This is one of the best deals. I received $275 cashback and 120k points few months ago.

I was able to get annual fee refund of $375 by linking this card with my breakfree package after receiving the points.

    • +2

how did you do the link to your breakfree? Did you have to call them or can you send them a message on ANZ internet banking?

      • +2

Curious about this as well, asked if I could link to break free and they said they can’t because you can’t have both deals.

        • Have also been told this, but currently have a breakfree package without bothering to link a credit card…

      • +4

Annual fee is charged during 1st bank statement and I didn't receive bonus points until 3rd statement from memory.

I rang breakfree team who placed a request with backoffice admin to link my card with breakfree package. When the card was linked, I asked them to refund the fee which they happily did.

        See here

Here is the direct email to save you phone call.

        • I might give this a go

          • @johnmelb: How did u go with this. I am in process of applying for Platinum card.

          • +1

            @cray: Thanks for sharing.

        • +1

I was told by ANZ phone banking officer that you can have either discount via break free or bonus points+cashback. Now confused whether I should proceed with the application. Any hint please

        • +1

Thanks ash-say. I followed this and got full annual fee refunded due to Breakfree package. Also, got promotional 120k points and $200.

      • I was advised by ANZ a while ago that yuo have to add it to breakfree AFTEr you get your points. The annual fee would be refunded at that point, didn't progress with the application so cant confirm this works

    • damn i had to apply for some stupid citibank card with just $500voucher

  • Another fee for a reward program of $55. Meh

    • +3

Looks like that's included in the $425:

For ANZ Frequent Flyer Black, a Total Annual Fee of $425 applies which includes a $370 Annual Account Fee and a $55 Rewards Program Services Fee.

      • thanks for the info

      • yes it's included.

  • +1

The annual fee for the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black is $425 per year. However, you'll receive $120 back when you spend a minimum of $3,000 on eligible purchases within the first 3 months of approval. This effectively brings the first year annual fee down to just $225.

    something not adding up there

    • +4

Uhm $425-$200=$225. Think you need to work on your Maths

      • +2

ha. its fixed now. It was showing $120 back (that was a copy and paste from the champagne mile website above). Must have been a typo

  • For additional cardholders on an ANZ Frequent Flyer, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum or ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card, an annual Additional Cardholder Fee of $10 and an annual Rewards Program Services Fee of $55 will apply per additional cardholder on the account

Is that $65 per additional card? Does anyone besides Amex do free supplementary point earning cards?

    • -1

No. It's $65 additional card fee + $55 reward program fee for the additional card. total $110.

      Bear in mind that
      - their credit assessment centre is in India
      - credit application process is quite a pain.

for those who applied, I wonder how many pay slips did they request?

      • they asked for the last 7 fortnightly payslips for my application

        • +1

that's quite a lot for just a simple credit card application, isn't it?

      • No. It's $65 additional card fee + $55 reward program fee for the additional card. total $110.

$110 for an additional card holder is bollocks, that's off the table for me then

        • Add to Apple Pay for second cardholder?

          • @guerro: Good idea, though it's adding too many variables in - card goes to my parents and the less technology involved, the better!

            • @aragornelessar: Give the card to your parents and you add it to your Apple/google pay ..

      • +3

        How is it $110?

The additional card fee is $10 and rewards fee is $55, totalling $65 per year for an additional cardholder.

  • +2

Anyone know when the offer will end ? Can't find any details on this anywhere

  • -5

ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuu I just applied to their 150K+$150 back offer last friday fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

    n/m read 120K as 200K lol

edit: damn my offer was 100K+$150 so still fuuuuuuuuuuuu lol

    • Bugger… I applied for that old offer 2 weeks ago and got approved last Friday……
I wonder if they can apply this new offer to it instead….

  • Applied! not eligible for westpac for another 6 months so this is next best.

    • Approved after a phone call this morning.

  • +1

Annual fee kills the deal, even with the $200 cashback

    • Not for me.

    • Respectfully disagree. 120K points for $225 is excellent.

Assuming the 3K spend in 3 months can be met of course.

      • What would you do with all those points? The rewards catalog just looks… overpriced. And we can't really fly anywhere.

  • I am looking to apply for a credit card to start earning qantas points for when we can finally travel. Would someone be kind enough to offer me advice on whether I should go for this or the The Qantas American Express Premium Card? I understand AMEX is not accepted everywhere as a limitation but other than that I am unsure. Cheers

    • +4

Do one, then do the other. As long as you are not spending for the sake of spending then it's all bonus gravy. Even with the card feeds the QFF points are easily worth it.

    • I would go for the Westpac Qantas Black first because it’s free and gives you 90K provided you can meet the criteria.

      • not quite free, there a $50 Qantas fee

        • Yeah forgot about that. I normally collect the Westpac Rewards and that's free so yeah.

      • Link?

  • What's the expiry on Qantas points? Not much to use them on for maybe the next 12 months.

    • They don't expire as long as you earn or use them within 18 months.

      • +2

Or in the unlikely event Qantas expires…

        • False. We saw with Virgin that the frequent flyer program survived.

          • @ShervinD: So it’s not unlikely? How you know this?

    • As long as you keep earning Qantas points the expiry extends indefinitely.

  • I closed off my anz travel adventures a few months back, but looking at the T&C should still be eligible, which should be interesting.

'closed an ANZ Frequent Flyer Black, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum, ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold or an ANZ Frequent Flyer credit card in the last 12 months'

    • +1

I applied for this in Feb while also holding Travel Adventures and was eligible for the bonus. They are different reward programs, and based on the T&Cs you linked, this is still the case :)

  • +1

Do we know until when this offer is valid for?

  • -2

I thought $50 was expensive to get 90k QFF points with the Westpac.
This card appears to be $225 for 120k points.
    Rip-off

    • +1

At 1c per point once flights pick up again I respectfully disagree.

Pay $50 to get $900 or pay $225 to get $1,200 both awesome deals.

I'm always shocked these deals don't get over 1000 upvotes it's free money.

      • What do you do with the points? I have heaps but haven't spent them.

        • Sell the points for cash. Before covid people were paying up to 1.2cents per point.

  • This is not the best they've done. I thought they've done $150 annual fee before?

    • +1

They have done free ($0 fee), but only 75k points. I believe I went with this deal in 2018.

      • +1

        ah 2018. good times

      • They had 75K no annual fee again this year for the Platinum card

        • I foolishly kept my previous card too long though.
Maybe I can risk this one, and use breakfree package to get the fee back.

          edit: this one right?

          • @johnmelb: Yeah that one and yes I would use the breakfree package to get the annual fee back.

      • I'm referring to this deal, which has happened a few times the past year

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/552688

    • They have done free with status credits and lounge passes, but that was a few years back

    • Yes - In Dec 2019 they did 120K QFF points + $425 annual fee - $275 cashback on min spend = $150 annual fee. So their best so far is an annual fee that's $75 less than this after cash back. The catch was that the min spend was higher then ($4000 instead of $3000).

  • +1

Not related to this deal but I have the ANZ Rewards Adventures with the free return Virgin flight. It will expire soon and I'm in Vic…

Anyone in the same situation and have any idea what to do? That really hurts if I just have to eat the annual fee, get next to no benefit from that card :/

Also I'm another 6 months from being able to rotate back to the FF Black which is a bugger :(

    • +3

Cancel the Rewards Adventure. Kinda useless now after they took away the benefits.

      • Yeah I will do that, but do I have any recourse here? The annual fee is meant to be offset by the flight, but that hasn't been possible in this case..

        • Best to book you flight then to offset the annual fee before cancelling. That's what I did and I can still change my flights long after the card has been cancelled.

          • @nightelves: Oh really. So you booked it for next year sometime and will just change it closer to the date? How far in advance can you go? And you'd still be subject to flight change fees right?

I just submitted an enquiry to get a credit on my annual fee, let's see how that goes first.

            • +1

@fLaMePrO: Had flights booked for Perth in October. Flight got cancelled, called up the agent and they said I could book it up to 6 months in advance without any fee change. Pretty sure Virgin isn’t enforcing fee change atm.

          • @nightelves: Have you had confirmation regarding this? There's a lot of conflicting info re: bookings flights and cancelling the card, some have said the card needs to be active…?? Curious as i'm about to cancel mine.

            • @blueyez: Once the flight is handed to the travel agent then it has nothing to do with Anz same with Amex Travel.

        • +1

I read somewhere else on OzBargain about people getting the annual fee refunded on that card because they couldn't take the flight due to Virgin's issues. I'd look into that, and then call ANZ and ask for the same. If they say no, then book a flight, then close the card as soon as you have the flight confirmation email.

          • @nickj: Ok that's useful info, thanks. I'll look into it.

        • just cancelled mine last Friday. Got a $130 refund for not redeeming the flights (wasn't going to travel anyway). Had my card packaged in the Breakfree package, so $130 refund - $55 reward program fee, I'm still ahead

    • +1

Already a thread about it https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/568024

You should've received a letter regarding options re: flights and annual fees :)

      • +1

Ah that's good to know, cheers. I didn't get a letter which is strange, but just found their updated FAQ which mentions all that stuff.

Their online support confirmed the $130 credit as mentioned above so I'll just do that and then cancel the card.

  • Exactly
    I'm cancelling and looking elsewhere

  • What the minimum earning amount to be eligible for this card?

    • Min income for just about every provider is $75k for black cards, and $35k (very occasionally $40k) for platinum cards. So the answer is $75k. Obviously you might need more than that if you have lots of cards currently open (they have to factor in the repayments you'd have to make if you max out your limits), or lots of expenses.

  • How many credit cards can be applied per year that doesn't affect the borrowing ability if we want to acquire a property in the same year

    • Hard to say. It's not a transparent process, and different lenders may apply different criteria and weightings to those criteria.

I'd close as many cards as possible before applying for the home loan. Ideally get it down to 1 or 2 cards, with low limits (lower the limits if you possibly can, to just what you actually need, e.g. a few thousand to revolve your transactions through). The $15k limit on this would certainly reduce your borrowing capacity, and frankly it's unnecessarily and ludicrously high for most people (max limit actually used for us would be about $3k out of the $15k), so if you go for this it would be a very good one to close before applying. If you've paid everything off on time in your credit report, and got it down to just a few open cards with low limits at the time of application, I think that would be beneficial to your borrowing ability, and probably far more important that however many cards you had historically applied for in previous years.

      • Closing cards and lowering limits has never positively affected my credit score in the short term - they take a long time to drop off.

Whenever I've applied for a new card it always has a negative impact; the last one was a drop of 102 points for a application for a $12k credit card a couple of months ago. Similarly when old applications (successful or not) drop off after 5 years my score goes up.

I use two different (free) services to track - "credit savvy" and "getcreditscore".

  • Thanks. Applied yesterday and got it approved today morning.

  • Used to have this card couple of years ago.. I've just applied and got automatically refused.
Owning home outright with 6 digits annual salary and some good savings. Credit score is > 645.
    Very strange.

    • Banks don't like people that's loaded. How are they meant to make money from you?

  • Thanks. Applied last week and got it approved today afternoon.

  • +2

PSA for existing ANZ customers: if you apply via ANZ internet banking (Products & Offers > Credit Cards) then the offer is slightly better with two Qantas lounge passes thrown in. From inside ANZ internet banking the link takes you here. If you are not an existing ANZ customer and you use that link then no guarantees it will work!

    • Also from pointhacks website

  • Can you apply and eligible for bonus points if you already have anz platinum credit card

  • Did anyone get a follow up email after applying?

I applied an hour ago and nothing has come through.

    • +1

Applied and approved within two days.

Tried to call them. Were closed on a weekend. Tried again on a weekday and big delays so I hung up.

Hope I never need to call them as that's not a sign of confidence.

  • Nobody's talking about the $15k minimum credit limit. Thats high!
