Costs $2154 to spec up to this on the Lenovo AU store.

    • I don't think you can spec up this high on the AU store

    • Where do you even spec for the ryzen model on lenovo AU now?

    • I didn't downvote you, but if you click through to the cart and apply coupon 'LEGION-3' the price comes down to $2026.70.
      Can only spec 1650Ti though.

      Still a great deal OP

  • +1

Oooooh this is getting really tempting

  • +5

What's the deal with the warranty on this? Deal with Amazon US or Lenovo USA?

    • +2

Yeah. Would like to know this too. Do the Lenovo Legions have international warranty?

  • Any better than this one on Amazon Australia prime?

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Legion-7-4800H-Octa-core-Display-8…

    • +5

      1660ti vs 1650ti
      144hz screen vs 60hz screen

      On your link

  • Is there an estimated delivery time?

I just received my Legion 5 and the second ram is not recognised due to a faulty CPU. I might request a refund and go with this. I will have to wait over a month for a replacement anyways.

I can confirm it's a good all round laptop that will satisfy most of the regular laptop users and mid/entry level gamers.

    • If you login to Amazon U.S. the estimated delivery time varies by the shipping option selected for your location.

  • Some hope that the 1660ti will make it here affordably, tempted for this but will wait to see what happens in next month.

  • Los of reference to this having the 1650ti (on the pictures, at the beginning of the page) - any confirmation it actually had the 1660ti?

    • +2

As mentioned. The product code is for the 1660ti, 144hz FHD version. It also mention 1660ti on the same page approximately fives times, as well as 144hz. The Q&A section also says 1660ti and 144hz screen.

      • Would the power supply be US and not AUS?

Also what is the warranty on the US lenovo?

        • +1

Usually the power supplies will support ~100-240V 50-60hz. Which would make it compatible with both US and Aus grids.
However, you’d need to swap the cable (kettle cord or similar) from the wall to the power supply. They normally plug in to the power supply making it a simple swap.

  • +1

the price looks very reasonable and tempting, would be great if this was 14"

  • There is a 2060 model

    • there was, I think

  • +3

$999 for US consumers should be included with the gst for US, then extra $200 for Australian gst, and still it is cheaper than price in Australian store..laptops are very expensive in Australia..

    • +1

Well in the U.S. a lot of the sales or value added taxes are dependent on the state where you live. For example Washington state has a sales tax of 10.1% vs other states where the rate is different.

You are correct in saying that laptops in Australia are a lot more expensive then they should be vs other countries with similar populations and incomes.

    • Yes, but you get warranty. This has no warranty unless you ship it back to USA.

  • OP, state IPS and 144hz in the description, you will attract more upvotes!

  • For those looking for an Intel machine, I came across this Acer with an i7-9750H and RTX 2060 for AUD $1745, inclusive of shipping and import fees.

      3.5kg, that one heavy laptop

  • +2

Just a disclaimer. I've bought an Ideapad Flex 5 from Amazon US. It came with a broken camera which I realised after a month, and Lenovo AU are claiming that my laptop did not come with an international warranty and hence they wouldn't repair it.
Amazon does let you return it though and you can claim the postage as well.

  • How does it compare to this:
    https://www.amazon.com/Acer-i7-9750H-MaxxAudio-Keyboard-AN51…
    in particular processor and graphics
I know this only has 256gb compared to 512gb

    • +2

The AMD Ryzen 4800h is a much more powerful and energy efficient processor then the Intel 9750h. The 4800h is a 7nm, 8 core 16 thread processor. The 9750h is a 14nm, 6 core 12 thread processor. In a laptop the 1660ti is only slightly slower then a 2060 mobile However the Legion 5 Chassis has much better cooling then the Nitro. So even though on paper the 2060 mobile is better, it may be thermally restricted in its performance due to lesser cooling.

      • thanks for the clarification.
Would it be fair to say the build quality of Lenovo is much better than Acer too.
Im still using a 2012 Lenovo ideapad Y580 and almost no issues at all except it struggles to stay cool withouth external cooling pad, obviously it will struggle with modern day games.
As for Acer i have never owned one but i do remember in like 2010 my friend had a top of the range Acer gaming laptop or as he called it Acher - enough said

        • Probably best to look up online reviews of this laptop to see if you like the build quality. I can't make a direct comparison with the Acer beyond what I know about the processor, graphics and cooling based on temperatures. The Legion has a more modern toned down aesthetic, which I am seeing in competing products such as the new 2020 HP Omen. I think the Nitro has an older gamer laptop look.

    • The Nitro 5 is a bad design that overheats. This laptop is better in every way.

  • I'm not sure whether to pull the plug on this (seems like a good deal for the specs) or wait for the HP Omen 2020 stock to make its way to Aus. The HP Omen has gotten really glowing reviews, especially for its cooling. Does anyone know if the 60wh battery in the Lenovo can be swapped later to an 80wh?

    • Based on my own research. The 60whr can be replaced with the 80whr. There is no difference in the chassis. It just replaces the spot where a hdd would fit. Unfortunately in Australia there is no official 80whr battery part offered though.

      • Good to know. Thanks! HP can't seem to get stock in Aus, I might just have to jump on this

  • +1

Whats the solution for the power adapter? Would you buy an adapter or a new cord?

  • +1

I’m guessing a simple adapter I’ve had Lenovo laptops from the US in the past they’ve supported the voltage just need a cheap pin adapter.

  • +1

Hi all, I ordered one of these pc's 2 days ago and I don't have an order confirmation or tracking details yet.
It just says we will send a confirmation when your item ships.
Supposedly I need to receive item within 5-7 days and it doesn't seem like this will happen.
Anyone ordered and received on time?

    • Me too. Did you get charged?

      • I have been charged twice to be exact. Still not shipped and not sure if I should cancel. I am expecting them to release one of the two payments. I also read about thermal issues or at least temperatures around 90C but not sure if I should be concerned.

        • I haven't been charged yet which probably means it isn't coming :(

90C isn't ideal but nothing will break at that heat, it's not unusual. You could buy a laptop cooling pad if you were particularly worried.

          • +1

@RC13: Sounds good I will let you know once mine is been posted.

            • @Groaus: Just use Q-control to switch between performance modes. The highest performance mode is allows 69w for the CPU, which is the highest of all the Ryzen H series based laptops. Balanced is closer to the 45w TDP of the CPU and temps are naturally lower.

            • @Groaus: thanks, I'd appreciate that! then I'll know whether mine is likely to ship or not

              • @RC13: Posted today expected delivery on the 22nd. Way out of the original delivery timeframe but at least it is on its way.

                • @Groaus: I wonder why it said "5-7 business days" for shipping then? Seems a bit shifty to promise that then completely disregard it

                • @Groaus: Still hasn't shipped. I'm thinking it might be a no go unfortunately :(

                  • @RC13: Mine is in Sydney coming.

                    • @Groaus: Yours was already in Sydney on the 11th after a 'shipped' notification on the 9th?

This gives me hope! Mine hasn't been shipped yet and I ordered 2 days after you did.

The delivery estimates and late shipping are highly frustrating. What's the problem with taking the item out of storage and sending it? It's been a full week now for my order and it still hasn't shipped :(

                      • +1

@Oompaloompa: DHL sent me a text I am expecting mine today. To be honest they told me if a depot hasn't got stock it goes to the next one. They charged me 3 times for that reason. They advised that will release my money within 5-7 days after postage. They also gave me $15 credit for the inconvenience.

                    • @Groaus: Got it just now, it looks good apart from a dead green pixel on the taskbar.

                      • @Groaus: Awesome man, thanks for the replies! It got there so quick, which is weird after you got the 'shipped' notification only a few days ago.

I just noticed I was charged yesterday, so here's hoping that means it's on its way (or will be soon)!

The dead green pixel sucks man! I bought the same Legion 5 with the 1950ti from Lenovo a few weeks ago and have absolutely no complaints. The new Legion is a present for my gf, she's actually getting a better laptop than what I have haha (shiiit).

Are you going to return it? Or check out Lenovo Australia for warranty?

                        • @Oompaloompa: Let me know if and when it arrives! I ordered mine on the 7th and still haven't even been charged so would love to know if it's actually coming, or if I should buy a laptop somewhere else. Cheers :)

                          • @RC13: I just got the 'shipped' notification a few minutes ago. And an expected delivery date way over the one that was communicated up until now. It says 8 October now. But here's hoping it's actually here way before that, like what happened with Groaus :)

Problem is that I'm leaving my current location on the 6th, shiiit haha

                            • @Oompaloompa: Oh, interesting. I ordered the day after you (7th Sept) so hopefully I get a notification soon/today. I partially bought it for a project that's wrapping up on Oct 1 so I'll be pretty annoyed if it doesn't get here by September :(

  • It's a good deal. Currently showing as $1714.52 with conversion to AUD, but still a good deal.

  • Hi all, I received this laptop and in task manager window I can see only the 1660ti. The Radeon GPU is not showing. Is it yours the same?

    • At least in my 1650ti Legion 5 I do. See screenshot: https://ibb.co/HV3BcPP
What's different in your task manager window? It just doesn't show up at all?

      Sorry for double post.

  • Double - sorry.

    • +1

I guess I don't need the other GPU but I am afraid there is an issue with the PC. I am pretty sure I also have the motherboard Radeon graphics card from AMD although the system does not recognise it. I installed the latest drivers and did all the updates and still the same.

      • +1

Fixed it it was a BIOS setting. Amazing laptop thank you OP.

        • Contemplating ordering one of these in as its literally the specs I want in a work / light gaming laptop (recently returning the M17 R3 due to heating etc.)

What's your thoughts on it Groaus? Was importing it a scary deal? I assume its got a US power plug?

          • @Ruddaga: I am a Project manager using many spreadsheets (4 external screens) and a very light gamer. This is exactly what I need. Very powerful with business look. Only Cons the 2.4kg that is acceptable for me and the 3-4 hour battery life which is not great. I am used to Thinkpad quality but this is still decent quality you just need to be a bit more careful.
Decent screen, not amazing sound just good enough and thermals are good. If you wait you might get a better deal as a lot of new tech is coming up.
I had an issue that I resolved with Lenovo Australia customer service. 1 year warranty but you have to send to US. I am used to thinkpads that they never die so I hope this is the same. The choice is yours. Yes American power-plug but that's not an issue.

            • @Groaus: What was the issue you had with Lenovo Aus?

Yeah that sending it back to the US is a bit of a scary thought as well.

              • @Ruddaga: Not recognising second GPU it was a BIOS setting. All good now

                • @Groaus: Bit the bullet and grabbed it. How long did it take to get to you? You just using a us adapter? Or should I order a power aud plug from aus Lenovo?

                  • @Ruddaga: My order said 'shipped' on the 14th and I just got it delivered at home!

Gonna find out online why this laptop - bought for my gf - has a 230W charger. The one I ordered from Lenovo has a 170W charger. Way less bulky + way lighter. Differences in laptops: 1650ti vs 1660ti & 60Hz screen vs 133Hz screen.
Other than that it's (of course) the exact same laptop.

I am using a cheap universal power adaptor, ordered from Ebay months back. It works with any plug (EU, US, doesn't matter).

                    • @Oompaloompa: I ordered mine 3 days again and its sitting on "Order received. We will email you when we have an estimated delivery date."

Tempting to cancel the order (as no word to what is happening with it), grab the Lenovo deal of the day for 1520.00 as the gaming I do on the laptop will be light (got a beast desktop and will be upgrading to an even beastier desktop when the Ryzen 4000 / 3090 series is out).

                      https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/legion-laptops/legion-5…

Pros for this model - More space (albeit HDD), cheaper, Australian warranty

Pros for the US Amazon one - 1660ti is a lot more powerful, 144hz screen vs 60hz,

                      Thoughts?

Oh and the heavier power source isn't really a surprise. The 1660ti is ALOT more powerful than the 1650ti. They aren't even in the same league. The 1660ti can do most games on high to very high and also is a VR capable card.

                      • @Ruddaga: I've got both models here. The extra 1TB HDD space is shit to be honest. I'm definitely replacing the 1TB HDD with the 1TB
Kingston A2000 NVMe PCIe SSD (costs only $150 or less).

Seeing as you've got a desktop beast, you might consider buying the Aussie one. I personally think the 1650ti with 60Hz screen is still a beautiful machine to be honest.

On the other hand, I'm already jealous with my gf for her now having a better GPU and screen for just a bit more money hahaha.

If you do decide to wait for the US laptop, you'd probably have it at home 4 days after it's finally shipped. Was the same for both Groaus and me.
I also had to wait a full week to receive my laptop for Lenovo AUS, so I don't know if it's worth cancelling at the moment.

                        Difficult decision sir!

                        • @Oompaloompa: I'll stick with it then.

While I have the beast desktop, I appreciate having power on the go (I returned my M17 R3 last week due to over heating…. 300hz + 2080 super = crush any game at 1080p).

I felt that for 4.5k it was over kill for a laptop for work but the over heating really sealed the deal for me. Hence why I'm looking at the AMD options instead.

I feel the 4800h and the 1660ti are the perfect combo for work for me :D

What was the entire turn around since you placed the order?

                          • @Ruddaga: It really is a great setup for a laptop. The CPU is a beast + the GPU works well enough for most games!

Entire turnaround since placing order: 12 days.

It seems that, as soon as they took money from my account, the laptop was finally really on its way - although notification only showed up a few days later.

  • Finally cancelled my order today after 11 days with no confirmation or shipping updates from Amazon. Wouldn't recommend, unfortunately.

I don't think Amazon should list things as "in stock" if it takes them 2 weeks to figure out if they are actually in stock or not.

    • Did you contact Amazon Support directly to find out the situation?

      • I did actually, because I was getting frustrated with it as well.

But don't expect Customer Support to know anything more than you can find out yourself. Really they're useless. Not a problem with the people, but with the kind of information they actually have access to.

In the end I did not an answer to my questions at all about why there is such a big difference between stated and real delivery time, where the stock is and if there even is stock, why they changed my estimated delivery date 3 times or, most importantly for me, why my item was only shipped after more than a full week. Did they have to build a laptop first? Just get it out of your supposed stock and send it.

At least mine is already in Melbourne 2 days after my 'shipped' notification. Expecting it within a few days now :) so all is good and on time in the end! Communication and information is just far below the level I'm used to.

To be fair, I've only been in Australia for a year, so I'm not used to Aussie delivery times/promises/estimates. And, as such, I can't make an honest comparison with the US stuff.

    • +1

I got it from Amazon no problems. I'm in Melbourne.

  • I almost have this laptop delivered, what kind of power cable did everyone buy?

Is it the 3pin connector that goes into the slim tip adapter so that its an aussie plug at the end?

  • +1

The adapter uses a normal PC power cable to connect so just switch it out for a normal PC cable. You'll know what I mean when you get it.

I have this laptop and it is awesome. Super bargain. I have been shopping for a few Ryzen notebooks for my family each with different needs and specs. I bought this one for myself and it's simply amazing.

It's almost too good to be true for the specs.

I had actually bought the 1650 version in Australia (60hz screen) and it was already an amazing machine. I don't play many games anymore so it was plenty. I couldn't help wanting the 144hz screen though so I upgraded since it was so cheap. Sold the 1650 version at a discount. The buyer got a super deal.

    • Heck yeh its so good, perfect price/specs/performance ratio.

So glad I got it, the 3 pins connector i just used a monitor cable to plug in

  • Nice deal. If I saw this earlier, it would be harder for me to choose between this one, infinity o5 with 2060 and asus g14 with 4800hs.

Anyway I bought g14 and the 1660ti mq performs even worse than radeon without power plugged.

  • I think the price is the lowest it has been so far at $988USD, unfortunately the AUD is also lower and it converts to $1709AUD.
