    • Qantas Frequent Flyer

    • +1

Otherwise 14,500 points will get you a $100 gift card at Woolies, etc

  • There's also the Westpac Earth card which also gives 16,000 points and .5 point per dollar on the Mastercard (compared to .25 per dollar on Visa) but the Annual fee is $75.

    • Woolworths Qantas card is a better deal, 1 point per dollar spent, no annual fee for first year, $70 annual fee.

      • Agreed

  • reading the term and condition below, it seems annual fee free but still got charge $49 to get your point. it is pointless

    "Note this bit from T&C:
For ANZ Frequent Flyer an annual account Fee of $49 applies. An annual $10 Additional Cardholder Fee applies per additional cardholder on the account."

    • Did you note this from same T&C… "$0 annual fee waiver".
Stated above by op, as in offer last time… waived for first year.
Up to you if you think $49/yr is worth it in second year.
Most would take the money/points & run.
You get over $100 worth of points just for joining.

  • Qantas frequent flyer pts are awarded only if you are qantas frequent flyer member. And it cost $82.50 to join… unless apply for the credit card automatically let u join for free…

"An Account Holder must be a member of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program to earn and redeem Qantas Frequent Flyer points. A joining fee may apply. "

    anybody can clarify?

    • +1

It is a Qantas FF card - so needs to be linked to a Qantass FF account. FREE to join - T&C above… "This joining fee waiver is offered by ANZ. It is available to new applicants or existing ANZ Frequent Flyer credit card account holders who are not already Qantas Frequent Flyer members and who apply for membership online at qantas.com/joinffanz."
Also free to join if you get free Everyday Rewards card from Woolies!

      • Got it, thks! :)

    • Not much use getting a FF credit card if the points can not be put on a FF account.

    • Just join for free using Woolworths Everyday Rewards

      EDIT: Ignore…too slow

  • anyone know what the minium income is to apply for the anz cc? I thought it was 15k in the terms but the wife got rejected dont know if its worth reapplying this year for it?

    • Yes, 15K is minimum income, BUT…
Here is a copy of my letter to ANZ over refusal a few weeks ago. I meet all their stated criteria, but was refused & ANZ won't give any reason…

Hello, as you do not outline the reason for refusal, just if my 'circumstances change in the future' you will be happy to consider a new application, how can I know what changed circumstances may help me in my application?
I already am an ANZ customer, own my own home, have investments, but apparently I am a credit risk?

      • do you have cc from other bank?
do you have personal loan or other loan?

        • No, only Visa for years with ANZ with $4k limit
Asked for QFF AMEX/Visa ($2k limit)
Offered to swap existing Visa over
No loans at all. Nearly $1M in house & investments but refused by ANZ

        • if you got other credit card with them, normally they won't give you this item, this is promo to attract new customer (marketing trick mate). no benefit for the company to give the current existing customer 16000 points.

      • Yes, i know it says 15K is minimum income required to apply in the terms but when you call up they say 20k. its just like bankwest in their printed materials it says 15k but when you talk to them its $19500. maybe their printed marketing material is out of date and needs to be adjusted for the cpi etc. when i got a loan with anz they said the minimum income was 20k on the phone to be approved so maybe its the same for their credit cards. why don't you just reapply and put down 20k+ i think you will get approved? lets us know? btw if you have over 1 million in loans and investments with anz apparently you can apply for private banking , and get the Platinum ff cc annual fee waived for life?

        • Um… the house is the major asset. Not a cent with ANZ, just a basic free credit card which I offered to close. Was told that was not necesary to get this deal. They told me they will give students one of these deals. I'm on a part-pension with over $20K income on my application. Friend (non ANZ customer) was also refused with no explanation, despite a lot of investments & meeting requirements. I wonder who qualifies for this deal?

As for banks not wanting to sell products to their existing customers & make more money from them - dream on! This offer is available to existing ANZ CC customers - it says so in the T&C! They would be moving me from a free card to a full fee card. Banks love to make more money from existing customers - it is cheaper for them.

Interestingly, their standard rejection letter offered me "An alternative solution to credit" - a Visa Debit card, when I already have a Visa credit card with them!

        • may be because of your pension situation, bank prefer people that have regular income. when i was doing lending before, if you get pension payment, the bank normally take consideration 30% of your payment, so if you get 20k, the bank might consider your regular income only 6k only. but that was for home loan, i wasn't sure with credit card credit assessment.

  • +1

Maybe if didn't put down a pensioner as your main job it may be a different outcome? ie any part time job put that down as your job title it may help.

    • Work - haven't done that in years? They only have a few categories for employment (student, employed, unemployed, retired, etc), closest was retired. Once you say you work - they usually want employer details. When I chatted on the phone, I told them I holidayed overseas 9 months a year - that is why I wanted the Amex card. (The title on my 'business' card says Traveller.)
      Thanks!
I won't bother with ANZ again. Just interested that others have been refused.

      • Get a free AMEX card from somewhere else if that is what you are after. The BMW ones is a good option. There's also the Qantas one as well.

The ANZ deal isn't that good long term. The Woolies mastercard is better for a points earning visa/mastercard and aforementioned AMEX cards are better. The BMW one even has 55 days interest free.

        • Sorry - was not wanting an Amex card, just the benefits of the Fee Free 1st year & over $100 in points! That is what this deal is all about.
(I TOLD ANZ I wanted an AMEX card (have a Visa CC with ANZ), just as an excuse to change cards & get the points. I like a bargain.)
The long term benefits of the offer are fairly irrelevent as people change cards based on the current best deal for them.
Not a bad deal - if they would only let me have it.

        • Some people like myself have been refused the deal without reason. I satisfy ANZ's stated criteria. Without indicating grounds for the refusal, it is difficult to know the best approach for those on a lower income ($40k for some cards) to apply for this offer. That is what was being discussed.
But no longer working, I can not satisfy most providers income criteria, despite nearly $1M in assets. So I don't think BMW will offer me a CC when ANZ declined! LOL

        • http://www.creditcardcompare.com.au/frequent-flyer-credit-ca… gives a comparison of FF cards. You can set your income level etc & see what you can apply for. This ANZ offer has a minimum income level of $15k.

  • brucefromaustralia my partner got rejected for the anz ff card even though she earned over 15k but got approved for the cba amex card. next time try putting down student as the job title, maybe it is easier like my partner did. im sure they don't check to see if you are a current student, you can always say you do self study online etc. i know some banks don't even process the application pass stage 1 if you chose unemployed or pensioner as the job title they just reject it straight away i reckon without even doing a credit history check and other checks. i wouldn't even bother applying for an Amex in australia unless your income is 40k plus even though they say on the application form its 25k for the BMW amex card but when you call the credit card approval dept they say dont even bother applying if you aren't earning 40k+. Amex issued cards are great for rewards, promos etc if you can get one. with an AMex issued card you can simply do product transfers. you can always trying getting an amex issued card overseas and then transfer the card to Australia if you meet the more relaxed criteria of some other country's.? btw CBA also issue amex cards and their criteria seem to be easier to meet if you put down being a student or some other job title. don't put down being unemployed or pensioner as im sure they will reject it right away. you can always request to convert your current anz cc over to a frequent flyer card but then you wont get the points and probably loose the no annual fee on your current card which would defeat the purpose. btw how did you manage to get an anz no annual fee credit card for life? The best ive been able to do so far is call up and get the $49 waived every year.

    • Thanks Coolsteps - it seems you have researched the area thoroughly. Your name appeared when I looked up the BMW Amex offer! Thanks for the good ideas!

But putting down 'student' and age (in my early 50's) may not be accepted either. Student to the bank would indicate future income prospects = profits, not so much when you are nearing normal retirement age.

Had an Amex card from NAB 3 years ago - same offer as this but with Virgin points. Had no problem qualifying, even as a pensioner. So I think different banks vet their applications differently. (Was interested in the Amex only for the offers posted on OzBargain.)

As for no fee on the ANZ - can't remember the deal it was so long back - investments or minimum spend I think. Will be moving banks now as closed last investment with ANZ. Noticed reference to people asking for waived fees in these forums. Earlier had a free CBA Visa CC with Rewards for years. There were less than 50 of those original cards issued in Queensland. Just said I was starting a business! Can't understand why people pay for CC when there are free ones.

This was the first time I have been rejected for a credit card, and I have a lot more money now. It is no big issue. But I always felt left out when Jetstar repeatedly offered a CC which I could not apply for as it required $30K income. Most are like that. Because I do not qualify for the card, I miss the free offers & had to pay a higher fee for a booking out of Tokyo. Strange for a discount airline (that I travel with to Japan each year) having a restriction like that. (I know it is not really their card.)
