  • The RGB lighting on the keyboard was an issue with 2 units I've seen. Make sure you update the drivers, and especially the vantage software. The wrong UI to control the keyboard is presented if you're offline but you can still change between profiles. To actually configure a profile you'll need Internet. Documented properly here:

    https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Gaming-Laptops/RGB-keyboard-cus…

I raised it with support and they said they'd raised it with their software team and would get back to me if they made any progress. Which is code for nothing will get done as far as I can tell.

Good laptops otherwise. Kids are using them for BYOD and haven't had any complaints. Not sure I'd want to deal with Lenovo for any significant problem though.

  • Got it on the previous deal for $1494 and 7% cash back. Excellent laptop. Just looking the replace 1TB HDD 5400rpm 2.5" with another NVMe 1TB ssd now.

  • Is this good for video editing? 1080p, around 15 mins videos. Or is this not really good value for video editing?

    • +4

It's going to be as good as any laptop at this price point. Graphics are adequate. Screen is fine unless you're doing pro work - much better colour gamat and accuracy than other machines at this price. CPU is excellent and it has extra storage though you're still going to want to move anything you're done with to an external drive as soon as practical. If you're doing heavy editing though I'd suggest a desktop if you don't need the size or portability advantages.

With an 8 core/16 thread CPU this thing is a workhorse for video editing and is faster than most laptops on the market (and most mid range desktop PCs for that matter) which mostly contain CPUs of 4 to 6 cores. It also comes with 16GB of RAM (whereby most cheaper laptops only come with 8GB) and which is needed for video editing.

    • +1

The 4800H is pretty much the fastest CPU you can get at the moment with 8 cores and 16 threads, unless you wish to spend over 2k for the AMD Ryzen 4900H. It's faster then any of the current Intel mobile processors. The Legion also has one of the fastest implementation of the 4800H by allowing up to 69W. It will handle 1080p and 4k video editing without issues.

  • 1660ti would be good.

    • Not available in Australia at the moment. Can only be imported from Amazon US at a very reasonable price with a 144hz screen as well.

      • Yes, saw that one. A bit hesistant due to warranty.

The new HP Omen 15 4800H and 1660ti was down to USD1149 at Bestbuy. So hoping for similar converted AUD pricing when it is released in Aus.

      • I wouldn't recommend that deal if you need the laptop anytime soon. I ordered it and eventually cancelled after two weeks with no updates on shipping or delivery whatsoever.

  • Pros: Great CPU
Cons: Outdated GPU, 60Hz screen, long delivery time, slow storage

Personally for the same price I'd go for this deal (slightly worse CPU but much better GPU) or this deal (same specs but cheaper, 512GB SSD and better screen).

    • For a little bit more

      this deal is the best

      • I wouldn't recommend that one despite it looking like an excellent deal.

I ordered and paid, and then 15 days went by with zero updates on shipping or delivery times so I cancelled it. Also, there is no warranty in Australia as it's an import, so any issues and you'd have to pay to ship it back to the US leaving you without a laptop for at least a month

        • ok fair enough. Other's have already received theirs as noted on the thread but the shipping back to the US bit is will be pretty unsettling.

Thanks, you just made me feel better for not getting that laptop :) I got the Vostro 5490 and its coming on 23rd September

    • ASUS TUF A15 has a screen that only covers 55% srgb and the 144Hz is useless because the response time is awful. The Y540 has crap battery life, and is older but at least it's screen isn't terrible.
