With the launch of NBN Gigibit plans I know a few people on OzBargain have been waiting for a decent deal to come up for the ASUS RT-AX88U, (I was one) the Sydneytec eBayStore have it for $468.06 after applying eBay Plus Coupon code PARTY21

This looks to be the best price since the Mwave/Bing Lee deal and ASUS Christmas promotion back in December 2019.

Merlin has stopped firmware updates on this until asus fix their stuff afaik.

    • could you share the source?

      • Ahh maybe i was wrong.. thinking of the other router. (RT-AX86U)

      • while you're waiting you could look at the amazon reviews

asus made the only router that literally burnt out on me within warranty…. burned once is enough

valid comment i thought looks like the haters are stalking me mods….

I really want this router. Too bad I have cancelled my eBay Plus membership. :(

    • Me too, but I would wait for a sub-400 deal like last christmas

      • Alas, those deals may not be coming. Thanks to COVID-19 the demand for home networking equipment has been through the roof.

        • Your are probably right, it seems like that my ax wireless adapter is going to stick with my ac68u for a little longer

Last deal pre-COVID was the best price from Bing Lee, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/501521

I got excited when I saw the search alert, but still not cheap enough compared to previous deals. At this point I'll wait for 6E if I'm going to throw so much money at a router.

  • What so good about these with only 4 antennas?

i have the 88U and its a brilliant router, however like the other poster above its causing me grief, about once every month my 5Ghz radio just stops working, i have to do a number of cold reboots to get it operational again. 2.4Ghz works fine. apparently, this is a known hardware fault, unfortunately i didnt discover that until after my warranty period so im stuck with a router that works but is high maintenance for me and the family.

as im a glutton for punishment, im looking forward to the successor of the 88u, whenever that comes out. GL.

Will never buy any Asus router when it comes to high end models. As a five years AC88U user I've had enough.

    • what is comparable?

      • I'm running on RAX120 by NetGear. Way better. Just simply amazing. No more those tweaks which make you feel like a geek but in fact completely unnecessary for consumers like me who just want a fast, reliable network for gaming and smart devices (Shouldn't a product be tweaked at its best when manufactured? Since when do customers become the final QA for products? I'm tired of it). I can barely think of this router in my daily life - like your knees or stomach, you know they're running at their best when you can't feel their existence. Same applies to your home router. And in addition, RAX120 utilises solution by Qualcomm which has noticeable better performance and much lower TDP brought by more advanced semiconductor process. It's just cool and quiet.

        • still waiting for a netgear router to burn out on me…so thats what i use - cheap deals pop up but very few issues with them for the last 5- 10 years.

  • Interesting, why do the high end routers offer 6Gb wireless connection but all the wired ports are only 1Gb?

    • Cost. This is a 2018 router and it doesn't actually run at 6Gbps by the way. The max it can do is around 1.6Gbps on two concurrent devices over 5Ghz. Single device it's limited to 1Gbps whether Wifi or Ethernet.

And it does have WAN agregation so you can run 2 Gigabit internet to the router.

      • Did not expect to have specs inflated so much, Asus promised 802.11ax (5GHz) : up to 4804 Mbps

    man, this is cheap!

  • question - i have a nbn 100 plan and i got 106.57 mbps in download, 37.89 in upload on my laptop,

will this router make them faster?

    • very unlikely

    • Yes, I have the previous RT-AC88Uband on nbn 100 plan I am getting 109mbps where as my old router i was getting 104mbps 😁. Considering an upgrade to this however still a router at this price point is out of my reach
