Send Your First Parcel for $1 @ Sendle

401

This is supposedly a Gumtree-Sendle offer, but they don't seem to link to each other, so you can also send non-Gumtree parcel for $1 (EBay sale, present, etc) if you sign up Sendle as a new customer from their promotion link. Typical cost for 5kg/20L via Sendle Premium is $14.95, with a surcharge of $13 for regional areas.

Available for new customers only for parcels to domestic destinations, maximum size 5kg/20L.
The promotion begins at 00:01 August 10th 2020 and ends at 11:59 September 20th AEST (“Promotion Period”).
To claim your $1 shipping offer, please add a credit card to your account.
Once you've added a credit card, you'll see the discounted $1 shipping applied to your order.

P.S. They are a front end company using Couriers Please and Fastway couriers (like third party mobile phone service providers reselling service on the main mobile networks). I find that they are no better or worse than other companies (Aust Post , TNT etc). Once in a while, there'd be a stuff up just like the others.

I would never send an item on Gumtree unless the payment was a direct deposit

    • +7

the tips for gumtree purchases is to never use direct deposit

      • Why no direct deposit?
I remember asking a bank, and they said Direct Deposits cannot be reversed, once it is sent it is sent.
So just make sure the money has landed in your account, before dispatching it.

        • +4

I think that tip might be for buyers, not sellers, for exactly the reason you've described.

          • +1

@JerryB: I buy and sell by post occasionally on Gumtree and I think you can avoid scammer sellers to a pretty good extent if you know what to look out for. If someone is selling lots of brand new stuffs, even at not-ridiculously prices as a private seller, it is definitely a sign of warning. On the other hand if a seller has a plethora of household craps posted up over the years he/she is much more likely to be a genuine private seller.

The thing with Gumtree is there is absolutely no buyer protections if you pay by bank transfers, just like on eBay there is almost no seller protection if buyer pay by credit cards. Even if both buyer and sellers are genuine and honest this would be an issue when the courier screws up and one party has to bear the bulk of the loss.

      • +1

I think Gumtree deliberately choose not to implement a proper feedback system to restrict the bulk of their transactions to face-to-face pickups to avoid competing with eBay.

        • Gumtree is owned by eBay….

  • Are these guys their own network or are they suffering the same stresses as aust post?

    • +2

They use Couriers Please and Fastway.

    • I've had stuff sent from Wollongong to Brisbane arrive in about 48 hours. This was around the end of July though - things could have changed.
Could be wrong but I think they use a variety of courier companies.
I believe they used FastWay/Aramex for that delivery.

      • +12

        Fastway. Screw that.

        • +2

When you submit the order and payment, the label will show you the courier company (wish they'd tell you that in advance). If it says "Fastway", I'd cancel the order (they will refund) and try Interparcel or Aust Post instead :-)

    • very little of it goes by air these days, its all on trucks

  • +7

Please do not post your Gumtree® sh!t.

    Face 2 face cash only.

    Thanks for reading.

    God bless.

Good advice however the OP should simply amend the title and put in a disclaimer.

Send Your First Parcel to friends or family for $1 @ Sendle (via Gumtree)

  • Sendle is one of those that can't be sent to Parcel Collect or the Post Office I assume?
I was told it apparently costs $5 to receive certain parcels

    • +1

No couriers deliver to Post office (except Startrack with a surcharge). However I have received EBay parcels at Woolworths collection points with Sendle labels.

  • If only Australia had a service like Sagawa Express.

    • Simply the best.

    • +2

Well we did; AusPost ran a cash-on-delivery service, but it was discontinued last November.

In all honesty, this still didn't provide any protection to the buyer though, they had to pay for the package to be handed over and it just as much could've been a box of rocks as anything else. What would be amazing would be some paid intermediary that would inspect the good was as described before moving it on, ensuring fairness for both parties, I presume the absurd expense of manpower of such a proposition is a massive barrier to entry though.

      • -3

The online service with protection for buyer and seller already exists - it's called eBay.

      • Oooh, I'm just strictly talking about punctuality and reliability which it appears that all couriers suffer in Australia.

  • +1

Hope some sucker doesn't fall into a scam because of cheap postage. Number one rule with gumtree is face to face meeting, cash on delivery. The moment you make exceptions you'll get scammed.

    • Could do PayPal on gumtree

  • +2

Both couriers please and Fastway are absolute garbage and I refuse to use them under any circumstance.

    • what do you use instead?

      • +2

Auspost normally. reliable tracking, actually deliver on the day they said they'll deliver. Longer than usual delivery times now but they're upfront about it not lie about it and not come 2 days past the "COMING TODAY" delivery date.

Pickups are easier as well, been to a fastway depo, never doing that ever again.

        • I've had a Aust Post Parcel from Melbourne to Canberra which took 4 weeks, and they kept saying it would come the next day for around 3 weeks every single day.

          • @lplau: thats bad. I guess it's all just all luck then.

            • @lawyerz: Yea, all luck. I've had some good and bad experiences with most of the postal services, couriers please, fastway (by far the worst), Aust Post.
The one which i haven't had many bad experiences with was Star Track (yes its owned by Aust Post) but it is always very expensive.

          • @lplau: 2 weeks ago in Melbourne postage to the VERY NEXT SUBURB - took a week to be delivered.

Day 1 - Received by Australia Post
Day 5 - Item processed at facility
            GRANVILLE, SYDNEY NSW
Day 8 - Onboard for delivery
Delivered - Left in a safe

Melbourne to Adelaide has been quick postage, elsewhere painfully slow (NSW, WA)

            • @Pimpiticians 4 Life: This week an express post letter took 10 days from Melbourne to Newcastle

Sat in Melbourne airport for a week doing nothing.

            • @Pimpiticians 4 Life: Contact them. Because they can be a little slow sometimes, even to pick up an item when you drop it off, they will issue you a full refund. I've received plenty of them :)

              • @graceyym: You mean AP refunds the postage cost ? How do you contact them? any link ?

                • @skjaus2015: Sorry I mean Sendle. They have a 2 day gaurantee with some areas, I think it might be for eBay postage but if its a day later, they refund the amount if you contact them.

I posted an item the other week & it took 3-4 days for them to pick up from the Sendle (Repco) Hub I dropped it off at, so they issued a full refund on that too.

                  • @graceyym: nope. Sendle left my item at their hub for 5 days without pickup.
They are very slow at responding to emails. No phone number.
I picked it up myself and sent by AP. Item delivery in 40 hours across Sydney. Pretty good actually.
Sendle haven't noticed yet, despite advising them what I have done.
What is the point of a guarantee if they dont even respond to emails?
They are still Fastway couriers i.e. Noway.
I thought maybe they may have improved. Never again. Don't be sucked in by their offer.

                    • @Weshouldgetsushi: They are quiet slow sometimes but they've always replied to my emails. Whenever I've had an issue with delivery times such as very late pick up they've fully refunded the cost of the delivery which has worked great in my case for orders that don't need to be delivered super fast.

                      • @graceyym: I sent 3 emails over several days and they acknowledged 1. I think the service on the Northern Beaches is the problem.

  • +2

Sendle currently takes (after your booking date) 3-4days to pickup the parcel.
I've booked in twice already for ebay packages, and although i book it in for Monday they never come until thursday. Very poor service, will be the last time i use them.

    • +1

Apparently you can drop them off at certain "Hubbed" locations (ie newsagencies) and the drivers will pick them up faster. I've had some problems using them before however sometimes I'm still forced to use them as they are competitively priced for larger sized parcels compared to Australia Post. Still prefer to use Australia Post where possible.

      • Yeah I prefer to drop off at Hubbed points as well but those idiots can still takes 2-3 days to pick up. Still faster than from my home though which may take up to a week.

The plus side is I always get my parcels sent for free, so I make sure the receipts are well aware of this possible delay if they choose go cheap.

      • Sent one on sendle today.. dropped it off at 3pm and it's been picked up around an hour later . So far so good

      • yes but they have to actually respond to your request before a refund will occur.

    • +1

@Iplau I think it depends on the person working your area. I have the same Couriers Please guy working my area and he's 99% on time over the last 3 years. I have heard of people in other areas reporting occasional pick up issues with the same company.
@Ziggy28 An EBay computer store told me they no longer use Aust Post this year because they tend to lose parcels this year to eastern states addresses, and was no help recovering them, each loss stuffed up their profit for that week. Their store now use courier companies only.

  • +1

Sendle are terrible and gumtree is for face to face only

  • I have never used this service before. I would like to ship some comfort items to a poor friend stuck down in Victoria. Do you think I can use this service to send the items for $1?

    • Yes, that's the idea of this deal.

      • +1

don't expect to get it delivered though.

        • If the service is really that terrible then how are they still in business. Fortunately, there is default compensation of $100. I'm not sending anything of high value, but if they screw up I will be expecting full reimbursement.

          • +1

@Windows7forever: They're just an agent for the couriers, and like any other time it just depends on the people working at both ends. Just as likely that a parcel contractor is no good in a certain area. If you happen to know that a particular courier is useless in your or your friend's area, and the Sendle label comes through as that courier when you create it (either Fastway or CouriersPlease), you can just cancel the label any time before pickup and you won't be charged. If nobody has specific issues with any couriers then it's a great way to get things shipped a bit faster (at least for me) and cheaper than post and saves a trip into the post office. There are other services that do similar things like Interparcel and some give more flexibility but usually not as cheap.

            • @ethan961: Thanks for explaining. For $1, I will take my chances. It sounds like it would not be feasible using the service to run an online business or even just to post things to people on ebay. Some shocking reviews.

              • @Windows7forever: One would think that looking at the reviews of any courier or AusPost to be honest, but they're all still used every day and only the people with problems tend to speak up. I'm about to list some things on eBay and I'll be listing most with Sendle; my experience has been good but I know my local couriers are fine. If things were of particularly high value there would be additional value in using AusPost as they offer the ability to purchase extra cover and have better support than the couriers. It appears that Interparcel also offers extra cover though if you wanted a courier+cover option. Sendle used to offer standard $300 cover but that got brought down to $100 in line with AusPost.

              • +1

@Windows7forever: Couriers and telcos, you will not see any good review on anyone of them. The exception is Pack and Send, but they are new. Given enough time, there bound to be complain

          • @Windows7forever: Hope they answer your emails.
But I'm sure your experience will be different at a hubbed pickup.

  • +1

LOL @ all the gumtree scam posts

I've sent a lot of stuff to people on gumtree

Video game consoles, power tools etc. and I've never had a problem

If you're feeling scared you can use Paypal business to invoice via email and you're covered although I've used Paypal directly through Gumtree many times even though it's not technically covered

    https://www.paypal.com/au/brc/article/paypal-seller-protecti…

This is a good deal if you have something you want to ship especially if it's a large 30kg item to a regional area on the other side of the country :)

EDIT: I Just noticed only up to 5KG 20L Is covered in the terms & conditions

  • The promo link appears to be broken or removed now. Regardless, I was able to sign up using the promo link but when I fill in all the details for the pickup it is showing full price. Does anyone know what to do to discount it to $1?
The Tc&Cs did mention that this offer is only available to the "first 1000 orders" so they have probably exhausted this allocation already :(

    • It should be automatic. If it does not work anymore, I will mark this deal expired.
Edit: I have just tested and it's still working, it came up with this message:
To claim your $1 shipping offer, please add a credit card to your account.
Once you've added a credit card, you'll see the discounted $1 shipping applied to your order.

      • Thanks, that worked for me this time. Maybe you could amend the instructions in the OP to mentioned that you must add credit card details to your account prior to starting your first order, for the $1 promo to be visible :)

        • Good idea.

  • +1

Cheers OP will give it a go

  • I sent my first sendle parcel today. Arranged for a drop off to a local collection point (Repco) as I thought it may be faster than waiting for a courier to pickup from my house. The workers were clueless but the manager seemed to know about this Sendle arrangement. They did not sign or scan anything into their system. Told me that the courier (Fastway) will scan it in when they receive the package. Hopefully there won't be any hiccups.

    • +1

Interesting. Whenever I drop off at a local newsagent hub, they scan the package.

    • +1

Same here, I dropped off a parcel at a Repco location before, they promptly scanned it.

      • +1

Oh really? I will go back there today and recall the package if they don't know what they are doing. I can see it getting lost/stolen otherwise :(

        • +1

Yes it's important that you see it getting scanned. When it gets scanned it will show up on your tracking page as "dropped off" and alert the driver to come pick it up. Without scanning how would the driver know it's there? Also if it goes missing or something at least there's tracking to show proof it was dropped off.

    • Did the same today and the guy didn't scan it either.. but I can see on tracking it's been picked up and is on its way

  • Only ever bought something on gumtree and had it posted to me once. The seller gave me the wrong account details and I didn't realize the money got returned. They also didn't send it until over a month later when I realized it still hadn't turned up and I contacted them. Paid to the correct account number this time (and their price was now higher!) but meh in the end I managed to get the book I wanted and it was still much much cheaper than anywhere else (I could only find a few copies in the UK for sale and they wanted ridiculous amounts for postage)

  • +1

Dropped off a parcel at my local newsagency 2 weeks ago. Noticed the parcel has not been picked up. After a handful of emails today they apologised and advised my local new agency is not a drop off. I asked them to arrange a pick up but they told me I needed to cancel the order and create a new order. I took the item straight to auspost and left them reviews on google, productreview and trust pilot. I would stay away from this dodgy courier.

    • After a handful of emails today they apologised and advised my local new agency is not a drop off

Then why did the news agency accept it?

    • Man, that sucks. Hope you get your money back.

  • If you use Sendle do you have to provide your own packaging and print your own postage label?

    • Yes. If you want full service (packing and all, costing more of course), use Pack and Send.

  • After a slow and shaky start my package was finally delivered to regional Victoria. I don't know if i'd be very confident using this service again. I think it is only worth $1.

  • Damn just signed up and found they don't deliver to Parcel Lockers.

Looks like they put me on the Premium plan? Just to confirm there is no monthly fee to keep this active?

How would you change to the Standard plan?

    • No monthly fee at all.
