Dewalt DCF887P1-XE Combo $229 @ Bunnings & Sydney Tools

160

Bunnings and Sydney tools both have the DCF887P1-XE combo for $229 which include brushless impact, 5ah battery and multi charger. This is very good value and worth it if anyone needs this impact driver.

Break down of individual cost.

Brushless impact driver DCF887 skin $269.
5ah battery $149.
Multi charger $159.

Looks like a promo pack deal and won't come back once gone I suspect.

For anyone wondering what a DCF887P1-XE is. Impact driver, battery and charger kit.

      • Got one of these in the Hammer Drill, Driver combo - very impressed with this driver and battery. Would buy another in an instant.

Was concerned about only a single battery, but unless you're a tradie, for home use, this thing will go all day no sweat.

    • Brushless added to description. Ta.

  • Nice. They used to offer this with the drill for $299 (same pack).

    • And it went on special fairly regularly - I got the combo with the drill for $279. It doesn't feel like $229 without the drill is such a bargain.

    • correct, i got mine for 279 with the drill.

not quite the same. the black friday deals come with a 6Ah flexvolt battery. I personally prefer this deal.

      • +1

You prefer a non flexvolt battery? And no hammer drill?

        Confused.

      • I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

This deal comes with a 5ah battery, without the drill, for $229.
The combo I referred to above came with a 6ah flex volt battery and the drill for $279.

Are you saying that the deal with the smaller battery and without the drill is better? That is isn't worth $50 to get the bigger flex volt battery and the drill?

  • Ahh this would be great but I have 2 batteries and a charger already.

    • Too many batteries is never enough.

    • Sounds like you're well equipped to use this driver!

  • New to this world, what is the difference between this and this set? https://www.amazon.com.au/DEWALT-DCK278C2-Lithium-Ion-Brushl…

    • +1

I wouldn't buy any dewalt machines from Amazon US as it won't cover warranty in Australia.

Buy DeWalt products thru DeWalt resellers.

    • Also, smaller batteries, not flexvolt, only 20v max charger.

      Skins are the same though.

That's the new 'atomic' range impact driver.

It's a bit more compact, but has a bit less power (about a hundred less in-lbs), drives a bit more slowly (couple hundred less rpm) and you don't get the three torque settings (which is an auto pass for me).

  • Anyone used this / other impact drivers with a socket adaptor to work on cars?
Tossing between this or a impact wrench, can't imagine many bolts being tighter than 205nm

    • +1

I wouldn't. my similarly specced, but cheaper brand one is fine for doing the bulk work and getting them initially tight (for torquing later), but absolutely wouldn't expect this to crack most nuts, get the proper ones with the 1/2 inch drive and 400Nm+ torque, if that's what you intend to use it for, at 200Nm this will NOT replace air tools or a proper 1/2" drive battery unit. 200Nm isn't much when it comes to removing nuts on cars…
Edit: but big price jump @ $769 kit

      Edit2: this isn't too bad @ $369, skin;

      • Thanks! Was just basing it off the idea that the majority of bolts would at manufacturer torque specs, since most torque wrenches end at 200nm.
Guess you would need it most for seized/rusted bolts or suspension bits.

        • +1

Certainly in Aus where corrosion is not really an issue it will work fine with suspension parts. Have used them personally on several cars and with various models of DeWalt driver/wrench. See my comment below.

Wheelnuts though will vary. If torqued correctly then no issue but many are done way too tight and get corroded etc. A higher spec device (the $449 version) or a breaker bar/pipe combo might be the only answer there.

You'll struggle with this on things like crank pulleys or hub retaining nuts. Normal suspension fittings will be fine though, as will most other bolts on a car etc. If unsure buy this one and see how you go as to date I've had no issue with the adaptors despite my initial misgivings. Extra length due to the adaptor can be an issue but can also be a virtue depending on the actual job and access etc. Personally I tend to use the 1/2" wrench with deep sockets if I need a bit more clearance top get the tool in.

No matter what, always try to use impact sockets, even with a breaker bar as they are far less prone to rounding off nut/bolt heads.

        • +1

Interesting to hear above can do suspension, my cheapo that is probably outputting 1/2 it's listed output, fails on small bolts… plus the actual hammer machanism in the quality brands might make a big difference (the bunnings 3 setting dewalt is ~400Nm but says "Up to 813Nm of "breakaway" torque for stubborn bolts."

I have pre-brushless version of both DeWalt tools and the dedicated 1/2" version is noticeably stronger but to be honest when undoing large nuts/bolts or wheel nuts I tend to use a breaker bar, it just feels better…

I always use impact sockets. I only bought the 1/2" wrench version as I was unsure about the longevity of the adaptors and also it's much shorter when combined with the same socket - no adaptor.

Both are fine for 95% of things though and I would imagine that the brushless impact driver would match the non-brushless 1/2 wrench I have. Neither have given any issues and the batteries last for ages between charges. It's tools like angle grinders that eat batteries in just a few mins.

FYI - I also have the XR 14.4V drill and impact wrench kit from Masters. It's easy to modify them to take the 18V battery and that wrench works fine too. If doing a suspension job etc I tend to use all three and just use different sockets on each. No issues running on 18V BTW. They just go faster!

      • Great insight, thanks for the comparison, shame these are out of stock :(
Another reason I was leaning towards the impact driver being it'd be handy around the house for what regular drills/drivers can't do.

  • I can't find it on Sydney Tools as mentioned in the description?

    Anyone got a link?

    • Both were there this morning but now, both disappeared.

    • Sydney Tools have said that they're a promo item and are only able to sell from next Friday. I just picked one up from bunning though. They seem to still have plenty in stock.

  • still in stock at multiple bunnings, check local stores for stock. Castle hill nsw has about 30 in tool shop.

    • I just called and ordered one from Maribyrnong VIC store. I think they still had 8 in stock.

      • But you can't go and buy instore in any Victoria stores during Stage 4 restriction, could you?

        • Ordered over the phone for click and collect.

  • Also sydney tools shops also have this in stock depending on stores, store stock only.

  • Picked up 3 of these for the boss last week With the 5% trade discount.

We put 4 of the older models through hell and they keep on chugging with the exception of one that decided to start working sporadically. They don't like being used with a speedbore or spade bit.

Ill be happy if we get 2 years out of the new ones.

  • This kit is the feature for the up coming yellow and black day 28th Aug. I hope there's more then just this.
