TRAIN TO BUSAN is much better

      • +2

Peninsula is so so, Train to Busan is better.

        • +1

That car chase scene in Peninsula had me spewing - can't believe this was the sequel to Train to Busan!

          • +1

@songsong: haha like wow a kid can drift and drive like tokyo drift!

        • +1

I went in blind watching Peninsula thinking it was Train to Busan 2. I was waiting for a train for the whole film haha

      • that was shite sorry

        • Agreed, way overrated

    • +1

Any horror movies like 'The Ring'

      Here you go…

      • +1

        I hate you

        • horrific enough

      • Goosebump all over my body

    • +7

"Oldboy" is amongst the best films ever made. Not so much of a horror but a complete mind-f**k.

      • It's not listed as being included though right? First thing I looked up - one of my all time favourite movies but I lost my DVD of it years ago

        • +4

It is not. But "Burning" is. Almost equally disturbing.

        • +1

Oldboy has been on SBS TV many times, but not currently available for streaming.

  • +5

Mother and Train to Busan are both fantastic

    • +1

Love Mother. First film I saw at the Film Festival in Busan long ago. Scored a free ticket. Memorable for so many reasons.

  • Do we need to download an app ?

    • +4

      No…

          • @jv: alright, finally, ..
I'm warming to your silly remarks.

They put Ads thoughout the movies. Better to just rent it for a buck and be able to enjoy the movie.

    • +7

      nah, SBS is fantastic.

    • +6

Yeah, ads suck, but on the other hand, it's free and this is OzBargain.

It would be nice if they had an option to pay a monthly subscription fee to allow you to watch ad-free.

North or South Korean? I can imagine the dystopian cinema of the North would be quite a welcome change from the Bachelorette Island stuff on local TV.

    • +1

Crash Landing on You (Netflix Series) first half of the season is set in the North. It's on my rewatch list. We binged all 16 x 2hr episodes in like two weeks.

  • -1

isn’t there a sequel to train to busan coming soon?

    • +2

Yep and it's called Peninsula and it is utter shite. Watch the Director's earlier movies instead such as The King Of Pigs which is brilliant.

  • Wouldn't mind checking this out, I like the romatic-gangster-seeking revenge type movies :)

  • -6

Do I have to pay for this ? As a tax payer i mean ?

  • -6

Why don't they just show these on SBS?

I'm not blowing all my data on stupid streaming

    • +6

You want that on a silver platter too?

    • +3

C'mon, live a little. Blow all that data then party like it's 1999.

  • Great stuff. How do we find out what films will be showing? SBS in demand used to have a movie search by country but I cannot find that anymore.

    • +8

Managed to find the answer after a long search of the SBS website.

Came across this article about the films: https://www.sbs.com.au/language/english/korean-film-festival…

      The films are:
      Train to Busan
      Mother
      Believer
      The Villainess
      Rampant
      The Great Battle
      Swing Kids

The article and Facebook post are a bit misleading as all of the films can be watched right now and they are available until next year so no need to watch them all so soon.

      • So the above list are available now or only available between 1-8 November?

        • Now. You should check it out for yourself.

      • The villainess is awesome!
As are Train to Busan and The Great Battle.

Mind you, aren’t these usually available anyways? Or am I confusing with Netflix?

      • +1

Burning is also on Demand although not officially part of the festival. I thought it was rather good.

        • +1

          Agree. That's a top film.

  • Korea makes a lot of good things for tv as well

  • Next bargain, state if origin will be on tv soon FOR FREE!!!

  • anyone have issues playing movies from SBS? I used to be able to, but it refuses to work for me now. I've tried multiple browsers on multiple machines

  • Kim Ki Duk movies are the best

  • Any non horror movies that people would recommend? Something date night friendly?

  • Is there a way to download it for viewing later?

  • Korean cinema is very high quality. It's great that Parasite opened it up to non-Korean audiences.

    • Totally agree. Parasite was such a good film too. It's been so long since I've watched such a high standard of film.

  • +3

For the last 10 years I've watched a lots of Korean movies and fell in love with their cinematography. They have been producing a lot better movies than the Hollywood garbage for a while now.
Here is a list for some very good horror movies from my collection:

    1. I Saw the Devil (2010)
    2. The Wailing (2016)
    3. Memories of Murder (2003)
    4. Memoir of a Murderer (2017)
    5. The Witness (2018)
    6. The Chaser (2008)
    7. Mother (2009)
    8. The Chase (2017)

Over time I have build a collection of around 50 Korean movies, anyone interested in some more movies I can recommend others.
