    • The link you showed is a different product altogether.

      • Someone isn’t switched on

      • Opps weekend brain

  • I need to replace all of the switches in my house. Does anyone have a range they would recommend? I was looking at the clipsal iconic range but have heard they feel a bit cheap. Has anyone had any experience with these?

    • I've had a few electricians tell me that HPM is by far the best quality of all the brands. I had pre-bought some Deta switches to try and save money, and one of the electricians handed me a screwdriver and invited me to do up the screws (in my hand, not connected to mains). The screws jammed and bound. He then grabbed a brand-new HPM from his toolbox and invited me to do the same. No problems. He said that's why electricians only carry HPM parts, it saves them time, and saves complaints from customers when cheaper parts break prematurely.

      • I'm a qualified electrician and HPM is widely regarded among electricians as being rubbish. Are you associated with HPM?

        • me too.
I would expect domestic electricians to carry Clipsal classic and 2000 series. If he had HPM i would show him the door.

Interesting. The simple demonstration my electricians got me to do indicates that Deta was rubbish, and HPM was at least better. I took them at their word. My own experience with Clipsal hasn't been good, right now I'm nursing two failing Clipsal light switches (one that doesn't "click" properly in one position, one that buzzes that I've turned off and covered up) until I can get a bit more work to justify the cost of an electrician callout. Do you have a reason for your dislike? Have you had HPM stuff fail where other brands didn't?

I've also had bad experiences with Arlec power boards and double adaptors, they just don't seem to be well designed, for example the contacts didn't line up with the plasticwork. I've also taken apart some failed ones, and the internal plastic insulating barriers had all cracked. So if HPM are bad as well, then what brands are left?

          Are you associated with HPM?

Nope, I design electronics for a living, and they're not even mains-powered electronics. Almost entirely 24/28VDC, 13.8V automotive, and lower. Although I did once do a design for diesel-electric locomotives, that's a power supply from hell, 72V DC with LOTS of electrical noise.
