It is necessary to post a comment in the “deal” thread in order to supply a “negative” vote.

Thus people need to make a post citing the reason for giving a negative vote, even if it is a reiteration of what has been previously stated.

No such threshold applies to positive votes.

      • Okay, gottit.

    • +3

You need to comment before you can neg a deal. If you don't give a good reason, the neg gets revoked.

Edit: oops, dscott85 beat me to it.

  • +8

I love Amazon Prime, but this is normal price.

People who are condemning the negs need to understand that the Mods are making us do it - they want to leave it up to the Ozbargain community to vote + or - .

  • +5

That's the usual price, no offer.

  • +6

How do people not know about this and who are the muppets upvoting it

    • +4

the muppet's names (& shame) can be revealed by clicking on the 'votes' tab above the OP

    • because it has been helpful to many of the upvoters… approximately 3 to 1 compared to the neggers who say they have to comment for their negative vote to be included… accept it people .. there are those that agree with the op and there are those that don't… therefore nasty comments reflect upon you more than the original poster imho.

      • Do you find it ironic that from the very play you gleaned your moniker .. that the comment “Yon Cassius has a lean and hungry look.” while seemingly 'nasty' was proved to be correct!??

    • +1

Exactly. You can easily see the pricing options when signing up for prime.

Not a true ozbargainer if you don't explore the options when signing up.

  • +5

As with previous posts, the regular price for years is not a bargain.

  • +1

Thanks OP - I had totally missed that this was possible and have been stupidly paying the monthly fee for ever!

    • +3

Can't tell if sarcastic or not.

      • -1

If you can't work it out, plus voted so you could assume not sarcasm.

  • +3

I don’t get all the downvotes, are you worried this blocks other good deals of surfacing on your feed? Or do you just want to show that you already know this?

It’s not that common for subscription services like this to be discounted this much for annual prepayments. Think Netflix, Apple iCloud, Spotify etc. Most people who were early adopters of Prime didn’t want to go all in for the year before seeing how much they would use it. I’m going to change from monthly to annual now, thanks OP!

    • +5

Have a read of the comments for the answer to your question.

    • -3

It's a classic OzBargain "stacks on" power-trip from the neggers. Nothing more, nothing less.

It has helped 86 people (at the time of writing this comment) feel better/superior but all will be forgotten in a day or two and they'll return to their miserable existence as anonymous keyboard warriors.

      • +6

I disagree. People are voting against the deal because it’s the standard price.

Your comment sounds very upset and emotional.

        • I'm sorry if it sounds that way to you.

        • +2

If a service offers 2 pricing models, only one of them can be ‘the standard’. As the default option is monthly, that makes that the standard option.

          • +3

@bozbargain: But comparing a monthly service and an annual services isn’t necessarily a direct comparison as your money is tied up with the annual service. There are reasons why annual memberships are cheaper.

They are both the standard price for what they offer. When has the price been more cheaper or more expensive? It’s always been this standard price and as such isn’t a deal.

            • +1

@gamemaster: So are you suggesting I should start checking out different forums if this is exactly the type of ‘deal’ I’m interested in (as you seem to believe this should not have been posted/shared)?

      • +3

they'll return to their miserable existence as anonymous keyboard warriors.

You are taking this way too seriously! Take a break, relax.

        • OzBargain has become a sport, it seems. I'm just playing along now.

  • +1

so you can say not a bargain, but if you say not a deal, your negative vote gets removed ?
    Nice

    • Inappropriate use of the comment

  • +6

Not a deal, regular price for yearly subscription. In fact… its the ONLY price for yearly subscription

  • +5

This is the normal price for a yearly subscription. It has been at this price for a long time.

  • +2

Need to neg to bring down the ridiculous upvote

    • +4

lol the deal will prolly win OzB's Deal of the Month ;-)

  • +3

Pair this with an AMEX offer, I've had it show up the last two years where I got a % of my Amazon membership back up to $30. So it ends up being more like $29 for the following year.

  • +4

The iPhone comes with a free Calculator that OP used for this calculation.
Can we add that as a deal?

    • -7

Tell us more about the bargains you have shared in the seven years that you've been a user on OzBargain.

      • +5

I haven't cause I didn't find anything worth posting, I have helped in other ways though if you care to check my profile

  • +3

Thanks OP, was paying monthly, somehow missed the annual option.

  • +4

Standard price is not a deal. A deal would be if they reduced the price for the annual subscription, not simply being an annual subscription. If this is a deal, then so is any annual subscription pricing system.

  • +2

    Not a deal…

  • +1

OP, you saved me $25, got a pro rata refund… based on the votes and the gratitude comments, your effort has made a difference to quite a few people. Well done!

    • How did you do that?

      • +1

I'm paying monthy at the moment so they automatically change me to annual and refunded the remaining monthly charge pro rata

        • I've been on the monthly plan since
June this year and they will only refund $6.09 if I change to a yearly plan.
How did you manage to get such a large refund?

          • +1

@EarlyBird: He/she has saved $25 (roughly) on monthly vs annual and as a result of mid month switch received a pro rata refund for the part month in advance which is now covered with annual.

            E.g. they didn't get a $25 refund/credit.

  • +3

    normal price

  • +5

Thanks OP but this is the normal Amazon Prime annual payment plan price. You can save money by paying annual payment plan prices instead of monthly payment plan prices most of the time for a lot of things, for example, private health insurance, home and contents insurance, car insurance, income protection insurance, life insurance, pet insurance, car registration, gym membership, streaming subscription services, Microsoft subscription (Xbox Live, Game Pass, and Microsoft 365), PlayStation Plus membership, Nintendo Switch Online, AWS/Microsoft Azure/Google Cloud membership, Adobe Creative Cloud membership, Club Catch, Kogan First, file sync/backup cloud storage, security camera cloud storage, web hosting subscription, etc.

  • +1

What about electricity pay on time discounts or electricity/gas deals where you get a % off for providing direct debit details? Surely some people have setup their electricity account and don't know about this? Also, if you're in Victoria your prices may have fallen due to the VDO regulations…just saying

  • +2

Ah, I see, I've been re-directed to OzRRPAlert.com.au again. Lol.

In all seriousness, the yearly membership is worth it. So, hope everyone who didn't already know about it got something out of this alert.

  • +5

This is normal. It's not time limited or anything.

  • +3

No deal. This is the highest price I've seen for yearly subscription.

  • +5

This is not new man, i'm on annual plan with exact same $59.

  • +3

No deal, same annual price as always.

  • +2

    Thanks OP bought 3

  • +2

Thanks OP. Was legitimately helpful for me as have been paying by month and didn't know there was a yearly option. Appreciated.

  • -6

Wow these neg comments. This is really encouraging for me. I'll be sure to post no more deals in the future 😂 keep it going. As for the rehashing of the same comment over and over in just a few different words that is great. We get your point but I guess you need to add a comment for neg votes so understandable.

    • I'll be sure to post no more deals in the future
      TY

    • +3

This is OzB's version of the Culture Wars.

"Generation Snowflake" vs the old-fashioned "tough love" brutal honesty school.
Please don't be discouraged, whether the post was a mistake or not doesn't matter.

    • +1

Take it as a lesson learnt and move on. Their negatives votes are valid. However, at the same time, look at all the people you've just saved paying that extra 30%

    • +3

nice try! … but Dupe policy has a 6 month time limit before reposting the info on a long active deal IIRC

  • just changed from monthly to annual membership. Not a deal but still a saving

  • +3

This is the usual annual price.
    Where's the bargain.

  • Thanks OP, I didn't know paying annually was an option.

  • -2

    Awesome deal!

  • +7

This is literally the standard yearly price

  • +6

No deal it’s a standard price.

  • +3

No bargain here - how do people not know?

    • -5

Are you really in a bubble. Do you vote for the Liberals?

  • +3

isnt it standard price for annual? not a deal

  • +3

    Just bought 5

  • +3

Unfortunately, I have to agree with the negs as there is no bargain in the standard annual price.

  • +3

Should we be posting Disney+ yearly subscription as a deal? Or PSN+ for a year?

It's no brainer that some services offer a discount on a one year subscription over month to month. Why is this even a deal?

    • +1

Please someone post every single one in existance. You can also post every single public transport yearly ticket whilst you're at it. All guaranteed cheaper than buying a 2 hourly twice a day. Some people's mind will be blown.

  • +2

How many downvotes does it take for mods to do something?

    • +1

      When Downvotes > Upvotes.

As of now its the opposite, so Ozbargainers let's do the needful to get this deal out.

  • +3

As has been said, it's been this way since day 1. Not a bargain, you're just unobservant.

  • Thanks for post. changed!

    • Completely untrue on multiple fronts.

      sweet affiliate links to Amazon

      (1) This deal has no affiliation.

It's linked to an uploaded file, not the Amazon website. We could update it, but the truth is income is irrelevant to moderation so it was never considered/noticed. It would only be updated to a website if it was better for the deal.

      5k affiliate clicks

      (2) If it did have affiliation, only guests see affiliate links. Those 5k clicks include clicks by members, all of who are never exposed to affiliate links.

      great source

      (3) Affiliate income isn't great, rather the minority of OzBargain income. We only serve affiliate links to particular sites, and only to guests, and only via the main link.

and will not delete it. Why?

      (4) OzBargain moderation is never dictated by revenue, it's not even discussed/considered in decision making. If we were revenue driven there would be far more profitable/less painless ways of doing it. Just because many other sites are purely revenue driven, doesn't mean we are. The owner of OzBargain (scotty) earns revenue to pay staff, who he treats well and gives $10,000s to charity multiple times throughout the year, every year: Reference.

It's an easy accusation to make and I understand it might be behaviour that you are used to seeing elsewhere, but that doesn't make it true here. We are always as transparent as possible, but it seems this accusation is mentioned reguarly regardless.

      • -2

Fair enough, I guess I was wrong.
Why leave up a post that has 100+ negs then?

        • Moderation reply:

Voting has no correlation with moderation. There are good deals, there are bad deals and there are indifferent deals, that's up for the community to decide.

          My personal opinion:

There are 1000s of worse/less useful posts than this one, some of which are of no value/no interest to anyone.

I would rather have a deal post that helped 100 people save money, even if another 1000 people already knew about it. Than remove the post completely and not have those 100 people save money, for the sake of 1000 who already knew about it, having to scroll past it.

          • @hamza23: That's a good personal opinion. It's not always about being so narrow sighted that the deal only has to apply to you and you only.

  • +1

    Thanks - switched to annual

  • +1

Why is this getting upvoted. I thought that's the normal price?

  • +1

Upvote from me. I subscribed month-to-month to see how much I'd use it, then forgot there was an annual sub option.
    Thanks for the reminder OP.

  • I just want to say thank you to OP because I've been subbed to prime since day 1 and wasn't aware of this.

    • I think it's more the Ozbargain dicks who think that the world revolves around them are the problem

  • +1

Thanks OP. Been a Prime member for over a year, and never realised this! (Face palm). And to those who neg this as not being a deal, it is. So there.

  • Been around for years, since launch.

  • -1

No bargain, just the normal price.

  • +1

    Switched.. thanks for the reminder
