Corona really has doubled the prices of NAS. Bought my DS918+ (similar in functionality to DS920+) early 2019 for $594.

  • Ahhhh, might want to check the amount in the title chief.

  • Everything is wrong with this post.. price is wrong, and this is the DS920+

  • Soz guys . Did it on iphone and fat finger typos lol

It has always been at this price not cheap at all. Cheaper or same price at all these places OP. NO bargain.

Why I am poor? Whyy…these NAS are soo expensive. I have booked my kidney for something else so can’t use that either:(

  • I just built a Ryzen 3 based system with 16GB of RAM and room for 8+ hard drives for ~$750 and could have done it even cheaper.

Have never used Synology's famously easy software, but anything easier than OpenMediaVault is surely venturing well the realm of diminishing returns.

Of course nas hardware will be more expensive than pc hardware for equivalent performance.

Nas prioritises reliability, the ability to run for months on end, low power use, low noise and vibration and a small footprint. Plus the specialised software.

Saying that pc hardware performs better at the same cost ignores the fact that it is almost always worse at all of those other things, unless you spend a lot of money.
