30 cents or so more expensive than the Amazon US via AU deal a few weeks back. Ships from Amazon UK instead of US.
Seagate drive packages include many regions power plugs in the box that click into the power brick including 2 pin AU plug.
Internal drive is usually detected as Barracuda Pro 10TB 7200rpm. May be IronWolf or EXOS if you happen to be lucky.

  • Shuckable?

    • +1

Yes they are. As per post, you could get barracuda pro, ironwolf or Exos

  • Got this from Amazon US but the one I received was already shucked. Noticed it was a bit dodgy when the seal was broken and started taking pictures while unboxing. The power supply and usb was very out of alignment to the point I couldn't test it without opening. Sent it back to Amazon for refund.

Still going through the process of returning it and waiting for my refund.

I think I might have been very unlucky, but yeh just wanted to say it was a massive pain to wait for shipping, find out its dodge even thought it was fulfilled by Amazon us, and wait for refund.

I'm guessing people are returning those to try better luck at shucking then

honestly people should just plug it into a computer and read the disk info rather than taking it apart

      • some people are stupid, what can you do.

  • What would people's recommendation be of one of these compared to the equivalent Western Digital, in both shucked and unshucked forms?

From what I have read on the internet, other OzBargain posts and on r/DataHoarder as well as YouTube shucking videos.

Western Digital is usually cheaper per TB than Seagate and the drives more easily shuckable than Seagates, in that you have less chance of breaking the case while doing drive removal. The WD external; drives are white labelled for externals specifically and flashed with a different firmware than retail drives of a similar spec. Want to shuck your drive with a chance of returning/warrantying it then go WD. The WD drives may require a piece of tape on the third SATA Power pin due to using enterprise drives that support a new SATA standard Power Disable feature available on NAS power supplies but not on many standard PC PSU's.

Seagate external drives larger than 8TB (which is currently the highest size Barracuda Compute SMR drive which are found in the 8TB and below models) usually are just standard CMR 7200RPM drives with a SATA to USB bridge attached and put into a plastic case.

Most of the 10TB drives are Barracuda Pros but some people have been lucky to get IronWolfs or Exos which are double or triple the price of the external if purchased as a bare drive.

However some of the clips may break when you shuck the drive if you watch some of the YouTube clips for instructions. Also Seagate put foil tape over the USB to SATA adaptor board which may also cause issues when reassembling the drive for warranty. CrystalDiskInfo will show the actual model of drive contained in the enclosure.

      • Thank you for the boss level reply! Now to look into which of the potential drives may be helium filled to keep the thing cooler. I am actually more likely to run this in its enclosure if I'm honest, so it's worth me considering this as a factor.

I bought 2 of these from the special listed here a few weeks ago. I got 2 Ironwolf Pros. Shucking them was easy (following the YouTube video listed by an ozbargainer).
