cant you get a google app for this?

    • I personally wouldn't purchase one as i'd only use it once a year. Good for if you are a frequent traveler though (e.g. business).
I think the problem with phone apps is that you need to be connected to internet for them to work, most of them wont work offline, or wont work well offline.

google translate you can use for text, vocabulary and communicate what you want to say offline, but not in real time without an internet connection.

I use google translate everyday, and the expense of these devices makes it not worth it.

      • You can simply choose a data plan from our list of selected carriers in different countries and regions directly on Genesis.
You can also one click to share the network to your mobile phones, tablets and other devices when you go abroad.

    • I've seen one hotel use these at their counter.

I bought one when they were developing and selling it on Indiegogo (for around $191). I also got another brand (Travis). Found Google Translate on the phone is better because it does what this does and much easier to use because it can use the phone screen, instead of the rubbish little one on this.

One of the big problems is checking that it's recognised what you've said correctly before you hit translate. They blather one about how their tech is better than Google's. I said ok, make it an app then. Much cheaper and then it can be on the phone instead of another device to carry around and have to charge. Also you're not stuck with the processor in this, it gets updated with the phone. Instead of the silly money this is it could be $20 IF it's better than Google Translate.

Another issue is no-one has the patience to use them. You have to explain to the other person to speak in short batches and wait for it.
