[VIC] Free $15 Costco Shop Card for Victorian Members @ Costco

2130

For Victorian customers, I have just received an email from Costco that they are offering a $15 shop card which can be collected in store up till the end of the year.

As a valued member, we appreciate your loyalty and patience during stage four lockdown. As one of our Victorian members, we understand this has been particularly challenging. As a gesture of our gratitude for your loyalty during this time, we would like to offer you a $15 Costco Shop Card. This amount represents the value of 3 months of your membership fees. This Costco Shop Card can be used either toward your membership renewal fee or on purchases anywhere throughout the warehouse.

Your Costco Shop Card can be collected at the membership counter of your local warehouse in Victoria. We would encourage you to observe current Victorian state advice before heading to the warehouse. Rest assured, you are able to collect your Costco Shop Card anytime on or before the 31st of December 2020.

Limit of one per membership. Shopping is limited to one person per household. Costco Shop Cards are not redeemable at the fuel station or on online purchases.

Do you though? I live 6.5kms from my nearest Costco and can't utilize this until the 5km bubble is opened…

      • +3

Costco is literally 100 metres outside of my range :(

        • wow didn't know it's that strict 😳

          • @HunterBargainHunter: You have until the end of the year to pick it up

        • +3

you know its not google-map distance but 'as the crow fly' measurnment…so maybe you are in?

          • +1

@ahly92: Nah I'm still out, 5.1km via birds eye and 7.1km via regular travel. I've saved a fair bit from unnecessary Costco trips so that's a plus I guess :)

          • @ahly92: Really so what do the police check when they pull you over?

            • @nightelves: The address on your licence and/or the address of the registered owner of the car, depending on how they "detect" you.

              • @pjetson: I’m talking about how will they determined if you’re say 200m outside the border. Are they using google map to determine that or what crow fly measurement?

                • +2

@nightelves: Hopefully the "official" page from Vic gov.

                  https://www.vic.gov.au/coronavirus-5km-from-home-map

                • @nightelves: My understanding of the 5km limit is that it's as the crow flies, and certainly google and other web sites can tell you quickly and easily where the limit is given an address. Would the police fine you for such a small distance over the limit if you had a good reason for being there? I suspect not, unless you show an "attitude problem" or they have some other reason for wanting to catch you out.

        • +1

Try measuring with a metal measuring tape straight out of the freezer.

          • +1

@norstar: I think that would work better with an oven in this case.

            • @Yarkin: Oooof covid fatigue messing with my brain…….Thanks for the correction

        • +1

Just go. What are the odds they are going to pull ou over anyway?

          • @Priicey: Have seen photos of ADF + Police at the entrance to Costco docklands (twice in last 2 months or so).
But if it's literally just 100m I'd daresay you'd get away with that + as others have mentioned, it's a straight line distance, etc etc.

      • Seriously? I don't think they'd pick you up for being 6.5km from home.

    • +5

Wow…you'd prefer to be in lockdown just for $15…I'm genuinely sorry to hear that.

      • Yes, some people will go to great lengths to save some bucks.
This is OzBargain after all. ;-)

    • +2

My nearest Costco is only 15 mins away but I haven't been able to go there the last 3 months because that 4km further than my lockdown zone allows. Happy to trade places for $15 any time champ.

clearly people who downvoted you have 0% sense of humour
To people who didn't understand, he was saying that this offering is a joke.

      • Yeah, I normally wouldn't upvote, found it mildly amusing but not particularly funny. But there seem to be a number of people who didn't get that it was a joke. I can kind of understand some Melbournians being a bit bothered by it, it hasn't been a picnic (although I had one the other day).

      • +1

Yeah, maybe the sense of humour in us Victorians just isn't quite there at the moment. You'd know, but you're not one.

    • +2

Is that a joke? Silly man….

    • As a Victorian, I am shocked I'm one of only 3 upvotes in the 9 hours this has been up.

When did sarcasm become a foreign language to y'all?

    • +1

You're missing out on so much. Dan Andrews has been so generous during all this. He's given us all 2 hours of free exercise per day. For those businesses affected, he's given us a generous 1500 per fortnight to get through this as well. Bless him.

  • thanks, got the email, will save it toward my membership next year

  • +6

Got the email too. Also remember to set up auto-renew at the same time when collecting the card for an extra $10 card. That's what i'll be doing

    • Also got the email, I didn't notice it before, I just thought it was another savings/newsletter in my inbox, which I haven't read due to no point doing so, would have missed it most likely.

      Thanks OP & Costco

      username checks out

    • +1

I think that's a joke folks, lighten up (Victorian here).

      • +2

Jokes where banned back in 2000. We are primed to speak only triple checked, peer-reviewed facts and nothing more by 2100.

        • When it comes to COVID and the VIC lockdown I'm all about black humour, it's what the situation calls for. Taking things seriously is depressing :D

    • -2

wow - tough crowd today. i thought crowds were banned

  • +3

that's if the restrictions will ease by 31st of December 2020

    • +5

Maybe by 31st of December 2021 we may have a chance. But jokes aside this is a nice gesture.

    • +2

Looks on track to ease sometime next month, so just need to stay the course.

  • Must be targeted. I haven't received the e-mail and have been shopping there weekly (because I'm lucky enough to be within 5km!). Great gesture from them all the same though.

    • They might not have your email on file or it may be incorrect? I've been shopping at Costco regularly during stage 4 (I'm within 5km of one) and I got the offer.

      • oh weird. well i get the special emails so seems strange? maybe it's just slow reaching me…

    • Don't forget to check your Junk inbox

      • I’ve checked and there’s nothing there- weird. Maybe I’ll just ask next time I’m in!

  • Most of Victoria isn't allowed to collect anything from a Costco store…

  • I wonder if I could sign up now and still request it 🤔

    • wait until 5km restriction is lifted

    • +4

often there's a costco kiosk at shopping centres (i've seen them at a couple like Chadstone, The Glen), and if you go and act like you're interested in signing up, they'll give you a $10 voucher to trial

  • That's so great I got the email, my membership just expired last month

  • +1

You reckon this is also open to additional cardholders?

    • +2

I've added the T&C's just now, limit to 1 per membership.

  • +2

With the link - What's this non-member thing? I have a business account - can I just buy these gift cards and anyone can go into Costco to buy things?

    • +3

Correct. It's a fairly new thing in Australia but has been in other countries for years. If you have a Costco Shop Card you don't need a membership to get in and buy things. It isn't clear if you can use other payment methods at the checkout however.

  • -5

Not sure why we needed a 'deal' on here, when costco is emailing everyone who has a active membership.

    • +1

Nope. I haven't got any email
Might be because I signed up in the Lidcombe store in Sydney and used to go to Docklands in Melbourne (lived between the two states before everything got locked down…).
I might call them to ask to see if I get that voucher

      • +3

Well if you have a 'NSW' based membership and haven't changed your address, then I don't think you'll be getting a voucher.

    • I am a active member and I have not received an email. So this 'deal' is useful for me.

  • We have one membership but two cardholder. Each of us received the email. So how does it work? $15 GC for each?

    • no, one per household.

      • One per membership for public members.

  • +3

Business member of Costco. Received 2 :)

    • +1

Did you receive 2 vouchers of $15 each on 1 membership !

      • I don't know how they've signed us up..

        Business membership
        2 membership numbers
        2 cards
        Paid $55
        2 $15 vouchers

        • Tried to do the same thing today but the offer was only valid for one person. Had to 2 business membership ID with two seperate email.

  • +2

So strange they don't make it an evoucher that Victorian's can use online or in store, but better than nothing. I cancelled my membership and got it refunded when the 5km rule started - it would make sense for them to add a couple months to the membership annual renewal date to avoid cancellations. I was able to do over the phone since I joined online, but if you joined in store they said you have to contact the actual store (not sure if true).

    • +2

Its about getting you back in store to spend up once this is over!

  • +4

    Urgent reminder….

    Happy shopping all :)

  • +3

I see this as 3x hot dogs with pepsi & 3x pizza slices. Dinner is sorted

    • Part of the reason why I joined up several months ago, as well as when they were doing the $10 refer a friend promo.
Being unemployed, the cheap feed is very helpful.

  • Does Costco actually sell any American things or is it just bulk Australian products?
    Forgive my idiocy.

    • +1

      Has items from the US.

    • +2

Only used my membership twice due to covid.

From what I noticed the food is mainly all Australian. The other misc items such as BBQs, clothes or any seasonal item is all a mix of China/America/Mexico etc.

Many items you wouldn't bother buying but some are really good!! Not everything is cheap though.

Online I've actually been noticing a $10-$20 increase on most items compared to in store

      • Thanks for the reply. Ok no worries, once lockdown eases I might sign up. Thanks

    • +2

When I went last they have packs of Dr Pepper, Dr Pepper Cherry and Cherry Coke.
Due to lockdown getting from USA Foods instead, but they out of stock of Dr Pepper Cherry at the moment.

    • Fresh meat and produce are Australian. Packaged goods are from all over the world.

    • Products from all over the world including Australia.

We get all our Milk from there, plenty of fresh produce.

They have There are 776 Costco warehouses in the world.

So they ship produce purchased locally around the world to the other warehouses where suitable.

    • Check this out to see some of the products available.

      • Great article thanks:)

  • +2

I haven't received this email - has anyone claimed it without receiving the email?

  • +5

Wouldn't it be better to provide proportional discount of the unused membership value? $15 seems too low given a lot of people would not have been able to go to costco for majority of this year.

    • We were able to go for most of the year but not during the stage 4 lockdown of 5km.

Basically from 5 August so for August to end of October would be 3 months.

$15 out of $60 would be 3 months worth of membership which seems fair.

      • That's assuming October is when restrictions are lifted.

But when I went to the Ringwood warehouse back in June the line was so big I didn't bother specially with all the covid fear back then.

    • +2

Yep definitely cross the border and try and stand close to someone coughing and sneezing if you can. And hopefully natural selection will take care of the rest.

      • Dirty, Dirty Victoria but has a Melbourne based address……we don't want you back.

  • Who knows if we'll be allowed to visit Costco before the end of the year?

  • +2

What if i signup now? Will I still get it? ;)

    • Same question

    • I'm not sure why you would!? As per the email, this is for the loyalty shown by existing customers.

  • I still haven't received the email. Is there a code or does it just say rock up at the desk to claim?

    • They asked to see my email.

  • can a person with international costco membership card who lives in Melbourne get the 15 bucks?
