CPU, better cooler (they're using some garbage 120/240mm AIO to tick off the 'liquid cooling' box), non-proprietary motherboard, bigger SSD (add HDD later if needed), GPU that actually retains 2nd hand value when upgrading, much better airflow case, non-proprietary PSU.

If building is an option, you should consider waiting a week or so for the AMD Zen3 benchmarks to come out before deciding. Intel is in for a massacre if any of the leaked benchmarks hold true.

Tbh the value is pretty fair once you consider the GPU is water cooled. Plus you should add a $2-300 premium on the RTX 3080 since it's out of stock.

That being said it's only a good deal if you wanted this kind of system. You'd almost definitely be better off with a standard build like the one you linked.

        edit: nevermind NOT water cooled

      • i think it's a great deal considering someone else builds it and has a 1 yr warranty. shrug…

      • Big Navi annoucement incoming too. Hopefully it will kick off a price war.

  • +1

That's an um, interesting looking case.

    • I can't stop staring at it.

      • The word 'monologue' keeps coming to mind…

Wouldn't it be a cheaper and better just to buy a Xbox Series One on eBay?

Or is this thing 3x faster/better than a XBONE

    • +3

You can't use MS Paint on an Xbox.

      • Got em'

    • Well if it doubles as a work computer then why not. Plus not all games on consoles are 60+fps

For me playing games on pc instead of spending on a console pays for it self.. Arrr me harties

  • Better than the 5K laptop deal last time that's for sure, still won't drive me to work though D:

  • SSD & HD on these are Toshiba.

  • How is the upgradability on these things?

    • Only 1 NVME slot and 4 SATA according to Dell's doco but otherwise should be able to upgrade graphics card. CPU will depend on dell releasing a BIOS update for rocket lake support later on.

  • This looks good - from someone who just finished a new build and is impatiently awaiting stock of the 3080 to complete it :( :(

  • RTX 3090 version seems to be in stock now https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Alienware-Aurora-R11-Gaming-Desk…

  • deleted as dupe comment

  • They are just so mean on the harddrive…

  • I just don't get Alienware, why go to the effort to make a (subjectively) good looking case then make the rear and inside look straight out of the 1990's so it ruins the entire thing.

How much would it cost them to powder coat those parts? 10c?
