Should be pretty well known by the community, currently a decent price with the ebay sale. Absolutely jacked from the usual $149ish but with the discount it’s still cheaper than recent sales.

Honestly if you have to ask, probably mesh.
If you want easy setup, go with one of the others. you need to setup unifi controller to effectively run these.
Actually no unifi controller is needed for the 'Lite' model.
This is a great entry level option for sturdy Wifi.
there are a bunch of factors.
If you have these hard wired to the network, and you can run the unifi controller software on a NAS or something - they'll leave the mesh system for dead.
If you're running them "offline" (ie without the controller software) and you're just relying on wifi comms between them - it'll be much the same.
Of course, these are ceiling mounted so you should get better wifi reception regardless as they're less likely to be in a corner of a room or behind other objects etc.
We have two of these at home and they've been flawless for the last few years. Easily the best investment into the home network. We have the unifi controller running as a docker on a synology NAS
Does the controller software have to be running all the time? I’ve just booted it up on my windows machine whenever I want to configure something.
Maybe I should run my old RPi 1b as the controller.
I ran it off a Pi for a while, then moved it to a docker container off my NAS, which was very stable. Then I moved the controller to the UDM, if I dump the UDM I'll be happy to run it on the NAS again.
No you don't and having this with the controller is pointless. Controller is only worth running when you have a full unifi ecosystem that includes the USG and a Switch to actually see your network stats.
Running it off a RaspPi is simples. Have mine alongside piHole and HA
You can run the controller on an AWS Linux (free tier) instance.
@harry2015: Google cloud too with compute engine
Lmfao you know the controller is only needed for a setup right. They do not need to be running to have WiFi either lan or mesh
For the price I would say the Tenda MW3 but no where can I find if the they support Ethernet back haul. I've emailed Tenda support and they claim all of their mesh solutions support it, but fail to link me where it says this in the manual.
FWIW I run a ubiquiti mesh network at home and i can't fault it.
mw6 has eth backhaul if that helps (i've never looked into the mw3)
If you're prepared to cable this to a sensible install location, then this is a great and easy and incredibly solid option.
This comment applies to this 'Lite' model only, which can be readily and easily setup with the UniFi mobile app.
As far as the other models go i believe these need re-configuration after a power out or something, but this might have changed.
My Unifi knowledge has become rusty over the last few years.Setup of anything other than the UAP-AC-LITE potentially becomes more complicated.
These have great internal processors and radios at a very low price point and handle multiple devices at great speeds with ease.If it's just going to be stuck in a corner then you might be better off setting up a mesh system.
Unifi APs support Mesh, yes mesh over Wifi
These can just be setup with the App on your mobile device. No need to install the controller software. Can even delete the app after - if you want to reset the WAP to defaults can just use the little pin hole on the back.

Lots of people are not aware of the possibility of setting these up without a controller.
Replying to this and upvoting for visibility. You can run the controller on an AWS Linux (free tier) Instance.
None of my friends are able to do it (too technical for them).
But they can set it up via phone app like @patrioticpickle and @virtual81 are suggesting.
I've got 19 devices (sonoffs, Google homes, the usual crap) on my old Asus N66U and because most of my devices can only run on 2.4ghz, I feel like it's becoming overloaded.
Would I be better off upgrading to something like a new TP-Link ax20 with Wifi 6 for around $200 or just one of these? What have you got that is WiFi 6?
Only my Note10+. But I thought i'd be future proofing myself a bit more
I'd still got with a unifi. Maybe a inwall option instead if you can
UniFi 6 Lite access point is coming. Soon. (It was available in Early Access store in US some time ago).
UniFI 6 In-Wall will follow (It is found in FCC database). But I assume they won't be that cheap.
If you are a geek (you mentioned Sonoff and usual crap) you might like Ubiquti.
@SickDmith: Thanks for both of your input. I think you've swayed me to ubiquti but probably the lite and then an upgrade down the line.
This compared to a mesh network solution such as the Tenda MW3/6 or Deco M5?
