  • Is this one of those gaming routers or it's good for everything?

    • +1

It's good for everything and has Wifi 6. Though my main reason for buying this is to handle my growing smarthome devices, with my AC68U now having occasionally drops out on 27 devices. I will just AIMesh the AC68U with this.

      • Thanks for the reply. Do you think this will be an overkill for a two bedroom apartment and about half a dozen devices connected at a time? I am on TPG HFC and don't game or anything. The biggest bandwidth I have to deal with is my 4K TV that I hardly use, and the occasional torrenting. I am considering to get AC68U, but might get this one for a future-proofing if it's worth it (though it's little bit over my budget).

        • +1

Yes this is overkill for your needs at the moment but that doesn't necessarily stop everyone I know.

You're probably better off getting something cheaper unless you're planning to buy at least a couple of wifi 6 client devices in the next 6 months or so.

I'm planning to wait about a year or so before getting something like this, when it'll be cheaper and there should be plenty of wifi 6 client devices on the market. Currently there are hardly any.

          • @B3: Very good points. Yeah, I thought it might be an overkill for my needs so I might go with the 86U instead. Ta

        • +1

Would be over kill for you. My AC68U could handle up to around 20 devices flawlessly, however as I add more Yeelight and other Smart things, I notice some of the lights begin to falling out. It also an issue as my very furthest outdoor camera is Wifi 2.4Ghz only (Argus 2) and the connection isn't the best. So now I have set up the AX88U at the rear of my house as Router and AC68U as AIMesh at the front of my house, effectively clearing ALL blindspots and also to manage the ever growing number of Smart stuffs.

Another thing is that I also prefer Ethernet port for the many PCs in my house. The AX88U feature 8 Gigabit port so that's a plus. Before, some of them was going through a PoE Switch and not getting full Gigabit.

  • Good price with Bing Lee + $40 Cashback!! Got one. $6 shipping fee for me

  • The AX11000 version is down to $510.3 also with $60 cashback, i'll be going with that. Thanks for the heads up on binglee sale!

  • Thanks! Have had an alert for AX88U for months and just bought the Bing Lee one. The main reason I prefer this series is that it supports this excellent firmware:

  • nothing on the AC86U's?

      • +1

I think your link is to the AC68U and not the AC86U.

A tip, i purchased the AC86U last week for $387.85 from device-deals on ebay and got Ebay to price match Amazon that had it for $275. Ebay will beat it by 5% and refund you in a coupon code. Including the $20 Asus cashback, price match voucher and one day cashrewards 12% cashback, the router costed just under $200.

        • Oh, you're right. I misread it and thought arjay was asking about the AC68U.

So does eBay price match Amazon and other retailers? Amazon has it for $277.52 right now. What is the process like? Do you buy it from any eBay AU seller and then contact eBay for the price match, or you ask them a price match before you purchase it?

          • +1

@AussieDaddy: Ebay will price match from a list of approved retailers and Amazon is on the list. The price match is similar to Officeworks where they take the match price and beat it by 5% and provide you a voucher for the difference of what you paid. You can either go on chat with them before you purchase on Ebay or you have up to 48 hours to price match it after the purchase.

More info and list of approved retailers here: https://pages.ebay.com.au/buy/Best_Price_Guarantee/

One more thing, i think there is a cap of $150 for the price match.

        • Arent the ones from ebay all grey imports?

  • How's the range for this for a two storey house?

    • +1

Would be OKish if not mediocre, for multiple stories house better get Mesh system. Unless you have a spare ASUS AIMesh Router around it could be useful. Recommend to use Ethernet backhaul to setup AIMesh and choose connection type as Ethernet. That way it will dedicate the full dual band to devices rather than backhaul and deteriorate the performance.

      • Cheers, I ordered this one earlier today so we will see how I go.

  • Will these work in conjunction with the wifi on a Telstra DJA0231 with one to cover each end of the house and hard wired in between?

I.e. the Asus as a very smart access point?

  • Thanks guys! I think this is the cheapest its ever been, I've on the fence at $450, glad i held out :)

    • Yeah, I almost bought it on Mwave for $398 then try to look around one more time and found Binglee at $370.30. This is cheapest price it has been for Australian stock so insta buy. With Cashback that's $330.30, so close to the price of AC88U on sale.

      • Binglee is upto $529 now - welp

        • Discount at check out.

  • How does this compare to Netgear Orbi AC3000 RBK50?

    • +1

This is Wifi 6 router. For specs it has faster CPU, faster Wifi (even without Wifi 6 clients), more Ethernet Port, and it's Black. It however is dual band whereas the Orbi is Tri-band which is much more ideal for Mesh system (or you can just Ethernet backhaul the Mesh and skip the dedicated 5.0Ghz). I use Ethernet backhaul for my AC68U in AIMesh setup instead of Wifi.

Also this supports 2Gbps Internet. You can use WAN + LAN 4 port aggregate to do 2Gbps internet. Not that >100Mbps NBN is even common.

  • Will this work with FTTN in apartment ? I have belong modem router on NBN but fibre is nit upto home.
Some1 can guide b4 the deal is over ?

    • It's a router, so you just have to connect it to the ISP provided modem and bridge mode it. That way it works with ANY type of NBN.

However, this is fairly robust router that I believe most people won't need. It also has dedicated "gaming" feature like WTFast, which again most people don't even care about. Why do you want to buy it, it's fairly expensive. For average user a Mesh system could provide better coverage for less bucks.

      • Honestly, i dont know even y i always wanted to buy this. Maybe its to dashing nd i havent seen such a lower price for this b4.

        • +1

It's reasonably future proof and at $330.30 it's at the lowest price ever for local stock. So yeah, Ozbargainer, buy now think later.

  • I used shopback and got $10 back. So don't forget to use it

    • Dang, noticed Shopback has $10 off for Bing Lee plus 3% cashback. Well too late, router is already up and running for half a day.

      • O man! I saw that when I was placing my order and thought it was a $10 on top of the 3% cashback all from ShopBack. Turns out it was a code I had to use on Bing Lee. I was wondering why only the 3% cashback tracked and not the $10. I played myself.

    • Is that still active?

  • Binglee out of stock wondering if the do rain check. Hmm…

  • I am glad I pulled the trigger on it last night after having it open on a tab for hours. $40 cashback from Asus and $10 cashback from Shopback on Bing Lee (I think there's 3% cashback from Shopback too but that didn't track yet) in addition to the 30% discount in cart, it came down to 326.3. I would rather have this one than the RT-AC86U for future-proofing.

  • Quite odd, I checked my account today and its not shown under my recent order. My afterpay still active though…

  • Does anyone know how to set this up for TPG HFC? And no, I don't care for VoIP. Tia

    • +1

Plug the Connection Box into the Router and it should automatically set up the internet. Otherwise, plug it into the Modem and set Modem into bridge mode and it will do the rest.

      • Cheers. I have to figure out how to set the modem into bridge mode as I have never done that before. Hopefully there are a lot of instructions of how to do that on the net.

        • +1

Not all Modems do, so you may need to contact TPG support. Be aware with Bridge mode you say bye bye to VOIP but that's not a problem for VOIP as you said so.

You can just ignore birdge mode and plug it into modem it will do the rest. However that way you just use it as an Access Point, and add another layer on your network. To most users it's fine, just turn off WiFi on modem and strictly setup everything via your router. You lose some the ability to VPN your entire network but you probably don't need that. I setup NordVPN for my network but ended up turning it off most of the time as a) lower speed (dropped from 110Mbps to 90Mbps, yes with this powerful router) and b) can't watch Prime Video.

          • @Bigboomboom: Thanks for the detailed comment. Yeah, will have to do some research (probably visit Whirlpool site) once it's delivered. Hopefully it will go smoothly.

  • Has anyone got it delivered and its on its way yet?

    • Mine is still saying processing. I paid with PayPal and the money is still pending in my account so I am not sure if that has anything to do with it and that they will ship it as soon as it's in their account.

      • Same - mine in PROCESSING status too

    • I've followed up with them and they said they have 1000s of huge back log of orders to be fulfilled. Its going to be a while…

      • Are we entitled to any sort of compensation for this to take that long?

        • No, nothing much you can do since the surge of sales during Black Friday. You have the option to cancel the order, just call them up.

  • Something just doesn't add up. I sent them a message yesterday asking them when it was going to be shipped as it was stuck on processing since Saturday. Now the order has disappeared from my account and I haven't heard from them. What the hell!?

    • Probably cancelled. Lucky I picked it up the very Saturday after. The lady processing my pick up order said it was selling fast.

      • It still doesn't make sense as the item is showing in stock, and they already took the money out of my account. It has been there as of late Thursday when I sent them the message and have realized late Friday that it disappeared. If they ran out of stock I could understand, but it's showing in stock.

        • +1

Happened to me as well, but after chasing around and they said my order is still valid and reason for the order missing from the order history is because of their web order issue. Anyway they forwarded me copy of my order and told me that it will be fulfilled early next week. But if it doesn’t, then I might as well cancel it.

          • @cloudie9: Cheers. Will give them a call.

          • +1

@cloudie9: Yeah, just called them and I was that they're having issues with their website and that it hasn't been cancelled. It will be shipped next week and they'll send me a tracking number then. :D

            • @AussieDaddy: Just got a reply from Bing Lee after following up both phone and emails that my router has been shipped today! Also, it somehow show up under my order history account too!

              • @cloudie9: Unfortunately mine hasn't shipped yet, and it isn't showing in my account after it disappeared late last week. Will see how things will turn out in the next couple of days.

                • +1

@AussieDaddy: When I called up, they said they are trying their hardest ability to ship out orders by the first come first serve basis. So looks like I am in one of the first batch orders. I am sure you will have yours soon.

                  • @cloudie9: Placed the order on Saturday November the 30th and it hasn't shipped yet. And an item I bought on eBay from China on the 4th of December has been delivered today. These guys are jokes! I have been waiting on their chatline for more than an hour this afternoon and eventually gave up when no one responded, although I have been number 1 on the queue for ages. Sent them an email on last Thursday and they didn't even bother to reply. I'll stick to other sellers in the future.

                    • @AussieDaddy: If it helps I ordered mine on the 30th at 5am (was in the states) and mine still hasn’t shipped either. I’ve got through twice and they assured me it’s getting shipped from Sydney by the end of this week… but yes they’re pretty crap and I’ll take my business elsewhere next time as well

                      • @bowtiehoon: Yeah they didn’t ship as promised…
“Above all, we really appreciate your understanding, needless to say we have been dealing with much adversity from an overwhelming amount of orders, delays with Australia Post going way over capacity to our warehouse continually filling up with smoke from the Bush fire Pollution.”

It is what it is I guess…

                    • +1

@AussieDaddy: If it helps, I ordered mine on the 29th of Nov at 10:53pm (Adelaide) and I followed up numerously, 1/12, 3/12 and finally 10/12 got my shipping notification and tracking number. 15/12 got it delivered today. So I guess you just have to be persistent…

                      • +1

@cloudie9: Thanks, cloudie9. Mine was shipped on Thursday evening. Estimated delivery on Monday so all good.

                        • @AussieDaddy: Mans I got dicked for being nice and understanding… guess I have to yell at someone tomorrow :/

                          • @bowtiehoon: They kept me waiting on the chat-line for more than an hour on Thursday and in the end I left them a passive aggressive message. Although they still didn't respond to my message, a couple of hours later I received an email that it has been shipped. They're really bad when it comes to communication with customers. Unless I really have to, like an item that has been heavily discounted and hard to buy anywhere else, I will try to stay away from this company in the future.

                            • +1

@AussieDaddy: Bing Lee, at times, will have pretty good deals, however, I am not surprised that they process item at a very slow pace. Earlier end of last year, when I purchased 500gb T5 Samsung portable SSD, it was so slow (waited almost 2 weeks) and I had to get eBay to intervene to refund my money. But when I did that, they start dispatching it. Therefore, you gotta to be persistent if you want your item.

  • Has anyone heard from Asus after they lodged their $40 claim yet? Didn't even receive a confirmation email or anything after I submitted mine, not sure if that's normal.

    • +1

I got confirmation email, but it takes up to 8 weeks after promotion end for cashback.

      Dear Customer,

Thank you for signing up for ASUS POWER YOUR HOME WI-FI WITH AIMESH Promotion.

Your application has been approved. You will receive your cashback within 8 weeks after the promotion period is over.

Thank you for your support for ASUS.

      Kind regards

      • Yeah, I know the cashback will take up to 8 weeks, but haven't received any emails or anything from them after I submitted my claim. How long did it take for you to receive the confirmation email after you lodged yours?

        • +1

1 week after I lodged mine, and it's 8 weeks after promotion end (31/12) not 8 weeks after acceptance.

  • Just received an email saying my application has been approved and that I wait for "up to 8 weeks after the end of this promotion to receive your prize". I was kinda nervous but they came through at last. 😄
